Liz Cole was born and raised in a small town in upstate New York. Her love of romance—the steamier the better—began in her early teens, but it wasn’t until she left her job as a secretary to dedicate herself to being a stay-at-home mom to her to young children that her writing career began. It started with a story rolling around in her head which refused to be ignored. Desperate to turn her mind to other things, Liz sat down, hoping to exorcise the ‘demon’, and wrote her first novel. Since then, she has been plagued with other stories demanding to be told. Who knew that two jobs could be so fulfilling?
She now lives in North Carolina with her husband, two children, two cats, and three dogs.

Review
This is a lovely little romance about two kind people, a wrong bed, and falling in love. The heroine's parents' story make her a bit untrusting and there is a bit of blackmail to make for some action in the plot outside of the hero's pursuit of the heroine. If you like plain spinsters, wrong beds, and spice, you should enjoy this historical read!
Only in Regency England could a 26 year old woman be called a spinster and be considered "on the shelf" by those who managed England's marriage mart. Having had only one season and spent party after party gracing the wall as an invisible person, Prudence has made her choice to wear frumpy clothes that are too big for her, wear her gorgeous hair in a severe, uncomplimentary style, keep her attentions to herself and spend her days visiting museums and reading books of note. She is an orphan but the daughter of a baron, so Lady Prudence is certainly accepted in the ton even though she has chosen to remain invisible and hidden. She is now living in the home of her second cousin, the Countess whose step-son is now the present Earl. She enjoys the Countess and her other cousin Amanda, married to a viscount and mother of a beautiful son. Their summer journey to Bath has taken a surprising turn: Amanda has reason to return early to London, leaving Prudence and the Earl to return together several days later. It was the night that Amanda was gone, Pru was sleeping peacefully and, for the first time ever, sleeping nude because of the summer heat, when the Earl--several "sheets to the wind"--enters her chamber, disrobes completely, climbs naked into her bed, and makes love to her, thinking she is his mistress. Boy he really was drunk!! Now what is a spinster to do? Exactly what Pru decided to do: go along and make a memory. The upshot? Pru is no longer a virgin, and the Earl is "caught on the point of his own petard--he realizes his fateful error, knows what he has done to Pru, determines to do right by her, and is given the "set-down" of his life.
This is where the tongue-in-cheek kind of humor that I love in Regency romances comes to the fore. Kolton, Lord Ravensbrook, is not to be thwarted and he begins to see an intelligent, thinking, strong-minded, clear-headed, witty woman behind the dowdy gowns and awful hairdo. Never thinking love is necessary, he nevertheless begins to realize that he wants to be very good friends with this woman and that they can make a very good marriage together, so he sets about to seduce her in the only way he knows how: continuing to compromise her to the degree that she will agree to his suit. Their experience in his hunting cabin is simply delightful--the witticisms, the verbal sparring, the hot loving, her awareness that this is indeed the man about whom she has cherished a secret crush all these years, his growing awareness of her inner beauty and his determination to get her to see herself as she really is--all this and more make this a compelling read that will hold the interest of just about any historical romance fan.
Prudence is indeed a caterpiller who becomes a butterfly, and the amazement of the ton as they become aware that this incomparable beauty was right there under their noses from the first is wonderful to experience. But there is evil afoot and just when it appears that Pru and Kolton are home free--their life is just about to begin in the best way possible, danger and evil do their worst and a crisis intervenes in their happiness. While this may seem like a classic Regency and perhaps it is, yet there is the sense that one is not just re-reading an old formula and all will be well. Ms Cole teases this situation out in such a way that the reader absolutely must read on in order to resolve the crisis. And, indeed, it is resolved but in unexpected ways that keep the narrative and story fresh and interesting. I don't think historical romance readers will want to miss this book. It is one of those stories I was so pleased to have been given the chance to read. I think you will like it, too.
I give it a rating of 4.5 out of 5.

I’m a spoiler. Not because I want to discourage/encourage anyone in reading this book. I just want to write the highlights for me to remember by in the future. (There are really instances when I forgot about the story and I don’t want to waste my time in re-reading books that have bad plots.)
