This is a pretty good book of German folk-lore and legends. The lesser known stories are generally faux-historical, and often include zombies or other sorts of undead. The folk tales are typical stories of the sort, and many are fairly well-known.

Overall the book's tone was pretty good. It could probably be read to older children, but you'd want to read over it first, and only if they like scary stories.

HOWEVER, there was one story which is horribly anti-Semitic. In this book it's called 'The Jew in the Bush' but it's also known and hated as 'The Jew Among the Thorns' in other sources. This version is not quite as awful as some, but I'd still suggest steering clear of it.

I read the story 'The Conclave of Corpses'. It has a strong resemblance to M.J Lewis's famous horror Gothic novel, 'The Monk'. It was somewhat chilling tale. Enjoyed the gloomy atmosphere of this cemetery and its horrific inhabitants. To bad we'll never get to know who wrote this short story. Who ever he is, he got style.

Interesting, but lacking true connection to the reader

Some of the stories were interesting, but they neither stirred the heart where the imagination . They were very simple and plain stories . It is worth reading , but some of the details from other nations seem to be more enjoyable .
