Lilac lives on a Welsh hillside with her very patient husband and incredibly sweet dog, where she grows veggies (if the slugs don't get them), bakes (badly) and loves making things out of glitter and glue (a mess, usually).

She's been an avid reader ever since she got her hands on a copy of Noddy Goes to Toytown when she was five, and she once tried to read everything in her local library starting with A and working her way through the alphabet.

She loves long, hot summer days in the garden, and cold winter ones snuggled in front of the fire, but whatever the weather she's usually writing, or thinking about writing, with heartwarming romance and happy-ever-afters always on her mind.

This sweet, but, a little predictable story was an easy read. From the first chapter you can guess how it’s going to turn out which is fine as it’s such a lovely story. I’m interested in reading another in this series which I hope won’t be too long in coming. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This book perfectly fits the cozy romance genre. I was seeking for a quick read and the cover of this book caught my eye. Nothing let me down. A delightful and heartwarming love story set in the picturesque village of Foxmore.

The story follows Rowena, a single mother of Nia, age four (nearly five! ), who resides in the charming Welsh town of Foxmore. Rowena and Huw, the new guy in town, are the subject of the book's love tale, which is not your typical romance. It also emphasizes the affection of her close group and, above all, the love of a mother for her daughter.

The characters and how they interacted were likable and entertaining to me. There were a few hot moments, but not enough to overshadow the story's appeal. As a reader, you can actually sense the chemistry between Rowena and Hue, and the narrative itself was interesting.

Another significant plot point in the book emphasized how crucial it is to avoid single-use plastics anytime available. I'm all for sustainable, environmentally friendly activities, but this book is rather "preachy" about it; I think some people may find it to be too much, while others may find it to be acceptable. But in my opinion, it goes into way too much detail.

The book was enjoyable to read all around. Even though I knew how it would end, I still smiled. I am really excited for the series' second book.

The book is scheduled to be released on January 19, 2023! If you enjoy cozy romances, please add this book to your list right now :).

I received a free early copy of the book from Canelo and NetGalley; this review is my voluntary and uninfluenced opinion.

“The Corner Shop on Foxmore Green” is a delightful tale that seamlessly weaves together themes of community, sustainability, and love. Single mom Rowena’s journey from discovering a zero waste store to opening one in her own hometown of Foxmore is both inspiring and heartwarming.
The small-town setting adds a charming backdrop to the budding romance between the lead character and the new guy in town, whose chemistry sizzles on the pages.
I enjoyed this small town romance.
With its feel-good atmosphere and satisfying conclusion, this book is a must-read for anyone seeking a cozy escape into the world of love and community.
Thankyou to Author Lilac Mills, Canelo Romance and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

A lovely read. I liked the slow steady development of Huw and Rowena’s relationship and Nia was a great little character. I enjoyed finding out all about a zero waste shop and about co ops it was very eye opening and interesting. I found it a little unbelievable that Rowena and Huw hadn’t spoken about what job he did or that he didn’t ask sooner for more details on her shop idea as he knew he had information that could have been helpful, even without her going the co op route, but still, I guess when you’re in love and only manage one date a week there are far more important things to think about and spend on 😉.
I loved the small village community and how they all rallied round the shop and helped thwart the big chain store and in doing so rid Finn from her life. It left me with a smile at the end.

[2.5] some part of this book worked really well, and i was completely on board with them, like the narrative of rowena trying to open a zero-waste shop, and it’s challenges as I hadn’t really seen that in a romance book before. the actual romance itself, however, was where this book fell short for me, as it was extremely “insta-love-y” for me, accompanied by the most ridiculous misunderstandings between the fmc and the mmc - if they had just communicated like any logical person, half of the plot points wouldn’t exist 🫢

Lilacs books are like a hug in a mug. The first book of hers I read was The Cosy Travelling Christmas Shop which I adored and I've loved this one just as much.

Rowena is the sweetest of characters and little Nia made me smile so much and I love the idea of a zero waste shop, we have one in our town that is really popular.

I'm really looking forward to reading more of Lilacs books, if you've not read anything by Lilac, please pick one up.

Just lately, I've been reading a lot of cosy feel-good books, and it was the cover design and illustration that appealed to me when I saw this book. I was hoping it might be a cheerful little book that I could escape into.

