WHEN RISK IS THE REWARD — LET THE DANGER BEGIN

Adrenaline junkie Jared Livingston has found the perfect blend of exhilaration and danger in his new job at Last Chance Rescue. Raised to depend only on himself, Jared tried marriage, but the end of the relationship renewed his belief that he was meant to be a loner. Now a desperate plea from his ex-wife puts Jared in the unique position of using the skills she despised to rescue her missing daughter. The case brings Jared face-to-face with Mia Ryker, the only agent ever fired from LCR—for playing too far outside the box. Now Mia’s back, and as a team, they’re as compatible as fuel and fire—blowing off tension in each other’s arms, blowing open the secret life of a wealthy philanthropist and his shameful dealings. Their search for the innocent child takes them to places neither have been before—to the edge of danger and to the edge of their hearts.

Quick summary
Jared Livingston was married and working as Kane Enterprises' lead investigator in his last major appearance. He's now divorced, an LCR operative and almost nothing like the character we knew from that story. He's remote and has a reputation for taking significant risks but doesn't have relationships with anyone aside from his existing one with Lucas Kane. Mia Ryker runs a rescue operation in Chicago and reaches out to LCR when she encounters an infant abduction case that seems to connect with one of theirs. She's teamed with Jared and it's an unlikely but brilliant match.

What I liked
Mia is now one of my favorite heroines and only she could bring down the cold and stoic Jared. She's natural and underneath that sweet personality and delicate frame is a well trained operative who handles herself. Jared never had a chance of getting away but not because of any guile or planning on Mia's part. It was her genuine nature that disarmed him and floored him. You won't find any games or trite misunderstandings in this romance. I loved them together.

We learn early on who's behind these infant abductions and I really liked the parallel scenes coming from the villains' points of view. I never wanted to see a bad guy taken down as much as the narcissistic jerk in this story. The final showdown was really well done as it's not just a test of skills but also an extraordinary connection established between Mia and Jared.

The bottom line
I wasn't excited about starting this story but quickly got engaged. It's a very good balance of suspense and romance, all developing at a perfect pace. The climax was perfectly suited to the characters, weaving the romance and the op skillfully. This is one where the romance captured my heart.

I'm so sad this series is over!! Nooooo!!!

This was a GREAT opposites-attract, steamy, HOT romance suspense. Jared and Mia may be my favorite couple yet in the series. Their chemistry was just off the charts fun and HOT. He is a serious minded, stoic man of few words, while she is a bubbly, talkative and genuinely happy person with an infectious laugh. Talk about opposites! Initially he finds her reckless and incompetent, but as they work closely together to catch a baby-snatching bad guy, she proves herself every bit as strong and capable as him. This story had a great mix of suspense, humor, heat and nail biting action.

Sweet Reward was a great ending to a fun, sexy romance suspense series. I enjoyed every book, ever character, and will really miss these guys. Reece is one of my few auto-buy authors, and this book kept her firmly on that short list. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!!

I went in to read this book expecting not to like it but I was wrong and it was really an awesome end to the LCR series.

When the book opens we have a Jared as a little child being abused and beaten in an orphanage and later on we see an adult Jared, LCR operative and a man who likes to take risks and is essentially a loner. After completing one operation he gets a call from his ex-wife and even though there is no love lost between them he goes and finds out her baby is missing, a lead has him going to Chicago and Mia Ryker.

Mia is not what Jared was expecting for one she seems to look too delicate to run a rescue organization, let alone handle herself and seems to be a contradiction, adventurous on one hand and homey with a bunch of dogs on the other. He is attracted to her but has no intention of acting on it and when it seems like their cases don't match, he is glad to leave.

But later he finds Mia back in Paris and teamed up with him and he doubts her capabilities even after he learns she is LCR trained but she soon sets him straight.

I really liked Mia, she was one tough cookie and a full woman, she knew how to handle herself and on the other hand was gentle as well, loved cooking and more and she knew how to set Jared straight. When she worked for LCR she was a bit reckless and that got her fired but she still remained friends with Noah and carried no grudges.

