Olives, trees, pickles, peas . . . What do they have in common? All of them are green! In her debut picture book, Laurie Rosenwald explores the world of color through humorous poetry and dynamic collages. Pink flamingos aspire to be ballerinas, yellow taxis screech to a halt at red stop signs, and black cats relax with the morning crossword puzzle. More than just an introduction to basic colors, this book shows how colors interact and enrich our everyday lives. Clever rhyming text and bold, graphic illustrations are sure to make this book a favorite read-aloud.
Laurie Rosenwald was born in Manhattan and feels sorry for people who visit New York and don't know anybody who can show them the backstreets. An accomplished illustrator and designer, she has worked with such clients as IKEA, Coca-Cola, and Nickelodeon. Her illustrations have appeared in The New Yorker and the New York Times.
This is a great book to read to younger children learning about the different colors. It will be enjoying due to the colorful pages and clever rhyming.
This colorful, shout out loud book is a feast for the eyes. Rosenwald uses collage illustrations and humorous rhyming text to describe the many colorful things in our world. Each color gets the chance to shine with witty rhymes such as this ode to green, “Olive trees pickles peas. But don’t eat it, please, if you find it on cheese.”
Preschool to elementary school age kids are the perfect audience for this book because they’ll really enjoy the clever, humorous rhymes.
What a fabulous color book for older kids. Doesn't do a great job of explaining how colors mix, etc. but is really creative and fun in the illustrations and writing. It's big, bright, and bold with collage illustrations. I love it!
I think this book wood be appropriate for early childhood ages 1-5. Bright colors and common objects could be used to help with phonological awareness, letter knowledge, print awareness, and print motivation.
This book shows pictures and words in various vibrant colors.
Age: 1+
Skill: Print Awareness (This book shows the printed words in the color, which promotes learning how to read or recognize the shapes of the color words.)
Mixed media pictures, rhyme, and introducing colors and the emotions often associated with them. It's a little long for the younger preschool set but I think it's still a good one.
fun collage illustrations and humorous rhyming text make color book stand out from many in this often-done children's genre. might inspire some good art creation in readers!
