Kingdom's Reign

Rate this book
An evil army masses against the Knights of the Prince, and they are outnumbered.
Only the King can save them…

While the Knights of the Prince train in the Kingdom Across the Sea, the Dark Knight, Lucius, reigns in Arrethtrae with complete authority. But when a small group of loyalists swears allegiance to the King, the Prince returns, and in a mighty battle, Lucius and the Shadow Warriors are vanquished and imprisoned in the Wasteland.

Peace and prosperity renew the land, and the Prince rules from the royal city of Chessington. While the heroic Cedric travels as ambassador, he sees that every corner of Arrethtrae reaps the benefits of prosperity brought to the land by the Prince’s reign.

But not everyone will swear allegiance to the King, and it seems this paradise may be lost yet again because of the pride and greed of evil men who plot to free the Dark Knight and his minions. Cedric rides desperately to bring the news before it’s too late…

Journey to Arrethtrae, where the King and His Son implement a bold plan to save their kingdom; where courage, faith, and loyalty stand tall in the face of opposition; where good will not bow to evil–where the King reigns…along with His Son!

Chuck is a former F-16 fighter pilot and currently works as an engineer for a firm designing plastic consumer products and has coinvented eleven patented construction products now being sold internationally. He has a degree in electrical and electronic engineering and served eight years in the United States Air Force. Chuck and his wife have six children and live in North Dakota.

The series concludes!

Characters:
Everyone from previous books makes an appearance for at least a paragraph or two, but Cedric is our main character.
He has faith and waiting, and I love him.
Talea is a side character. She's a little stiff, but I enjoy her overall. Though Keanna and Tess are my favorite female characters from the series.

Themes:
That God wins in the end... no matter how dark it gets, or hopeless it seems, or even how evil and crazy the world gets God wins. We needn't fear because we know He wins in the end.

Language:
N/A

Romance:
Just a little, very sweet.

Overall:
It's a great conclusion to the series. I'm not a hundred percent on board with the end times as they laid out in the book, but it is fiction and no one but God knows for certain how things will go down...which Chuck mentions in the note at the end and I admire that.
The book is a touch slower than the others but still rounds the series out nicely in the end.

This is my favorite of the last three books in this series. Four and Five are great, but Kingdom's Reign is awesome. Though I've read this series uncountable times, it is always bittersweet when I read the last page and close the book.

Cedric is my favorite character in this series. To have his story pick up again, and in such a marvelous allegorical story, makes me quite the happy reader. And Talea! (Yes, I am fangirling over a book intended for kids.) I love the way Chuck Black interweaves such a strong faith message into such compelling tales - and how all the multiple characters' stories eventually connect. The author is so clever in the names for towns and cities (Cameria = America, etc.), and as incredible as he is in writing protagonists, he's almost better at crafting antagonists. Lucius is one nasty dude, and his Shadow Warriors are equally heinous.

Kingdom's Reign takes a pre-millenial approach to the Rapture and Revelation, and is superbly crafted. As far as allegorical-writing authors go, Chuck Black is equal with C.S. Lewis.

The Kingdom Series is written for a younger audience, but can be enjoyed by those eight to one hundred. If you enjoy Christian fantasy with rich faith and delightful allegory, read this series.

Okay, so this one is a little slower than the others...but the ending is well worth the wait. Once everything starts rolling there at the end it moves pretty quickly. We love the series and have enjoyed them thoroughly! Would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a great book series to read or listen to, the Audible books are great!!!!

I initially disliked the allegorical writing style and simple character names, but have come to enjoy and find beauty in this series which has reminded me of the joy of serving the King.

Kingdom’s Reign is the final book in the Kingdom Series by Chuck Black. I couldn’t wait to read this book because I loved the entire series and was looking forward to finding out how the story finished. This series is by far the most enthralling series I have read to date and one of my favourites of all time! The author continued to maintain the momentum and values set out in Kingdom’s Dawn. I love the way that it represents loyalty and truthfulness. I particularly enjoyed the action sequences as they made me feel like I was on the side line watching two masters duel.

The story continues in the land of Arrethtrae, but the main character is now Cedric, whom was befriended by Leinad as a young child. This story is about the re-taking and the re-affirming of the kingdom in Arrethtrae, which is the major theme of the series.

Cedric’s life is filled with adventure as he faithfully serves as the King’s ambassador. A new character in this story is Talea, daughter of Leinad and Tess. She was co-raised by silent warriors and in the absence of her father they trained her to become a skilled warrior.

An interesting twist in the story is when Talea is injured during a daring attempt someone makes to kill Cedric and he realises what is going on. “I was torn between staying with Talea and searching for the wretch who had done this. Suddenly it dawned on me that the arrow had been meant for me, not Talea.” (page 123). What I found interesting about this was that Cedric had to make a big decision between stopping whoever that was or staying and looking after Talea.

If you want to find out what Cedric does and what happens to the kingdom of Arrethtrae, you should read the book.

The final end of this encouraging series. *sigh* It was a beautiful end indeed! Such a blessing to think of Christ's return for His people, and this book was both a delight to read and a beautiful testimony of what we as follower's of Christ have to look forward to. I loved all of Chuck Black's little additions and tweaks to a well-known story, as always, and found this last book in the series to be a sweet and exciting end. Do read this series - it will not only be a fun read, but it will encourage your walk of faith in the Lord!! :D

The story = 3 stars
The narration = 1 star

2 stars is the average between the two.

I don't like giving less stars than the story is worth, but the narration was so awful and I have one question. What was with all the music? It was crazy. Seriously.

