Emma Wren has the power to destroy kingdoms, she just doesn’t know it. She has no reason to suspect that she’s anything but a regular teenager until two goblins and a spell-slinging stranger abduct her father. Then things get weird.
Emma soon discovers that her family’s roots lie not in the human world, but in a parallel world inhabited by two enemy races: the aristocratic, magically gifted Fay and the winged, bloodthirsty Slaugh. As the long lost heir of a Fay bloodline, Emma finds herself aligned with the Fay even though they seem less than eager to help her. A Slaugh rebel named Lev Hartwig proves to be a more valuable ally in Emma’s quest to get her father back. Together they uncover a plot that could mean the end of the Fay kingdom. At the center of the plot lies a flute with terrible power—power that only Emma can wield. She must decide what is more important: getting her father back, or saving thousands of Fay.
Ashley Setzer is the author of ten novels and various short stories that she claims or denies ownership of, depending on who’s asking. She likes cats and The Ramones. She does not care for gophers or any country song written after 1993. She lives in Salem, Oregon and has the good fortune to be surrounded by forests that grow stories like leaves.
If you like books where the experience of reading them is like inhabiting another world, you can't do better than The Flute Keeper. Ashley Setzer creates a world all her own, but describes it with such clarity and exuberance that your visit there will be vivid and wonderful. And this world is populated with magical, yet real, characters which truly develop with their experiences. The main character, Emma Wren, is a heroine for the ages. Intrepid, yet identifiable, Emma is an independent tour guide connecting our human world to the wonders of Faylinn. Enjoy.
I honestly loved this book. I got hooked, and read it literally ALL night. I'm exhausted now. It was too short for my likings, I really did not want to stop reading, I must get the next book. The only bad thing I have to say about it, is that it was a bit predictable. But at the same time, I wanted it to happen. I really came to enjoy the characters. (Especially Lev) I can not wait to read the next book. I recommend this book to everyone!
I really enjoyed reading this young adult fantasy novel. It was light with a good mix of humour and drama. The characters were very likable, and it had a good, although straightforward, story. Read my full review here: http://ireadencyclopedias.wordpress.c...
A young girl thrust into fairyland after her father was abducted. She discovers she is part fairy and the Keeper of the Flute. The book chronicles her adventures as she helps her new country. It is a good enough read that I bought the next one and await the third book.