1 star not because I really do not like the book. It's just i felt that everything was rushed. The sex scenes were described well (plus the quantity of the scenes) compared to the more important parts of the story like ahmmmmm the build up of the scenes (not the bed scenes), the challenges the characters faced. something like that.
i like this type of plot where there was a mistaken identity. the characters in this book were engaging in fairness and i was curious about the secondary casts. it's just that i felt like the book was written in a hurry. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
With a lovely mix of a good story, likeable hero and heroine and spicy passion, PERSUADING PRUDENCE by Liz Cole was a really pleasant surprise!
Following her parents' death, Lady Prudence (Pru) Mayville has lived with her cousin Victoria, the second Countess Ravensbrook, in the Stanville household since she was six years old. At the age of twenty-six, she's happy to be a confirmed spinster and all efforts by Victoria and her step-daughter, Amanda, to dissuade Pru from wearing drab clothes and choosing such a severe hair style fall on deaf ears.
However, Pru's life takes a dramatic turn when Victoria's stepson Kolton, Earl of Ravensbrook, accidentally stumbles into her bedroom drunk one night and proceeds to make love to her, mistaking Pru for his latest mistress. Pru knows she should stop him but is unable to resist the chance of experiencing the joys of lovemaking in the arms of the man she has fantasized about all these years.
The next morning, Kolton quickly discovers the truth about the identity of the woman he slept with. Conscious of Pru's reputation and the fact that she might already be carrying his child, he asks her to marry him but is not prepared for her adamant refusal of his proposal:
Kolton fell back in his seat incredulous. Not marry him? He was an earl! And one, he might add, with a high social standing, an impressive fortune, and powerful friends! Was she daft? He'd been fighting off title-seeking, money-hungry women, and marriage-minded mammas for years and she says no when he finally breaks down and proposes?
She's even come up with some plan so he can avoid marrying her!
Not a man to give up lightly, he resorts to kidnapping Pru and taking her to an isolated cottage, leaving her in no doubt as to how he means to obtain her agreement to his marriage proposal:
"I intend to do it the old fashioned way, by swiving you until you are enceinte. The way I see it, taking the if out of the equation is usually persuasive in matters such as these."
But Kolton is about to get the surprise of his life when he discovers that, under that dowdy exterior, is a beautiful, vivacious, witty and passionate woman. She is everything he could ever want in a woman but persuading Pru will not be easy. However, Kolton is not a man to give up easily but a family secret, jealousy and blackmail threaten to keep him from his heart's desire.
I really enjoyed this book and liked Ms Cole's different take on the beautiful woman hiding beneath the dowdy spinster disguise. Usually it's because the heroine has some terrible past secret to hide but Pru's desire to conceal her light under a bushel is for a far different reason. When that reason is revealed, I feel Pru's anxieties about her body and her reluctance to marry are both very understandable. I can fully appreciate why she finds it difficult to accept that Kolton sees her as a beautiful and desirable woman:
Kolton frowned. "I do not give false compliments, nor do I need to do so. Look at yourself, Pru." He turned her to face the full-length mirror standing in the corner, and gently guided her to stand in front of it. "You're beautiful."
Prudence snorted indelicately. "My hair is too dark, my breasts and hips are too large, and I am short. What is breathtaking' about that might I inquire?"
She has real fears that if Kolton marries her simply out of a sense of duty, he would grow to resent her and eventually find solace with another woman, bringing her only heartbreak.
Pru has poise, intelligence and a sarcastic wit, all qualities which Kolton finds attractive. I like the way she's not afraid to stand up to Kolton for instance when he first proposes they marry:
"Pru, I cannot find the words to express how deeply I regret my behavior. Being inebriated is no excuse for what I did to you. But I will make it right. We will marry right away and -"
"No."
"Pardon? Did you just say no?"
"That is exactly what I said," she stated calmly. "I am not pregnant, and I will not marry you."
Kolton is the perfect hero, sexy, honest, trustworthy, tender and romantic. I admire the fact that he wants his marriage to be successful and has every intention of honoring his marriage vows and, as proof of this, he breaks completely with his current mistress. His view that children need both parents to provide them with a sense of stability and self-assurance certainly would have gone against the traditional thinking of the time. When he formally asks Pru to marry him and gives her an exquisite pearl engagement ring, it is obvious he has taken a lot of trouble to make it a truly romantic moment for her.