I liked that there is Christian fiction for young readers. This had a great message. It gave plenty of opportunities for self reflection. But the messenger was so distracting. If you want to invest your time on this book, read it from the pages and don't do the audio.

A very interesting allegorical take on the end times. I really enjoyed certain aspects of how things were portrayed in this story. It definitely makes you think about what life will be like after the rapture. We tend not to think of much beyond Jesus' return, so I really liked this book because it explored that. Theology-debate aside, I believe this was handled extremely well and explained nicely. There were some areas that were slightly cheesy or made my eyes roll, but those were mostly outside of the overall plot of the story. Certainly interesting to read and think about.

Author: Chuck Black

Recommended Age: 8-11

Genre: Fantasy, Allegory

Books in Series: The Kingdom Series has a sequel series, The Knights of Arrethtrae. Because these two go together, it is recommended that after you have read the fifth book of the Kingdom Series, you read The Knights of Arrethtrae series, and then after finishing Sir Rowan And The Camerian Conquest, the final book in The Knights of Arrethtrae, you read book six of The Kingdom Series:
* Kingdom’s Dawn (2006)
* Kingdom’s Hope (2006)
* Kingdom’s Edge (2006)
* Kingdom’s Call (2007)
* Kingdom’s Quest (2007)
* Kingdom’s Reign (2007)

Summary:
Leinad’s life had always been peaceful, until the day his father was murdered. Faced with the cold reality of his father’s past, as well as his own, sixteen-year-old Leinad runs to the wilderness of Arrethtrae, accompanied only by his adopted sister. But when they are both captured and enslaved, Leinad must learn the truth behind the lies before the Dark Knight and his Shadow Warriors overtake all of Arrethtrae.

Notes from The Radical Reader:

Noble Characters:
Leinad and Tess are orphans with the distant memory of their father fading as their lives slip away in either slavery or hiding. When the call of the King comes, they accept his guidance and fight for the kingdom of Arrethtrae.

Captivating Plots:
These allegorical stories will bring the Bible to life in an entirely new way for young readers. Heroic knights and ladies, each tasked with spreading the hope of the King and the Prince to the distant reaches of the kingdom, are worthy heroes to be admired and emulated. Chuck Black’s story and plot mix truth with fiction and seek to teach Biblical truths to young readers in an engaging way.

Elaborate Worlds:
Young readers will recognize names and places as direct allegorical stories from Scripture, fueling their excitement to read the fiction stories and be empowered by the true tales. The Kingdom Series is a powerful tool and will strengthen readers for years to come.

No graphic violence, sexual tension, or profanity.

I'm not sure there was enough here to justify it being it's own story. He skims over most of Revelation, has zero in the way of prophecy fulfillment, and spends most of his time on a predictable and confusing relationship between two characters who have zero chemistry and I have zero investment in.

The parts that would be interesting (the two battles) are really over before they begin, and are conflicting. On one hand (narratively) he needs it to be thrilling and exciting with the outcome unknown. On the other hand (theologically) God has already won, and is far, far, far (far, far) more powerful than the devil.

The lack of magic comes back around since Revelation and the Second Coming will be a time of miracles and God's glory.

This was slow and mostly pointless. The series should have ended with everyone getting on the boat.

The people of Chessington realized that they should have listened to Leinad and followed the Prince. Now, they are ruled by a tyrant who is out to decimate them. The Prince's followers come to help defeat Lucius. They surround the enemy on all sides and defeat him.

The knights of the Prince are given cities to rule. For many years there was peace and prosperity. Then, there was an uprising, coming on the tenth feast. All the knights of the kingdom would be gathered together in one location. The attacking army was huge and the situation looked hopeless. The true King comes and saves his people.

THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME!!! This was by far the best book in the series. I loved the romance between Sir Cedric and Lady Talea. I also loved the mysterious identity of Talea. That was a great surprise. I loved how the book finished. To be honest I wasn't sure how your was going to end. There were so many times where it felt like the ending of that there was too much left to resolve. The author did a good job ending it. I loved the continuous allegories of the Bible. Very impressed with this series.

What is the weather romance he wants to throw into all of these books. It's like he wants to teach his kids with a healthy relationship and healthy courtship look like , but it just seems so contrived. It's book basically illustrates a possibility of the Millennium and final judgment and Final Vanishing of Satan. It's an interesting idea and it's presentation but just seems to be lacking as a final book of the series supposed to be joyous and exciting and whatever.

last of the kingdom’s series

I, as a nine year old boy, I LOVED this book, simply because two thing’s , and those thing’s only, 1: The fact that the prince( Jesus Christ) ALWAYS…won. I simply loved how the king and his son battled Lucius, AND, DEFATTED, but bitterly, and sadly realized that this is our stop. There are know more bad or sadness. This is good, but I almost mourn for the end of this tale.

It was not my favorite, but I did enjoy the series. The author was careful with his allegory and I appreciate that. The fiction and drama were intriguing and exciting and did not outweigh the Truth and the messages Mr. Black wanted to convey. Kingdom's Reign was probably my favorite book in the series. I think the big thing is that it isn't necessarily for my age group. I can definitely imagine many of a younger audience enjoying the Kingdom Series.

The six book has an amazing as the first five. The faith, friends, adventure, romance and the changing of lives are awesome. It is like the stories from the bible are in a timeline that is on another level. I think it would be best for teens because of the bloodshed, drama and other thing that are not for little kids.

More of a fantasy romance than a tale about the King, but nonetheless probably the best of the series because of it's increased fictional elements.

Definitely a very well written series of the Bible and of the book of Revelation. Definitely recommend reading the Knights series before reading this last book but it is up to you.
