This is the kindle edition of a book originally published in 1900 in the immediate aftermath of the Galveston Hurricane. As such, expect the prose and language of the time. A fascinating read if you are interested in the reporting off the time on this disaster. If you are looking for first hand accounts, historical setting and examination of the disaster etc, this is not the book. This is the book if you are interested in what the rest of the nation and world was reading about the hurricane in the weeks following.

I was told this book was full of first hand accounts of the Great Storm of 1900 in Galveston Texas. While there are some first hand accounts, there's a lot of repetition from start to finish, plus a lot of other facts about other disasters. I was disappointed in the book's structure and will look into other books regarding this horrible tragedy. We just spent a week on Galveston Island, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The Pier 21 Theater has a worthwhile 20 minute film on the storm.

Heartbreaking accounts of the Galveston horror

This was a heart wrenching book to read. The true stories of loss and the experiences of being in the 1900 hurricane were both fascinating and sad. I learned much about the event from the first hand reports written in this book. If you are a history buff or have ties to Galveston I highly recommend this book.