The scene where Kolton and his brother, Victor, see an elegantly dressed Pru for the first time is particularly memorable:
Kolton shut his jaw with a click and shook himself out of his lustful daze. He tore his eyes away from the vision in the doorway and glanced at his younger brother. Victor was staring unblinkingly at Prudence, as if she had cast a spell over him as well, his mouth still hanging open. Kolton frowned and nudged him none too gently in the side.
I can just imagine the two men standing there with their mouths open, positively drooling!!
Ms Cole's love scenes are certainly red-hot, but what I especially like is the exchanges between Pru and Kolton which certainly succeed in heightening the sexual tension between them. For example, in the cottage scene, while Pru is railing at him - Pru raised her head, her ocean blue eyes shooting sparks of indignation. "Why, you pompous, bloody ass-" Kolton is noticing all sorts of delectable things about her - Why had he not noticed how nicely shaped and full her breasts were until now?
The plot moves at a good pace with a few twists to delay their happy ending. The identity of the blackmailer isn't hard to guess but it certainly didn't spoil the story for me.
If you enjoy a well-written story with an engaging hero and heroine and plenty of sizzling love scenes, I'm sure PERSUADING PRUDENCE will be exactly what you're looking for!
I love emergency romances but was so disappointed that this was just a blatant pseudo-porn attempt that wasn't even very well done. The characters were charming and the story could have been great with a little more effort at world and character building and without the endless pages of sex scenes that left much to be desired. This was disappointing to say the least.
Didn’t care much about the rather cliche’ shotgun marriage plot but I stayed for the incredulous plot and the steam for the sake of a light entertainment! Just wish Prudence wouldn’t be so stupid as making that rash, impulsive decision towards the end.
Light but fun. Nothing much really happens and I think that lack of histrionics and melodrama is what made me like the story so much. There's a bit at the end that tries to insert some drama, but pretty much all the "good" guys turn up on the "villain's" doorstep, ask why they're playing silly buggers, convince them to withdraw gracefully to the continent, then Prudence and Kolton have a HEA.
One thing I did note as unusual, not bad unusual, more like "why does nobody else write like this?" unusual, was the sex scenes. There were quite a lot of them for such a short novel, but in every single one both characters seem to be exuberantly enjoying themselves. Usually I've found the woman will rise to the heavens, fall off a cliff, shatter in to a thousand stars and divine the secrets of the universe when she orgasms, but the guys will have a final thrust, hold still for a bit, then roll off with little to no show of emotion. I tend to skim sex scenes to pick out any dialogue because there's only so many ways inserting tab A in to slot B can be interestingly described and I read most of them a long time ago, but it was surprisingly sweet to see both characters be overwhelmed by their demonstrations of physical love. I think it really showed the difference between making love and just having sex.
I bought this book for the pretty cover. Shallow, yes. But what was between the covers was a pleasant surprise. A steamy, funny, historical romance. This book may have the two nicest leads ever! Prudence and Kolton are both sensitive, sweet, and loyal. Prudence is such a strong woman who does not let the wrongs she's witnessed in her past define her. These characters were so warm and loving at times I thought I needed an insulin shot. I really can't think of any imperfections in them. Usually I like tortured characters who go through a dynamic change, but this book was a nice change of pace. Even though there were no hidden secrets or agendas, the characters were still interesting and I cared about them. There were no major baddies, just a little conflict at the end. Basically a bodice ripping fairy tale. This book isn't breaking any new ground, but it was a pleasant read. A bodice ripping beach read. ;)
A beautifully written historical romance and one I enjoyed greatly seeing I hadn't read a historical for a while. Delightful characters that seemed so real, an intelligent heroine who knew her way around her own heart and was comfortable (well, almost) in her own skin, and a hero who was a man of honor and a surprising determination to do the right thing. That his "thing" turned into an unsought-for romance and brought alive feelings he was surprised to find he welcomed, was just a wonderful eventuality in a story that brought all the grace that historicals often contain, and all the wonderful, non-essential, life-defying aspects of life among the rich and flighty. Liz Cole is a very good writer and she has used her considerable skill to tell a gentle but compelling story. A very, very nice read.
