Welcome to the World of the Belladonnas!!! An elite group of female assassins led by the mysterious 'Man'.
This is the 5th book released in the the 'Dress To Kill', multi-love interest book series. All books in the series are standalones by various authors.
I would consider Raven's story to be a light and fluffy, insta love story with spice. There is some history with 1 guy, so the Heroine does not feel like a complete stranger to the other hero's when they meet. Backstory is provided. :-)
All characters come across as younger, in my opinion. Raven is not your average assassin character. She's bouncy, deadly, quirky but also has her vulnerabilities. The guys are a pretty close knit group, due to there pasts. Has a Robin Hood vibe. :-)
So this is my third book in this series and my least favourite so far. It was pretty much instalove so everything after felt anticlimactic.
I think the book attempts to be humorous and it occasionally was but mostly came off as kinda weird . There are quite a few editing errors. Rueben (his name was mostly spelt like this) went to Reuben (which is probably the correct spelling) and then back again sometimes even in the same paragraph.
Raven is fun and quirky but also quite juvenile compared to Harlow and Selena which are the other books I have read.
This book gave me my first book hangover of the year! I . Want. MORE!!! I love Raven so much. She’s an assassin bringing down men who deserve it. I am a sucker for a woman who takes care of bad men 🥵. She is silly and capable. Clever and bad ass. Her character is perfectly imperfect and brilliantly written. I have never “met” a Kris Butler character I didn’t love and there’s no explanation to that in this book. Raven is the whole package. She can take care of herself and she does, never defaulting to her guys she takes care business. She chooses to have her guys by her side as her equals.
Her guys are protective, completely obsessed with her and doting on her is one of their favorite hobbies. Spa nights 😍 IYKYK. Ruben is my favorite MMC among the harem. Every time he came up my heart melted. I love him so much.
There is an appropriate amount of spice in this book. Lots of 1:1 time as well as more than one group scene!! This book was hot 🥵 and has exactly the right amount of plot content & heat.
Raven is a standalone within a series of books written by other authors. If you have read any of the other Belladonna books grab this one too! If you haven’t read any others grab this one first and you will be all in!!
Loved it!! From start to finish, it kept my attention. Full of humor, there was also action, steam and more!! I loved Raven! Of course she was a bad*ss, but she still had a tender heart. She was always unapologetically herself. Otto, Rueben, Phoenix, and Porter were perfect for her. I loved the relationship between the guys. The comfort level and love between them was so genuine. Each character had troubled pasts or had been hurt in some way and had needed each other. When Raven became a part of their group it seemed to be the missing piece. They became the family they were always meant to be.
There were some darker themes with the whole Assassin aspect, and due to some of the characters pasts, but overall I thought this was a sweet read! I couldn't help but laugh and swoon throughout. The ending was perfect and satisfying!😉
A lighthearted read about an assassin & a group of thieves was not what i was expecting when I started reading, but I loved it. This was my first read in the Dressed to Kill series and it's made me eager to get caught up on the others that have come out already (by different authors). I love how Raven & Otto's childhoods shaped them into the adults they grew up into, especially how Otto's stories he tells the other boys when they meet in foster care, shape how they grew up to become a group of Robin Hood-esque thieves. And then there's Raven, who joined the Belladonnas, to become a trained assassin, but would also be taught anything else she wants to learn. Learning medical skills helps to shape the type of assassin she becomes, one who mostly goes undercover as a nurse/doctor to give the targets a natural looking death. Lucky for her since she faints at the sight of blood due to childhood trauma. I also loved the humor in the book, many times stemming from Raven talking to herself and also not realizing that she is saying her thoughts out loud, many of them inappropriate thoughts in front of the guys. There's a mostly insta-love when the guys each meet Raven & instant attraction on her end. She's surprisingly quite naive & innocent in regards to relationships, so we get to see lots of sweet & caring moments as the guys worm their way into her heart. Which leads to one of my favorite moments of Rueben & Raven's first time together. I don't want to spoil it, so I'll just say it's a heart touching, smexy moment, showing Rueben's vulnerability, and I love, love, loved it. And extra plusses for it being quite a unique & unexpected scene.
