Although I am not a fan of 3rd person - I loved that the FMC was not a push over. She was strong and stood for what she wanted - which was revenge. She was not going to let any man get in her way and that included the MMC. Their chemistry was great. He didn't want to stop her from getting what she wanted and he was willing to help in any way that he could. He also accepted her and didn't judge her choices for her life. It's a solid mafia read with layers of criminal activities.

Disappointing this one.
The authors succumbed to the annoying thing most are doing these days and choosing smut over plot or relationship building. Don't know if I even want to read the read of this series.
I just hated Alexei. He was gross and unlikeable to me. (Ignoring that he was blonde)There weres just some weird moments with him.
We kicked off with him whinging that Carina would never like him like everyone because he has a scar on his face to 5 seconds later him all over Carina as well as every woman they ran into wanting him... huh?
Carina and Alexei just had sex every 5 minutes. She went from an abusive arranged marriage claiming to not wanting to be owned again by a man to being owned by a man.
Alexei had too much power and disrespect for the family, considering he is just an enforcer (and not italian) it made no sense.
In any mafia family, will the sister of the don just be allowed to openly be getting it on with an enforcer again who isn't Italian. So dumb.
The repetition of Alexei smacking or squeezing her butt was annoying and eye rolling.
the underlying plot was interesting enough to give it a star or 2.
the brothers don't seem any more likeable, so it really hasn't peaked my interest in reading their stories. might have to wait a bit before I head back in.
hopefully, the author gets back on task and doesn't continue with smut over plot.

3.5 Spicy Peppers for this one too!
Meghan started this series off with some spice!!
Many of the books that I get into have cookie cutter characters - not Meghan's!!!
Carina, a Sicilian mafia princess sold into a marriage to a man much older than her (I believe older than her own father). She returns to her family home after her husband's death, shortly afterwards her father dies, and then all heck breaks loose!
See, Carina wants blood, she wants revenge for what was done to her, not only by the family she was sold into but also her own - and the only one willing to give it to her is Alexei. The hitman her father groomed from a young age. Of course, Carina and Alexei have chemistry and things get a but heated.....

Another winner
Meaghan Pierce has once again written a story that is believable, moving and so very entertaining. Her stories are well researched and paint a vivid picture. I highly recommend this series as much as her very first on about the Callaghan’s.

Meaghan Pierce never ceases to amaze me with her writing, her characters, and her storytelling. The Vows We Break introduces Carina, a Sicilian mafia princess sold into a marriage to a man 3 times her age, returning home after his death. Soon after, her father dies and things are out into a tailspin. Carina's brother returns home and finds out that there was more to the deal his father sold Carina away for. Carina wants blood and the only one willing to give it to her is Alexei. The hitman her father groomed from a young age. There's always been something there and we will find out if they finally act on it, and if so, will Carina get her revenge?

Another great read by Meaghan Pierce! I loved Alexei and Carina as individual characters and together in a well written mafia trope romance. Carina, the sole sister to three brothers coming into their own family roles and obligations fights through her trauma past paying for the sins of her family. As they find their footing as a family again, she finds a new solid foundation with Alexei, the right hand man supporting the family. Carina is ALL we could want in a main character - strong, independent, passionate and spunky. Loved loved loved this one Meaghan!!
