International bestselling author Annee Jones writes romance that ranges from sweet to scorching, sassy to dark, contemporary to fantastical. Perfect for your coffee break or midnight escape—quick reads for wild hearts.
Outside of writing, Annee works as a disability counselor where she helps her clients navigate through complex medical and legal systems while rediscovering their wholeness in Spirit. She loves practicing Barre, relaxing in the sauna, and staying up way too late reading.
Audrey may find herself being hunted and have to run....but sometimes unplanned journeys can have the most beautiful destinations. They both have darkness in their past, but here in California, now, they find the perfect future, together. A very sweet historical romance. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I give this story 5 stars with one caveat. The story is super short and when the ending came, I was not expecting it yet. Kinda felt like I was only getting half the story. The story felt like set up for the half we didn't get. There is a brief epilogue but the reader will enjoy the story more if they know that it is just the beginning of their love story. Basically, you get one chapter after they meet plus a two page epilogue. So there wasn't nearly the romance in it that I expected. I would have loved to see their life together.
That being said, the story is interesting. There is intrigue and Audrey's relationship with her friends is fun. I was annoyed that the cops weren't more forth coming in what they were thinking but that kind of gave the reader a surprise in the ending too.
So, if you don't have much reading time but want to read in just one sitting. And if you want some intrigue with just a little romance, this book might be perfect.

As one of many siblings, Audrey struck out on her own to find her place in the world. Living with a family for a year to earn money by helping with the children and household duties, her dream of reaching New York finally came to fruition. But would witnessing a murder upend all her dreams and plans? How would she ever feel safe again? A truly ingenious plot, once again shining the spotlight on the creative imagination of the author, a book to cherish!
This may be a short novella and a quick read, but it is a great story. Three young friends at the boarding house go in on a pair of shoes and a fancy dress to enjoy a night on the town.
They draw straws to see who wears it first. The first one has a great time. When the second one goes out she doesn't hear the music playing but she witnesses something she should not have.
It will keep you engrossed through out the book. A must read.
Audrey witnessed a murder and sets off a chain of actions. I liked the short story. I do wish there would have been more story between Thomas and Audrey. A very quick read about a young woman's journey.

Small decisions can make a big change in our lives. The question is, is the change for the better? Annee Jones gives us a look at the 1920s, a quick thinking heroine, good friends, several heroes and an interesting story.
I really liked the novella about Audrey Winthrop, a young lady who lived in New York in the 1920's. Audrey sets out one night to attend a party, but she never arrives. Instead, she is a witness to a murder. She decides to flee town in hopes that she will be safe if she does so. Even though this is a short read, it packs a punch and keeps the reader entertained.
Audrey's story is tense, dangerous, and uncertain. Being resourceful is a trait she finds out of desperation. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, but I have one question: What happened to the shoes? LOL