Kolton is the womanizer that not even Prudence can resist. A marriage with love is the only way Prudence will marry, but being a twenty-six year old spinster doesn't sound very attractive to men. One night, she sees the chance of feeling the love that she might never get. Will she go ahead and take the chance? What would be the consequences?
Persuading Prudence is a lovely story between two people that never loved and believe they never will. It was an enjoyable read, but sometimes predictable. I believe the easy way out is what makes it a book without surprises or shocking twists. Overall it's a sexy read focusing on the protagonist’s feelings, a nice title to read before going to bed.
Persuading Prudence was a fun historical read that kept me interested through to the last page. What began with a mistaken identity, ended up as a beautiful love story. Prudence was a quiet, shy, unassuming woman, convinced she would remain a spinster. She always had an interest in Lord Ravensbrook, but never felt quite up to his caliber.
Mistaken identity led to a night of passion for both. Once he realized what happened, he wanted to do the 'right' thing, but Prudence would have nothing of it. She was certainly trying to play hard to get!
It gets a four diva rating from me. It was well written with strong characters, fun to read. Heat factor? Flame. The scenes were vivid and well done
Being totally sotted on night, Kolton mistakes Prudence's room for his and sleeps with her taking her virginity. Prudence decides to pretend nothing happened to avoid marrying Kolton out of obligation. Kolton remembers what happened and realizes that even though Prudence has lived with his family since her parents died when she was six, he doesn't know her at all. He does everything in his power to force her to marry him but she continues to refuse. Who will get their way? I liked Prudence. She was feisty and wanted to married for love and be loved in return. Kolton is an alpha but is willing to listen and learn what Prudence wants. This was an enjoyable story, perfect for a summer afternoon.
A lovely read. I loved Pru. Her character was so well written most of us could relate to her. Pru has some issues she has not shared with anyone. Kolton doesn’t even know and doesn’t understand why she feels she can not marry him or the way she feels about herself. He tries to make her believe she is pretty and wonderful. If only Kolton knew the truth. Will it change his mind or will he continue to make Pru see the truth about herself?
I loved all the characters even the villain of the story. Liz does a wonderful job with them and with the love scenes. It will heat you up. I read this in one sitting as I did not want to put the book down and I think you will feel the same way.
Prudence is an ugly duckling spinster who decides to indulge herself in one little thing during a very hot night. Kolton stumbles into the wrong room after a night of drinking. What could happen? Prudence decides to take this delicious opportunity to find out what the fuss is all about being with a man. It ends up with Kolton having to chase and persuade Prudence into marry him after their one night together. However, the truth about Prudence’s family past jeopardizes her future. I love this storyline, but at times it seemed predictable. This why I left out the fifth star.
Pursuading Prudence was a cute and heated story about Prudence. Prudence is a girl who has a past tainted by her father's rejection of her mother. Prudence intentionally avoided becoming involved with any man because she believes that nobody can care for her because her father could not love her mother. By chance, Prudence finds herself embroiled in plot to force her hand in marriage to the one man that she has ever had feelings for. Prudence was an intriguing character and she wraps you into a fairy tale where you can only wish that you played the leading role.
I waffled between 2.5 and 3 stars on this one. It had a promising beginning with an insecure spinster, but instead of being plain and chubby she's actually gorgeous and just has some curves. The sex was steamy. It was also 75% of the story. I liked it well enough but would have preferred if there was more focus on angst and building up of the relationship between the characters, instead of just a non-stop sexathon.
This was a very engaging story. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars was because the author could have shown more emotion when Pru decides she must leave and when Kolton finds out she's left. Also there were several missing words throughout the story. Even with those, it was well worth reading and I would recommend it to other readers.
I was totally bummed because I ordered this book for my Kindle and I've tried, repeatedly, to download it and it simply won't download! I really wanted to read this book. I keep trying to re-purchase the book and the site won't let me. :(
Even with the rocky start, I pushed through believing it could get better. Unfortunately, it did not. The story was terrible repetitive and quite frankly, boring.