The attraction between them explodes and they embark on an intimate relationship but Mia doesn't expect any promises from Jared and expects to go back to Chicago and her work and despite not wanting to Jared grows closer to her and finds out about her wealthy upbringing, the problems after her kidnapping, her failed engagement(her sister and fiancee hooked up) and then the way she became her own woman, going against her family and he comes to admire her and believe that she can truly take care of herself.

Jared's wife and time in foster homes did a number on him, he got married thinking his wife was like him a cool customer and when she found out about his job she kicked him out and then called on him to use the same skills for her, I found her hypocritical and agreed in Mia's assessment of her, but I liked how Mia never pushed him and instead acted cool in the face of his boorishness.

I enjoyed the relationship and the villain was over the top, and when Mia uses her connection to get close to him we see Jared's struggle.

A very solid book.

Jared Livingston works for Last Chance Rescue (LCR), an organization run out of Paris that rescues kidnap victims, usually in very dangerous situations. Currently, his company has noticed a trend of very young infants that have gone missing. This is not the normal human trafficking of teenage girls they usually see. Making it more personal, Jared’s ex-wife and her new husband’s six-month old daughter has gone missing. Even though Jared is not on good terms with his ex-wife, he still feels invested in this case.

Back in the states, Mia Ryker runs her own small rescue firm, Ryker’s Rescue. She actually once worked for LCR, but she took too many risks and was let go. Mia also has a client that has a missing baby, and Jared is assigned to go out to Chicago to see if there are any links to his case.

Mia and Jared meet, they end up back in Paris to pursue the string of kidnapped infants, and work together on solving the case and falling in love. Which is all fine and dandy, except the story didn’t work for me at all.

I’ll begin with a very unlikable hero. Jared had a bad childhood, where he was abused in the foster care system. I get it. He is dark and tortured. Moody and broody. But instead of being a dark hero where I couldn’t wait to see the heroine woo him, he had no personality, and was just kind of mean. I didn’t understand Mia’s attraction him at all. Mia is the typical “delicate” female and Jared immediately doesn’t trust Mia because he thinks she looks too vulnerable.

She’s just not LCR material. She lives outside of Chicago in a house that looks like it belongs in a 1950s sitcom family, with five dogs and a cat.
Right, because someone who lives like this couldn’t also be a strong, well-trained agent. And I waited for Jared to change his attitude but that doesn’t really happen throughout the book. Something else that didn’t sit well with me is that Jared and Mia meet an informant and the situation turns dangerous. Instead of Jared running after the suspect, (who has a limp!!!) he decides to stay with the uninjured Mia who happened to be shot at but wasn’t hit. What? Is this the actions of a man who is suppose to be this elite LCR agent?

As the story progresses, these two fall in love. I think they are suppose to have a “I hate you, but really dig you” flirtation, but instead it really feels like they don’t like each other and then all of a sudden they fall into bed. I didn’t buy it. Again, Jared is such a flat character, I didn’t feel why Mia would be attracted to him at all. I liked Mia a little better, once in a while she would have a witty response to something Jared said, except when it comes to his ex-wife. (who has a missing baby). Mia is very bitchy about her and can’t believe what a cold woman she is, it felt very jarring and out of character for Mia to act like that.

The villain in this one gave me trouble too. He felt too over the top, and at the same time kind of dense. He is in charge of the kidnapping ring, he is a big, important guy. When Mia needs to infiltrate by going undercover as a possible girlfriend of his, he doesn’t vet her to see who she really is. He is an acquaintance of her parents’ yet doesn’t know she owns her own company hunting the very people who steal babies, like he is doing?

So much in this book frustrated me and the romance fell flat, I can’t recommend this one.

My favorite of the series and my first five star rating, also. This was a freaking fabulous book.

