Very interesting review of energy from a mainly scientific point of view, but with historical perspectives, philosophy and practical tips too. Even mini-bios of the main 'energy' scientists.

I learnt a lot, but rather heavy going.

Brown makes science come alive, literally. This is a great owner's manual. The writing is superb -- the first chapter is some of the best science writing I've read.

A layman's book on how the body converts the food you eat into the energy needed to live, following this process all the way down to how the mitochondria functions as the cell's powerplant.
