Although I enjoyed listening to this, it's no Treasure Island. Part of Stevenson's magic is his timeless appeal, and unfortunately, Paine's writing felt quite dated by comparison. This contrast is particularly glaring when you consider that Stevenson's novel is significantly older than Paine's. However, it's a pirate book, and you can't go wrong wrapping up the summer with pirates.

For a book of its time, it was really entertaining. Because we have come so far in literature, it was a bit difficult to read. Mannerisms and phrases that are not used in today’s vocabulary and speaking style, but it was still fun.

Not bad a good adventure book easy read fairly entertaining. dated as you would expect obviously not written to live up to the PC standards of modern day. So not for the easily offended but definitely an entertaining read

Pretty good.

Writing had come a long way since the late 1800's when Treasure Island was written. This book was published in 1922, and the story was more engaging to me than TI.

The story is of young Jack Cockrell who is enticed by pirate ways by Captain Bonnett, a more ethical pirate then others, but is later disuaded in his desire for a-pirating after meeting up with scoundrel Blackbeard.

Lots of action, suspense and of course buried treasure!

I tagged this as no romance even though Jack is enamored by Dorothy. Nothing much at all comes of it. This miniscule bit of romance was never developed, just left off.

I felt the ending was a bit abrupt. It seems that was the style back in the day. It was kinda like.."and they found the treasure and lived happily ever after..the end." I guess I am just used to having a little more insight in books as to the long term results of the characters.

Anyhoo..It was very good, and I would recommend.

Got it for free on the Gutenberg Project website.
