Harold Lee Lindsey was an American evangelical writer and television host. He wrote a series of popular apocalyptic books – beginning with The Late Great Planet Earth (1970) – asserting that the Apocalypse or end time (including the rapture) was imminent because current events were fulfilling Bible prophecy. He was a Christian Zionist and dispensationalist.

Not a chance in the world that I would read a Hal Lindsay book and rate it 4 stars-only I did. Now to explain. I was visiting my dad and Hal's tv show came on and my dad asked me to buy this book for him. I was hesitant but then I watched Hal talk about the book and decided to buy it for my dad as a gift. After he read it he gave it to me to read and because I had liked what Hal said on the video I went ahead and read it.

This is just a solid book on faith. Very encouraging, theological even. So even though I am not a pre-trib rapture type of Christian I found much, much to like about this book. Hal really doesn't even mention the rapture until the last chapter.

If you are facing anxiety, trials, or suffering then you will find this book faith-building. I am surprised to say that I highly recommend this book and I learned a little about pre-judging other believers to boot.

A helpful surprise.

A RE-WRITING OF A 1986 BOOK, BUT WITH SUBSTANTIAL ADDITIONS/CHANGES

Harold Lee "Hal" Lindsey (born 1929) is a best-selling author, who is currently host of "The Hal Lindsey Report" TV program. (He formerly hosted International Intelligence Briefing on TBN, but the show was removed as being too "pro-Israel"/"anti-Arab"; he provides the financing for the Hal Lindsey Report himself.)

He wrote in the Forward (sic) to this 2003 book, "We live in one of the most dangerous and anxiety driven periods in human history. And the perilous, tumultuous events that were predicted to come upon the world just before Christ's return are here and growing more severe daily. I am sure it is because of this that the Holy Spirit literally drove me to completely re-write an old book of mine, and apply it to the desperate needs of this critical hour. I have re-written my book, 'Combat Faith,' which is no longer in print, and applied it to the desperate needs of the Christian as he enters the countdown to 'Earth's Final Hour.'"

He states, "I wrote a special report for my International Intelligence Briefing program in 1991 in which I said, 'With the fall of the Soviet Union, Islamic Fundamentalism has now become the greatest threat to world peace.' Every generation has had a revival of Muslim Fundamentalism, but not on the present scale. With the 1.3 billion Muslims in today's world, there is a whole new dimension of danger. Of course, the Fundamentalists pose the greatest threat." (Pg. 4-5)

He asserts, "I believe that the temptation to compromise our confession of faith in Christ will soon be much greater than anything yet known in the Western world. Militant Islam may soon give many Americans the choice of renouncing Christ and believing in Allah or death. They have already done this with hundreds of thousands of Christians in other parts of the world. There have been millions of martyrs in Africa and Southeast Asia. This is why I believe that the message the Lord gave to the Hebrew believers concerning the faith-rest during their period of persecution is one of the major biblical teachings relevant to the Church's preparation for its last days." (Pg. 41)

He ends on a positive note: "May you, dear reader, crack the faith barrier and live by His promises. May you become so heavenly minded that you're not bogged down by earthly cares! May you look at all of your circumstances from the Divine viewpoint. And may I meet you at His feet and rejoice at your many crowns and beautiful robe. MARANATHA!" (Pg. 299)

Lindsey's vehement anti-Islamic perspective mars the book (e.g., he too readily links ALL the 1 billion Muslims in the world to "Muslim Terrorism," despite the fact that "mainstream" Islam firmly repudiates such terrorism). However, once one gets past the early chapters, Lindsey moves away from politics into areas where his clear style of exposition will be an encouragement to many Christians.