Very cute and spicy ride. Raven is a one of a kind assassin that's for sure. She smart, goofy, and a little naive. I love that she's more plus size. It made her little more reliable.
I liked the second book, but it wasn't as good as the first. It had nothing to do with anything the author did. I just like them a little more blood thirsty. This was just really soft. Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome book. I highly recommend you read it, but after the first book where Royal was a little, crazy bada**, I was hoping Raven would be as well.
However, the men were hot and amazingly kind. I loved the story, and the connections with all four of her men. I do have to say, the men's affection kinda seemed like daddy play. They wanted her to sit on their laps, to feed her, brush her hair, bathe her, and paint her toes. Not many men like doing that stuff... Maybe the bathing lol So, it was fun to see what they'd do next.
I also liked that they were thieves this time. It brought a different aspect to her missions. My favorite part was her nerdy tendency. All in all, great book. Its got spice and everything nice.
This is the first book I've read in the Belladonna series. For a book about an assassin it is quite light and fluffy. Raven is an awesome character- I love her fashion sense!! She is the perfect combination of badass and vulnerable. I liked all of her guys but I think Reuben is my fave 😍 there is a good story alongside steamy scenes including one on one and group scenes.
I think this would have made an excellent series/duet- there wasn't much time for relationship development so it is pretty insta-love, so if you aren't a fan of this then just be aware if you pick this up. I'm usually not a fan of relationships happening so quickly, but in this book it works. All of the characters have their own issues so it makes sense for them to come together so quickly.
Overall, a good read which made me chuckle, which wasn't dark despite being about an assassin. Would definitely recommend.
The Dressed to Kill shared world of the Belladonnas has been very entertaining so far. However, none of the books have yet provided the depth of character and story as Raven. It is by far the most well thought out standalone book of the series.
Raven is love-able and relatable and her men are just as love-able. The Instalove is as insta as it can get but the author gives us a good reason and background for it. The storytelling is top notch and serves well as a standalone. As always I can’t wait for Kris’s next release!
A light and fluffy assassin book!?! Not what you'd usually expect, but in this case, it works well.
I'm not a huge lover of insta-love, but actually, within this story it made sense and works. The mfc has a background with one of the mmc, which does add extra information. And with the added fun of a twin sandwich, made for an interesting read 🔥
I'm intrigued enough in this storyline to want to read more of this shared world! ❤️
I am really enjoying the world of the Belladonnas so far and Raven did not disappoint one bit. I liked the premise of finding her long lost friend and the connection she has been longing for all this time coming to reality. There were some things that I found a bit naive and unsettling for someone, who assassinates people for living, but I can understand where the author was coming from as Raven has not been quite keen on relationships and therefore she approached everything scientifically. Despite that little hurdle, I did enjoy the book and the story was quite sweet.
ok, yeah, I gave this 2 stars, but it was actually pretty good! I just didn't like raven's ditsy, talking to herself thingie. I thought it was a good idea, and I liked it...for the most part. I mean, a clumsy, weirdo, assassin was a cool twist, I just couldn't deal with raven's, ah, talking her thoughts out loud thing. the love interests and the dialogue are all cool tho!
Raven was the book I didn't know I needed when I read it. It was full of laughs, action, and steam and left me wishing there was more. Raven is such a sweet assassin, like for real. She is surprisingly relatable and I loved her guys just as much. Raven was a thoroughly entertaining read and I fully recommend it! Off to see what else goes on in the world of the Belladonnas.
This was good, but it took me four days to read it, which is crazy long for me Plus the fact that the conflict is over so quickly every time and the heights are built up so hard for no payoff It is very Insta love And it happens so quickly for such a long book
My first book in the Dressed to Kill series and won't be my last! Another fantastic book by this author. If you're looking for a light hearted approach to assassins and Thieves, this is the book for you!
Raven just stole the lead for my favorite book in this series. There were so many moments where I laughed and laughed and laughed 😅 🤣 😂 . This girl was something else. There were so many things wrapped in this pint size assassin. She easily became my favorite Belladona girl. The guys were great too and honestly they are my favorite group of guys as well.
