Hal Lindsey, the father of modern-day Bible prophecy, contends that he has cracked the "Apocalypse Code" revealing long-hidden messages about man's future and the fate of the earth as prediced by the biblical prophet Daniel.
Harold Lee Lindsey was an American evangelical writer and television host. He wrote a series of popular apocalyptic books – beginning with The Late Great Planet Earth (1970) – asserting that the Apocalypse or end time (including the rapture) was imminent because current events were fulfilling Bible prophecy. He was a Christian Zionist and dispensationalist.
This book was really a thriller, it has so many possibilities of the apocalypse and other events that can happen that people are aware about, for example; the end of 2012 or the big L.A. earthquake. The book is mind bending and really catches the readers eye. I would recommend this book to everyone.
LINDSEY'S UPDATED SEMI-COMMENTARY OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION
Harold Lee "Hal" Lindsey (born 1929) is a best-selling author, who is currently host of "The Hal Lindsey Report" TV program. (He formerly hosted International Intelligence Briefing on TBN, but the show was removed as being too "pro-Israel"/"anti-Arab"; he provides the financing for the Hal Lindsey Report himself.) [NOTE: page numbers refer to the 313-page paperback edition.]
Lindsey's 1973 book, 'There's a New World Coming,[ was a verse-by-verse commentary on Revelation. To some extent, this book is an updating of that earlier effort. He wrote in the first chapter of this 1997 book, "Global warming, rising sea levels, weather pattern changes, monster storms, increasing numbers of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, plagues, super strains of old diseases, the demise of 'miracles drugs,' tornados, famines, floods, killer heat waves, killer cold waves, and the like, are driving many to search for clues as to where it's all leading. No wonder [there] is another boom...
"Whatever one thinks about the Bible, I believe it is rather obvious that things predicted in the first century AD or earlier are in clear view today. One would be hard pressed not to recognize this in view of the media attention given to the very phenomena the prophets predicted... So read on, and discover more shocking things that are coming soon. And more important, you may find a way to escape the worst of it." (Pg. 25, 28)
He states, "The Apocalypse is not an allegory... It is not fiction... It is a living, breathing prophetic and historical account of events yet to take place. It was written to be understood by the generation that was near the fulfillment of the astounding things predicted to immediately precede the Coming of Jesus the Messiah. I believe we are that generation." (Pg. 67)
He adds, "The Antichrist will be a European." (Pg. 73) After quoting Rev 7:13-17 ['These are they who came out of the Great Tribulation...'], he comments, "I'm glad I won't be here to live through what hellish nightmare these heroes must endure during the Tribulation." (Pg. 129) He observes, "in recent years, we've witnessed the greatest resurgence in witchcraft, Satanism, and occultism since the days of ancient Rome. Satan wants a religious world that will worship him, not atheistic rationalists." (Pg. 172)
He asserts, "Have you ever wondered where the United States---the world's sole remaining superpower---fits into the end-times prophetic scenario? There are no direct references in scripture to a nation that can unequivocally and unmistakably be identified as America... It seems a good guess that America will decline in global stature and authority before the return of our Lord and the events that lead up to that great event. We cannot rule out the possibility that the United States will be part of the revived Roman Empire that rules over the world and breeds an evil dictator with an assignment from hell. But the Bible is clear that the real power in those final days will be seated in Europe. So, for one reason or another, America will take a back seat." (Pg. 177-178)
Of the infamous "666" in Rev 13:18, he suggests, "lots of Bible scholars have tried to figure out exactly what it's all about. But I don't think it's a big mystery. Since the number 6 in the Bible stands for man, I believe the meaning of 666 is man trying to imitate the trinity of God." (Pg. 194)
He rejects Postmillennialism, arguing, "My most serious objection to this view is that it teaches that God has finished with Israel as a special nation and people and there is no future for them in this sense. In this view, the Israelites forfeited the unconditional covenants made by a solemn oath of God because of their continued disobedience. To the Pre-Millennialist, this makes God out to be a liar and contradicts clear statements in the New Testament which show the covenants still in force to a believing remnant." (Pg. 263)
He says, "If we are indeed living in the last days of God's prophetic program before the return of Jesus Christ to redeem the planet, then the early part of the 21st century is going to be a frightful time for the world." (Pg. 282)
This book adds little to what Lindsey has previously written. As with his other post-1980s books (past the "Countdown to Armageddon" decade), however, he expresses his opinions in a much more NUANCED fashion, and much less specifically.
Author's take on the meaning of various apocalyptic prophecies found in the Bible. He takes the images and scenes portrayed in the various prophecies and attempts to frame them in terms of the current (1997) world. Some interpretations seem plausible, others not as much. Regardless, it does pose some interesting ways in which end-times might occur.
I've been following Hal Lindsey for some time. There were some interesting things in this book and it is also interesting to see how close the predictions in this are to the realities of living in 2012. This is a good primer for End Times study, as it can give you some insight and scriptures to meditate on as the Holy Spirit helps you understand a rather challenging subject. My advice would be to read up on what Hal Lindsey and Chuck Missler both teach. Also, the book, Things to Come, by Dwight Pentecost....is a must read and reference book for your library. I cannot wait to buy it and go deeper. Once the perspective of Hal Lindsey and Chuck Missler get you in the zone, then you'll be ready to hit Things to Come and really meditate on the scriptures for final insight. Avoid Hank Hanagraaph, and his preterist views at all costs.
A good biblical prophecy study on the end times. Almost 20 years after buying and reading it first, the second time thru was to see if any of his points may have held true. Although he relies on humans too much, much of his insight is respected. I find the Greek drama angle for relaying the info to the minds of the time Rev was written, and the more Godly explanations in Matthew Henry's commentary, more efficient. Adding things like HAARP and the organization that a recent times pope advocated for (a one world religion), there is much to be researched and pondered upon in this work.