Full of great suspense and hot romance, this one goes on my favorites shelf. There was something very genuine about the reluctance of our hero/heroine to having a relationship with one another. Jared is the silent, stoic risk taker of LCR with no sense of self preservation. Mia is a gentle, sweet soul that Jared feels like he needs to protect. He can't see that she can handle herself and can't fathom how Noah let her work for LCR. Now, they are working together to stop a baby theiving ring and to find Jared's ex wife's daughter. Their attraction to one another is appalling to both of them, and they fight, fight, fight it!

When the chemistry between these two finally blows up, sparks fly and I swear the top of my head wanted to blow! Not only was the sex passionate, but it was also soul shattering. Sounds silly, but it brought tears to my eyes...Jared's adoration of Mia was so romantic. The eroticism was partially due to how hard he fights his attraction. When he caves, its like watching nature take over...primal and instinctive. Mia is right there with him.

While all of the LCR rescues have been worthy causes, this one was about the recovery of babies, which always tends to bring out the motherly instints in me. One of the big differences in this book is that the violence level and the depravity of the villain was much more toned down. No rape scenes, (whew!) and the evilness was there, but not so much that I needed a shower afterwards.

This series has been such a solid, guaranteed good read from start to finish. I'm surprised that it doesn't have more followers, and highly recommend it to any fans of the genre. Noah and his Last Chance Rescue squad have become such likeable characters. It's been great seeing how many of the different relationships have progressed. I hope that Ms. Reece continues with at least a spinoff, if not another trilogy. I would love to get a few more blips into their lives!

My Review:

Last Chance Rescue...there has been 9 books to this series and EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. THEM. HAS. BEEN. PHENOMENAL. As the final book in this series (although Christy has said that she *might* revisit LCR at a later time,) this book did not disappoint in the least. Sweet Reward is the story of Jared and Mia.

Christy Reece writes some amazingly tortured heroes, but I think Jared is right up there at the top as my favorite...OMG, I loved his character, just because he is so full of angst (I really love me an angst-y hero.) Jared is reserved, unemotional, and sometimes brash (when it comes to putting his life on the line for a mission.) Even the boss at LCR, Noah McCall, sometimes wonders if there is truly a man under that hard facade because he never lets anything get in the way of his mission and perfection.

The complete antithesis to Jared's character is Mia's character. Mia was fired from LCR because she could not follow the rules, and she then opened her own Rescue business in Chicago. With Mia, what you see is what you get. Her life is full of adventure, happiness, and she does exactly what she wants. She is exuberant and so completely full of life. She is so completely unlike Jared, that he doesn't know what to make of her or how to react to her. She keeps him completely off-balanced. I really liked that aspect to their relationship. I love how she would make him laugh spontaneously, surprising even him. For me, what made this book work so well was their incredible chemistry, which surprised both of them.

This is a book where opposites definitely attract. Not only are Jared and Mia completely different in their entire outlook on life, but they also come from completely different backgrounds. Mia grew up as the daughter of a politically powerful diplomat. Jared was orphaned at age 6 and grew up in an abusive foster system. Christy seemed to do some special weaving of the story line within this book so that both of their stories come out very, very slowly throughout the extremely quick pace of the romance and suspense story lines. I loved the way that she drew out all the details of exactly why Mia and Jared are both the way that they are...and there are very specific reasons for that (no spoilers here though.)

There is plenty of angst, emotion, suspense, romance, smexy-action, and danger-action in this book to keep me extremely happy. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from Christy before the release date and spent Christmas Eve morning reading, when I really had other things that I needed to be working on. I could NOT put this book down, until I had read every single bit of it...it was just so good!

I am so sad to see the end of the LCR series, but this was a phenomenal book to end the series. This is a 9-book series, but don't let that number put you off. Almost all of these books can stand alone very easily, especially this one. There are references to the other couples from the other books because most of them are still operatives within LCR and they all work together, but other than that, these books each focus on the H/h story and their current mission. If you haven't read any Christy Reece's books, I HIGHLY recommend that you pick one up. This one released Dec. 27th and even though it's the last, it's a good place to start. I promise that once you read one Christy Reece LCR book, the next 8 books will be in your TBR soon!