I thought this book was charming. I could relate to the protagonist, Rowena, and there were lots of other characters that I warmed to as well. I found the characters and the way they interacted relatable and amusing, there were a few moments when I found myself chuckling.

When you read a romantic book, you find yourself hoping for chemistry between the characters, and there were a few spicy moments, but not so many that it distracted from the charm of the story, and at the end, I was smiling.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.

The Corner Shop on Foxmore Green is downright charming! My first from this talented author, I fell hard for both Rowena and Huw and their sweet romance. Not to mention scene-stealer daughter Nia and her 4 almost 5 cuteness! The story is crafted in a wonderful way as Rowena is a bit at a standstill in her life and Huw is the newcomer to Foxmore. Their lives collide almost immediately after Huw's arrival and already there are evident sparks between them. Mills keeps the crux of Huw's employment a bit of a secret and it's only towards the end of the book that it comes to light as Rowena embarks on a new venture, trying her hardest to open an eco-friendly grocer.

But before the surprising reveal to both of them, however, is the delicate dance they do as they start to spend time together and Huw becomes not only important to Rowena but to spunky Nia as well. Huw is all kinds of sigh-worthy as he enchants both mother and daughter with his clever outings and you could sense how he and Rowena were falling fast for one another. He even made me swoon with how much he craved her touch.

The enchanting village of Foxmore provides a great background with involved neighbors and friends who provide lighter moments and the support for the anxious Rowena when needed. The closeness of a village this size means everyone knows everything about everyone and it's certainly something Huw has to get used to.

With the sudden appearance of someone from Rowena's past throwing her for a loop, I wasn't sure things would work out for her and Huw but the miscommunication was actually kind of delightful and showed just how vulnerable each of them was.

With a great last chapter, I was thrilled that Huw and Rowena and even little Nia were able to find a happiness each no doubt deserved. It made my heart happy to experience the joy and satisfaction they received with even the smallest of victories.

The Corner Shop on Foxmore Green is a great read when looking for something a bit lighter between heavier reads. I would not hesitate to read this author again and happily give this well-written book a huge 4 stars!

This book is satisfying as we turn the pages. My very first book from this Author and I devoured each line in this book. After a long time I felt like I read the most lovely and extremely fabulous small town Romance story.

Rowena - She's a single mom who always makes sure her daughter comes first to her. Even though it was an accidental pregnancy she never once regretted that. She loved her daughter with her whole heart. One thing about her I loved so much is that she took an initiative which none took and that's something which made me adore her even more. In this entire book I found that the Author made sure to bring a strong female for us to read and enjoy. I actually clapped my hands when she gave the perfect reply to her Ex (Her daughter's biological dad) who goes by the name Finn. This woman is actually perfect with every move she makes.

Huw - I did admire him but he easily assumes the worst each time and pushes away Rowena. But I'm glad they both always sort out their misunderstandings. It was indeed nice to see him take care of Rowena's daughter and make a family with her.

Ceri - Huw's sister is also someone who will make you fall for her. I truly loved reading all the chapters she was in.

Nia - How can I be without mentioning her? The four ops! Almost five-year old daughter of Rowena, would make you laugh with her naughtiness. I felt like she was the one who kept me looking forward to the next chapter as well.

Lastly, this book made me laugh, get angry, adore sister and brother relationship, admire the friendship and also feel emotional. I would highly recommend this book to everyone who's looking for a short and cute story which is also realistic.

Thank you so much for the ARC of this enjoyable story @netgalley and @lilacmillsauthor

There is something about Lilac Mills' writing that is so comforting and warm to read, while also more recently clearly having a message about saving the planet - although with each book that larger topic is dealt with in completely different ways.

For Rowena is utterly fed up with thee amount of single use plastic that is in all of the shops in Foxmore, and with Nia, her fabulous four year old daughter now at school age she is starting to wonder whether she could get another job, that will fulfill her more than what she is currently doing part time.

And after encountering one in nearby Cardiff, she realises that what Foxmore really needs is a Zero Waste shop. With best friend Betsan, they attempt to make it a reality but nothing at all is smooth sailing.

