Second in the Underground Guardians series, this is a well-crafted and imaginative story. The wonderful hero struggles to find a balance between his needs and the heroine's need to make her own choices. Marcella is rather naive, but she's also intelligent and strong. The ending leaves you longing to learn more about these warriors and the world they try to defend.

The Underground Guardians was originally published through Ellora's Cave many years ago. As time passed, though readers asked for the next book in the series, I knew that there were things I should have done differently, that I wanted to do differently. More time passed, and this series stuck with me. I WANTED to write more stories. So finally, I sat down and said - how do I write more? How do I get from where I started to where I want to go? There was only one option. A spinoff series. So I wrote a new series -- THE ZODIUS series -- which debuts in May 2011 with Sourcebooks Casablanca with the book THE LEGEND OF MICHAEL. But these books - The Underground Guardians - inspired the Zodius series. Without them, the Zodius series would never have taken form. So here is a look into the young writer's vision into a world that later became the more mature writer's world. You will actually meet my inspiration for the Zodius version of Michael (LEGEND OF MICHAEL) in this book. In fact, there will be many things in the Zodius series that you will find familiar to the Underground Guardians series, but you will also find many things very different.
I hope this look into the world of the Underground Guardians will intrigue you enough to make you want to read the Zodius series, starting with LEGEND OF MICHAEL.

Loved this one, too! Can't give it a 4.5, but I will err on giving it one of my rarely used 5's.
This book and the one before it, "Underground Guardians: Protector" were written a few years back, and set up the first book in a new series, "Zodius'. The first book of Zodius is entitled, "The Legend of Michael: Sin and Satisfaction (Zodius, Book 1)"... we meet Michael in one of these preliminary books.
Ms. Jones did a very good job of holding my interest, building a story with excitement and action, a great love story between two characters that had much that was complimentary, and also the world-building aspects were not too fast or slow. I like the basic premise better than the BDB series (scarier bad guys, IMHO) and I am really hoping this series takes off.
The dialogue was good, realistic. Quite a few new characters were introduced to 'star' in upcoming books, including Michael, who will be in Zodius Book 1.
If you like Lora Leigh, Cynthia Eden, Sherrilyn kenyon, J.R. Ward, ets., you might want to read at least the first book of this series. The guys aren't into designer duds or heavy metal, but they are hot, and the bedroom scenes are lovely.
I am hoping Ms. Jones finds a mate for Micah in one of the Zodius books!!

This book really needs an editor. The second-in-commands name is Michael not Micah and there were other things that differed from the first book. Overall it was a nice fast read.

Marcella Hunter has always known she was different from pretty much everyone else. She has a special gift that makes others want to be able to control her so that they have control of her power to heal others. Her mother had the same gift but rather than be used by others chose death. Marcella was raised by her aunt. Now some men that are super soldiers are after her and they don't' care what they have to do to get her. They are not about to let anyone or anything get in their way. Marcella has always been on the run but she knows something evil is headed her way and she has to find a way to escape this latest problem. Marcella is also going to have to find out why she has this overwhelming desire to be with and stay with a man she doesn't know but feels that she does. That man is Diego Montez but is he someone she can trust or is he part of the evil that is after her? Marcella has always had very good instincts and even though they are screaming at her to trust Diego she must be careful because she has never felt this way about anyone and she doesn't want to trust her feelings and find out too late that she made the wrong decision.
Diego Montez is racing to save Marcella because she is also the key to help defeat the super soldiers. First he has to convince her to trust him and that he means her no harm. What Diego never expected was to find out that Marcella is his mate. Now he has to deal with his overwhelming instinct to make Marcella his right now but if he doesn't he will be too distracted to protect her the way his instincts insist on. Diego knows that time is quickly running out for them to have much in the way of choices so he is going to have to talk fast and show Marcella that he means her no harm. One of the ways he will be able to get Marcella to trust him is to let her heal the child she has come to heal but they will have to be careful that the enemies hunting them both doesn't find them first.
Diego is fast finding that Marcella has a mind of her own and he isn't going to be able to order her about to get her to do what needs to be done. He also knows that their true strength lies in them bonding and making their connecting as strong as they can otherwise the super soldiers will win and this is one fight Diego and Marcella cannot afford to lose. It is going to be a race against time if they are going to have any hope of survival.
This book continues the tale of Area 51. A definite MUST Read especially if You are planning to read "The Legend of Michael" and "The Storm that is Sterling".

Lisa Renee Jones did a very good job of holding my attention through out this book. I read it in one day. I didn't want to put it down. The story was exciting and had plenty of action, Also a great love story between the two characters that you couldn't help but fall for. The story line is building off the first book and the plot stays realisic I am glad to get another glimpse of Holly and Mason and then we get introduce to a few new characters that hopefully we will see in the future.

Sentence fragments. Too many. And why, why do they have to be blood drinkers on top of all of it? Can we not find an uberman sexy if he doesn't drink blood?