2. Return to Me- Samara & Noah

5. Second Chance- Cole & Keeley

I agonize whenever I write a review. Matter of fact it causes nail biting and me to breakout into a sweat. BUT I absolutely love the LCR series and want others to see what I see. Great writing, awesome characters and books that will pull you in and make you not want to stop reading until the last page. That being said let me tell you what I LOOOOVE about this last book in her series besides the things I mentioned above.

Mia! is soo much more than you expected. She is spunk and sass and laugh out loud funny(Reece shows us she has a great sense of humor again and can bring it across on paper)and better than any game of musical chairs you've been in since Reece added the spice by the name of Jared Livingston! She is the kind of girl you would want as your bestfriend. Plus she has courage, strong morals and is tough when she needs to be. And she is just the right match to light a fire under Jared. You have your suspence and your Happly Ever After so you know everything will turn out right. This was well worth my money. And if your not into romantic suspence, buy it anyway, especially for the elevator scene that starts on the bottom of page 122. It is hot enough to melt the emergency brakes right off an elevator itself.

After reading each and every book in Christy Reece's Last Chance Rescue series, it's a bittersweet good-bye to the absolutely unforgettable stories and characters that came alive in each of these books. A bit ironic that the last title would be SWEET REWARD because that is exactly what I received with each new book in what has become my all-time favorite romantic suspense series.

I highly recommend this series to readers who love their suspense dark, gritty, and intensely creative, along with sizzling hot romance in each and every book.

The romance took center stage in this installment and I loved every minute of it. Jared and Mia are my favorite LCR couple. They didn't play games with each other which was very refreshing. Noah cracks me up how he plays matchmaker in each book. Great book! Great series!

Jared Livingston not only likes living life on the edge, but his job as an operative for Last Chance Rescue gives him all the rush he needs. His new case happens to hit close to home when his ex wife calls with her baby has been kidnapped. Although they don’t get along he feels like he needs to help out no matter what it may cost in the end.

Mia Ryker is an ex-Last Chance Rescue operative who now runs her own rescue business in Chicago. When the case starts not to make compete sense she is brought in to help Jared put all the pieces together to get the baby back safe. This includes working with the sexiest man she has ever encountered.

Sparks start to fly as Jared and Mia start to work very closely together. Mia takes a chance and decides she wants to go undercover, but Jared isn’t sold on the idea. She is bringing out feelings in him that are more than confusing so he tends to try to ignore them as the case starts to progress. In the battle with himself he finds it more difficult than he has expected.

Reece brings you on ride that is emotional and action packed from the beginning to the very end. I wouldn’t say I fell in love with this book but it was a book that kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what in the world is going to happen. Jared is a hero that you easily like or instantly don’t. I found myself on the fence about his character throughout reading. In the beginning he is so cold and hard, I got the feeling he would never soften, but as the story did progress it became clear on why he was the way he was. So when he does a 180 i have to admit I was more than pleased.

I loved the fact that Mia brought in her emotions in everything she did. They were both just so different that they ended balancing each other out very well. Mia didn’t end up being so kick ass as I first thought of her to be, but none the less she was the perfect heroine for Jared. The way she doesn’t back down to him or anyone else makes him want her even more than he would have ever expected. The way she ends up gets to him is really is a classic.

No relationship is ever easy especially not there’s. They will have to work at their relationship to keep it in balance. Although the case takes you on turn after turn, you can’t help but feel the tension between these two which to me was the best part of the story. Sweet Reward will leave you with just that… a reward that will leave you with an ending that you will never forget.

First off I must start by saying that this is My Favorite of the "Sweet" Trilogy. From pages one I was hooked, and the only time I put the book down was 78% through the book so I could scream and rant because I wanted to KILL one of the secondary characters. UGH!!

If you are planning to purchase any books this year, you need to read this book, ok....first read Sweet Justice (awesome) and Sweet Revenge (crazy awesome), then read Sweet Reward, you will be thanking me!!