Add in a handsome stranger that has just moved into the village, a series of hilarious misunderstandings later, and some potential romance, and you have many elements that make up a truly engaging book.

There are things referenced in the blurb for this book which don't happen until the last perhaps 25% or so, which surprised me as if I mentioned them in a review, then I would be accused of spoilers!

For me Nia was the star of this book, she was simply fabulous, and often had me giggling. I do love the things children come out with!

And the whole idea of a zero waste shop is certainly a good one, and if I lived within walking distance of such a shop I might be tempted to use one myself. They are a concept I wasn't overly familiar with before reading this but now understand a whole lot more.

A really pleasurable read that left me looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thank you to Canelo and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

🌄Lovely, small-town romance😍

I've never heard of a cozy romance genre but, if there is one, this novel would fit right in. Huw, the principal male character, falls in love with Foxmore (a small, friendly town in Wales), the cottage he's purchased and the residents. He's immediately drawn to single mother Rowena and her four year-old poppet Nia. There are a few major misunderstandings to provide some stumbles and starts to their relationship, but this is a warm, sweet romance backed by some drama over Rowena's dream of opening a zero waste shop for food and basic commodities.

I thought Rowena's ambition was laudable and when she and her friend Betsan "get on their proverbial soap box" (I found their delivery concerned, not strident) and describe the waste that goes into commercial packaging and single use plastics, I had to agree and wish her success. All her points are good ones and made me want to join in!

I totally enjoyed the story, as I have every one of the half dozen or so other Lilac Mills novels I've read. I think that with her recent plots involving reducing waste and damage to the environment she has struck an interesting, timely, chord. Solid, focused narration, likable characters (okay, there are a few stinkers for contrast!), and a relatable, focused plot.

Thanks to Canelo and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

The Corner Shop on Foxmore Green by Lilac Mills

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Canelo and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Can a new shop change the village’s future – and Rowena’s?

Single mum Rowena is always looking for ways for her and her four-year-old daughter, Nia, to live more sustainably. So, when she visits a zero-waste shop in Cardiff, she’s inspired to start one up in her own village, where local businesses and artisan shops are a core part of the community.

For Huw, it’s love at first sight when he bumps into Rowena, on the day he moves to Foxmore.  But a series of misunderstandings keeps the two from getting closer, and now a conflict of interest over Rowena’s shop might put a stop to any fledgling romance…

When a figure from Rowena’s past makes a surprise appearance, both her shop and relationship with Huw are suddenly under threat. Can Rowena still realise her corner shop dreams and find love?

My Opinion

This is the first book in a new series - and whilst it is relatively short it was a great introduction. I was drawn in by the cover and the fact that I have previously enjoyed books by Lilac Mills and I was pleased to discover that this is a lovely, heart-warming story. A charming, quick read with characters that I already can't wait to meet again.

This was an excellent light book to read over Christmas. I didn’t want anything too heavy, but I needed a story to keep me interested while so many distractions were going on around me. This was the perfect book for my needs!
We have the chemistry between Rowena and Huw sizzling right from the beginning, and when you think the book is going to get predictable, it will throw a curveball to keep you turning that page!
I wasn’t too keen on the whole zero waste side of things; I felt Rowena was a bit judgemental towards people who didn’t have the same values as her. It felt at times like I was being shamed or made to feel bad for my actions. I’m sure this wasn’t the case, and the character was just passionate about what she believed in, but it did feel a bit too heavy at times. (I’ve just read some of the other reviews that have been left and see I’m not alone in feeling this way about Rowena!)
Overall, the book was fun to read, and I liked that it all didn’t come easy to Rowena when trying to set up her shop. It didn’t all fall into her lap like it often does in books; instead, she had to work and overcome some difficulties, making the story a little more believable.
This author only does three books per series, so this is the start of something exciting, and I’m looking forward to the next two books set in Foxmore!

I was looking for something light to read, and was drawn to this book by the cover. I was not disappointed. This was a fun, quick, ligthearted read, easily finished in a single sitting.

The characters were believeable and relatable, and the book had enough romance to keep me happy, but not too much that it lost the plot entirely.

Lilac Mills has been one of my favorite authors and so I make sure to read each and every single one of her books. This book is the first of the Foxmore village series with Rowena and Huw as the main characters in the book.