I really tried with this one. I so wanted to like it! But couldn’t do it. It was utterly ridiculous. Not even the least believable. Unlike the first in the series, it wasn’t largely logistical or professionally problematic. The main issues were the character interactions and personalities considering their professions and world experiences. They talked and behaved like sweet little children (who also kill and steal). It didn’t mesh. That level of naïveté and innocence based o their backstory and world view, would mean some sort of sever mental impairment.. Add to that, the 4 MMC’s are supposedly foster system survivors…yeah no.
Additionally, a whole house of neurotic assassins? Did they only choose those who were severely broken, and guaranteed to create unnecessary complication’s? How can an organisation be one of the best, when it’s filled with inefficient, teenage-like neurotics, severely limited in their professional capacities?
Never mind no one questions that based in our reality, each girl ends up with multiple males? Seriously, what are the odds? Not even mixed gender, or sexuality groups, but all one girl, multiple herto guys…someone needs to comment on that! If each group wasn’t also mentioned in other books, could ignore it. But they are a part of the shared world, but no explanation of how or why this keeps occurring. You really wouldn’t ask, or comment?
Like the first book, this all read like some sort of high school students fantasy of how this would work, but that as adults, we would know was utterly unbelievable.. Not even as a[n adult] fantasy story. [BTW, this is a comment for the series, not just an individual book.]
I REALLY liked the characters (except for the constant over explaining). I tried to skim to be able to continue the story, but I ended up skimming more than I was reading, and not even buying into the characters anymore. Couldn’t even make it to 50% sadly.
I keep trying with this world, as each book is by a different author. But honestly, it’s long past the point where you have to question the logic in the persistence..😂 Good thing their all on KU.
Successful in her job Raven has two things in her head a lot, the Thief group Loxley Crew, whom she admires being modern-day merry men. and her search for her childhood found family, protector, and overall friend. Join Raven and the boys on what becomes their joint adventure and find the answers.
Raven is not your typical assassin, I mean who has heard of an assassin who faints at the sight of blood. Raven has many quirks and qualities that make her relatable and this meant I found myself laughing, crying and everything in between. When she was younger Raven lost her best friend Otto when he was taken to hospital and she ran away from the social worker. It was this that lead to her being offered the chance of a lifetime, to become a Belladonna.
This book was a wonderful read and while it had many serious moments it also had me laughing at the funny ones. When Raven meets her guys it’s kind of instalove as they have been hearing her stories all their lives. The relationship between the characters was great and although they all fell fairly quickly for each other it was believable and great to read. If I’m honest it’s hard to pick a favourite character as they all blended together so well and are well written.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and you won’t be disappointed if you take a chance on it.
*RH *Contemporary *Multi-POV *Female Assassin *Thief Group *Twins *mid/slow burn *established harem (4) *standalone Sweet smushy standalone Raven is certainly one of the more quirky and light-hearted of Kris’s FMC’s! She does have her issues to deal with but in every day life she’s certainly a chipper lady, despite being a killer 😂 her commentary on things is rather amusing! Her story is one of which you don’t actually see the drive until right at the very end, so you do keep questioning why? It was a clever connection! The men are all different types of characters, and you really see Raven help to bring them out of their shells, especially Ruebaer 😍 and Phoenix! Whose twin Porter needs reining in more than anything, and Otto needs balance - Raven slides right into their group! Although the sex doesn’t come till the second half of the book it’s certainly spicy when it does 🔥🌶️ There’s a lot of insta-love and happy mush in this one despite their jobs 😊
Raven, by Kris Butler, is a fantastic blend of ultimate deadly talent and anti-norm romantic fantasy. Although written as a standalone, Raven is part of the unique Dressed to Kill collection of novels.
The storyline is fast-paced and very well written, filled with danger, murder, drug abuse and addiction, theft, intrigue, romance and hot sex. The characters are well developed and engaging. Raven's story is captivating. From surviving the streets as a young girl to becoming a top assassin, her strength and resilience shines through. Despite everything, Raven also maintains a level of innocence and compassion rarely found. Combine that with 4 hot, sexy men who dote on her every breath, and you get one great book. If you are looking for a hot reverse harem, like a little darker theme with some light humor and don't mind a few potential trigger points then this is one treat not to be missed!