Rowena is a single mother of a four-year-old. When she visits a shop in Cardiff, she gets an idea to open a similar type of shop in her home village Foxmore. Huw moves to Foxmore. The two then meet and what initially happened as a misunderstanding turns into a romance. The story also shows how Rowena is struggling to open up her shop while developing a romantic relationship with Huw.

I actually enjoyed reading this story. The beginning part was really funny as i laughed out at some parts. The chemistry between Rowena and Hue, you can actually feel it as a reader and the story itself was engaging. Though the ending was predictable with a Happily Ever After theme, I actually enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for the second book of the series. Worth four stars!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

The Corner Shop on Foxmore Green is Book 1 in the Foxmore Village series by author Lilac Mills. A charming and feel good romance set in the lovely village of Foxmore.

Rowena a single mom to Nia, her four year old daughter, is always looking to live more sustainably. After visiting a zero-waste shop in Cardiff with her best friend Betson, she’s inspired to start one of her own in the village of Foxmore, where local businesses are a core part of the community.

It’s love at first sight when Huw bumps into Rowena the day he moves to Foxmore. A series of misunderstanding keeps them from getting closer and a new conflict of interest over Rowena’s shop might put a stop to their new romance.

Someone from Rowena’s past makes an unexpected appearance which threatens both her relationship with Huw and the dream of her shop. Can Rowena still realize her corner shop dreams and find love?

Lilac Mills writes such cozy romances set in lovely villages. I love the different types of shops she describes in her books. Another charming romance I highly recommend.

This book wasn't as good as I thought/hoped it would be. I found myself being turned off by Rowena early on and had trouble getting back on her side. I'm all for sustainable, more eco-friendly practices but I found her to be a little self-righteous. Especially when talking about other parents - sorry we can't all be as perfect as you, Row.. I also found her to be a quitter - as soon as things look like they might get difficult she immediately gives up. And that must have been contagious because Huw was pretty much the same towards the end. I couldn't believe he didn't even try to talk with her after the whole thing with Finn and then he broke up with her via text?!! Seriously, what is wrong with these people? It wasn't all bad, I did really like Huw's relationship with Nia - their scenes are so cute and sweet. I was also really glad that the whole misunderstanding between these two at the beginning (both thinking the other was married) was resolved quickly.

Rowena is single mum to daughter Nia. They live in a small Welsh village with limited shops, and when eco friendly Rowena visits a no waste store in Cardiff, she is determined to bring something similar to her local community. The story follows her as she faces opposition and battles with a big name supermarket. We also see Rowena's developing relationship with newcomer Huw - can they get past multiple amounts of miscommunication to be together?

I'll admit I found this book very "preachy" - far too much detail on recycling and what we should all be doing to save the planet, when we probably all know! Rowena became instantly unlikeable to me, and I struggled past the sections that were very over the top. Huw was also irritating, I just wanted them both to actually talk to each other, but they seemed incapable without other people's involvement! That said, Huw's interactions with little Nia were very sweet, and that made me warm to him.

With a heavy heart I rate this book 1 star and usually I love Lilac Mills books however this one was a complete miss for me.

I think the main issue I had with the book was that I was 50% of the way into the book and the conflict detailed in the blurb hadn't happened yet. I felt like the feelings, attraction and plot was way too rushed and moving so fast that I didn't enjoy it.

Rowena is a very basic character - eco warrior, mum and fancies Huw. Huw is even more basic and his whole personality of what I read is how much he fancies Rowena. The daughter Nia didn't read like a 4 year old to me.

I really wish the conflict had started around the 50% mark because I wanted to be engaged but the start was more just building the lives of Rowena and her daughter mainly which tbh is kinda boring like her idea for the shop arises there but nothing is done.

I would still recommend Lilac Mills just not this book.

As before, this book by Lilac Mills made me smile! What lovely tone of voice, interesting characters – some being quirky as Mrs. Moxley, and easily flowing dialogues – like the ones with Nia being a princess but not wanting to eat broccolli. Not to mention the descriptive setting of Foxmore making anyone yearn to go there.

Then there is the more serious theme of The Corner Shop on Foxmore Green and that is about reducing plastic waste. I'm so glad topics as these are part of the books that Mills writes, as it concerns all of us and it is not that hard to make just the tiniest of effort.