Such an amazing and fun Assassin book! It is apart of the Belladonna Assassins world and it was light and fluffy with some sass and cuteness overload. I want Raven as my sister! She is so different than what you would picture for an assassin but she is exactly what you need. I could not get enough of this book and was truly sad when it was over! All the main characters are unique and quirky and their stories will pull at your heartstrings and make you fall in love with them. I honestly could not pick an ultimate favorite from the characters and I truly loved that. They all own my heart. I highly recommend this book and all the books to come by other authors that write about the Belladonna Assassins. You will love every bit of it!
Welcome to the Belladonnas! Assassins, modern day Robin Hood and a super relatable bad ass FMC with lots of steamy men, whats not to love?
Diving straight into the story, Raven is set to do what she does best and somehow finds the loves of her life along the way. Raven is a super relatable female who kicks ass while still loving her food and gets out of breath after too many stairs.
A truly heart warming story that is fun and spicy and easy to read. Fall in love with Otto, Phoenix, Porter and Reuben with each page along side Raven.
This story is a medium burn, with some very well written spicy scenes and the love story makes you feel all warm as you read it, so much so you almost forget at times that the main character is a very effective assassin.
I love Raven. I love her random mutterings, her joy in creating crazy new chemical compounds, her obsession with food. She’s adorable and quirky and sweet. The guys are also amazing. Porter and his golden retriever energy, so happy and cheerful. Phoenix and his hacking and darker outlook, until Raven comes along. Otto and how he’s loved Little Bird for 20 years, and never stopped looking for her. Reuben and his silence and need for the softer side of things. I fell for him with that first bite of chocolate cake. It’s so nice to read a book that’s just sweet and has no relationship drama. Sure, there’s murder and theft, but it’s not dark. Loved it!!
This book about an assassin & a group of thieves was way more fun and lighthearted than I was expecting! This was my first read in the Dressed to Kill series, but I've read tons of Kris Butler, and I'll now need to check out the rest of the series.
I liked how Raven & Otto's childhoods shaped them into the adults they grew up into. I also loved the humor in the book, many times stemming from Raven talking to herself and also not realizing that she is saying her thoughts out loud, a trope I love in books.
There is of course tons of romance and steam. If you love Kris' books and books with strong FMCs, you will not be disappointed.
I really loved this book. Raven was just a great character. She was smart but a little socially awkward and didn’t always understand. She reminded me a little of early Temperance Brennan from Bones. Brilliant but not always great socially.
I loved her guys too. Reuben definitely was my fav. The silent teddy bear. Some things regarding his past would be alluded to but I would have liked to know a bit more. I absolutely loved that most of them met her separately and all liked her individually before they realized who she was. I’ve never read a bad book by Kris! She’s quickly become one of my one-click download authors. ❤️
I loved everything about Raven's story. Raven herself is wonderfully quirky, absolutely adorable, and my favorite in the series so far. Her men are some of the best I have had the pleasure to read about. I adored Otto, especially because he wasn't "perfect." The twins stole my heart. I love grumpy guys, but sunshine guys are utterly fantastic. I want to protect their smiles with everything in me. And Rueben. I don't want to have favorites because I loved all the guys, but Ruebear is my favorite. I cannot lie. I just want to hug him forever. Such a good story. Well done Kris!
This was an enjoyable read. It held my attention the entire time. It had romance, action, laughs, and, of course, an amazing FMC who really held her own and was so easy to just swoon over. And, Raven easily melted the hearts of our men - Rueben, Otto, Porter, and Phoenix. And, let me tell you, I love these men, and these men love Raven. The storyline gives us spicy time, which we love. And, the whole flow of the story is nice, and you truly lose yourself while reading it. This was a definite page-turner right of the bat, and I recommend giving it read!
A Quirky Assassin? Yes, and I Loved It! Raven is not your typical assassin. I mean she can’t stand the sight of blood lol, but that doesn’t stop her from being good at what she does. I really enjoyed her character. I also loved the men in this story and the brotherhood/family they created before ever meeting Raven. This was definitely an Insta-love story but it made sense given the backstory, you’ll have to read it to get it. Definitely the sweetest assassin story I’ve ever read and I’m glad for it. As always Ms Butler brought the spice and just yum lol.