Ah, and as a knitter and spinner let me tell you I was intrigued by the sheep (and alpacas) that kept popping up in the background of this story. So yeah, I wouldn't mind knitting a pair of socks for the author as a bribe for her to consider doing a romantic knitting or farm novel :)

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.

Rowena is the single mom of a adorable 4 year old, Nia living in a small Welch town in Foxmore Green. After she became pregnant, she returned home and has settled in a small cottage her grandmother left her. When Rowena visits a zero-waste store in a nearby town, she has the idea she could possibly open one in Foxmore. Her best friend Betsan, encourages her.

Huw has often hiked in the nearby area but notices Foxmore through the trees on one of his hiking trips. He is enthralled with the little town and purchases a house knowing he can easily commute to work. He meets Rowena but a misunderstanding leads both of them to believe, each other is married.

Rowena tries to obtain a bank loan for her store but is rejected, however the bank manager suggests another option. With her friend's encouragement she decides she has nothing to lose if she doesn't at least try.

It's a cute story and the first one in the series.

The Corner Shop on Foxmore Green by Lilac Mills is an easy to read, feel good romance. Single mum Rowena and Huw meet soon after he moves to the village. It is attraction from the first glance on both their parts. Just when it looks as if romance is in the air obstacles come into play. From the beginning it seemed these two were destined to be together.

The storyline is interesting with a realistic approach to the problems faced by Rowena and Huw. I enjoyed getting to know Rowena’s young daughter, Nia. She added to the story quite a bit. It is a lighthearted romance with a balance between romance and life in the village.

An entertaining read for an afternoon.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Set in Foxmore Wales, Rowena Lloyd works as a lunchtime supervisor in a primary school 🏫 and has a four year old named Nia. Rowena is always look for ways to live sustainably. So when she visits a zero waste shop in Cardiff she’s inspired to open one in her village.

Huw Morgan has just moved to Foxmore having purchased a house called Rosehip Cottage earlier. On his first day in the village he runs into Rowena and falls for her.

But a series of misunderstandings and a conflict of interest over Rowena’s shop might stymie their fledgling romance. Are they willing to set their differences aside and work something out?

Thank you to Lilac Mills, NetGalley, and Canelo for the arc of this book.

This was a well thought out story, with great twists, some romance and a lovely conclusion.

Rowena is a single mother to four (almost five!) year old Nia, living in the picturesque town of Foxmore in Wales. The book tells the love story of Rowena and the new man in town Huw, but is not just a classic romance. It also highlights the love of her tight knit community and most of all, the love of a mother for her daughter.

Another important storyline within the book emphasised the importance of eliminating single use plastics wherever possible. This appealed to me and gave the story and more modern feel.

Thank you to Netgalley, author Lilac Mills and her publishing team for allowing me to read and review ahead of publication!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
I am a big fan of this author's books: sweet, clean romances always coupled with an interesting plot. I enjoyed the modern themes of this story (sustainability, individuality versus the big chains and new, varied ways of funding). Lilac's narrative style is superb; lots of picturesque, prosaic description sets the village scene and the characters are delightful with comical observations through thoughts and dialogue which are completely realistic. This is a pleasurable read and Lilac weaves the tale in such a way that it flows easily without the reader realising how engaging it is until the end when you suddenly realise you want more!

Enjoyable story about Rowena, single mother who is ready for the next phase of her life. She decides to look into opening a zero waste store in town. While knocking on doors with a petition to save the church, she meets new to town Huw and there is an instant attraction.

Great funny, interfering, and nosy neighbors. The small town is loaded with good natured people who just want to know everything and be in on it too.

This is an entertaining, easy-to-read story. It's definitely a book to read when you want to kick back and relax. Very enjoyable.

A clean cut, cute romance between a single mom and a lonely businessman who moves to the quaint town of Foxmore. Mistaken assumptions keep them apart, but then they get straightened out...or do they? It seems mistaken assumptions are determined to keep them apart unless they can get over themselves and start communicating better! A nosy and interfering town will keep everyone on their toes as no secrets can survive here, but can love survive? I really loved the characters and hope to get to visit Foxmore again in the future.