I was intrigued by Jared Livingston from Sweet Justice and I was so happy Christy decided to delve a little deeper into his life, and what a life it had been. I couldn't help but feel sooo much for the little boy he was and for the man he had become, I just wanted to give him a big hug. The spark of chemistry that happened when Jared and Mia Ryker was ....BAM...and I LOVED every second of Sweet Reward from that second on!!

I usually find myself not loving a heroine when I want the hero for myself...hee hee, but I LOVED Mia just as much as I loved Jared. She was a spark of bright energy, sweet, loving and we can't forget...KICK BUTT!! Loved when she took Jared down...haha!!

I loved how "REAL" they were...how well they fit with each other. I was cheering for them the from the first time they laid eyes on each other and watching them fall in love was like a balm to my soul.

And I can't forget to give props to Ms. Reece for giving us an amazing adventure. She has a way of sucking you into the LCR world so you feel as if you are right there in the action, kickin butt along side Mia and Jared. And your Villains are always.. just that side of crazy, which I love....I haven't read such creepy Villains in a long while, and Phillipe was no different, not scary creepy, but you just felt the need to wipe the stupid grin off his face. And Mia's sister.....I would have kicked her ass years ago...I have some choice words for her, but I am a lady and I won't let her get to me...hee hee

Ms. Reece....please never stop writing....Your books are amazing and I look forward to many more amazing adventures from you!!

Sweet Reward was magically delivered to my Kindle this morning and I've already finished it! It was amazing!

Jared was such a grouchy ass at times, but then he would show a little bit of sweetness...how could Mia not fall for him! I loved Mia's zest for life and how she kept Jared off balance.

I loved the glimpse we got into Noah and Samara's life...I always love catching past couples are doing and seeing how happy they still are. Samara is still not taking any of Noah's crap and he still loves her like crazy :)

Christy's villians are always super creepy and Phillpe was no different...UGH! What a self-absorbed ass-clown! Just listening to his schemes made me want to thump him.

I'm sad this is the last LCR book...I'm thinking maybe I should have savored it a little more, but I couldn't put it down. Even though I am sad to see the end of this series I am excited to read whatever Christy comes up with next, I know it will be amazing!

5 Stars and a Guilty Pleasures Creme de la Creme Pick

Sweet Reward is action packed, emotional, sexy and has many LOL moments. I LOVE the back and forth between Jared and Mia. She is sassy, feisty and tough, he literally could not figure out how to deal with her. But when he finally gave in to his desire it was smokin' hot!!! The tender moments when he finally opened up and told her about the ghosts that haunt him and her reactions to him are some of the sweetest I've read. (I want to put a few of my favorite quotes, but I won't, I don't want to spoil them for anyone)

We get to see/hear about the other LCR members and OMG there is a scene between Noah and Samara that melted me.

I am still sighing about how happy Jared and Mia's story made me.

This might be 4.5 stars, very good representative of its genre, and one I enjoyed really a lot.

Christy Reece does romantic suspense in very good balance with characters and story lines. This is the ninth in her Last Chance Rescue series, where operative around the world seek missing persons, from human slavery to missing babies, and much in between.

This one concerned babies kidnapped and sold to people who did not or could not get babies to adopt by legal means. You can read it without reading the previous eight books, but you will miss getting to know some of the operatives who are in other books, and you'll miss their leader, Noah McCall, and a wee bit of history of the lead male in this one, Jared Livingston.

If you like the Romantic Suspense genre, I do highly recommend this series. I will be reading #10 when the adrenaline wears off :)

February - 4.5. Great ending to a 9 book series - will be sorry to see it go! And how, how, how can Christy Reece mention gorgeous heartthrob Adrian in the last couple of books and not give him his own story - boo!! While I loved the 3 "to me" books (Rescue, Run, Return) and the 3 Chance (No, Second, Last) books, the other two Sweet books (Justice, Revenge) were a bit lacking - but this one made up for that!!

3.5/5 - I wasn't too sure when I started if it would be possible to warm up to Jared. He's had a hard past, but he's just plain mean at times to Mia. But I loved Mia and Jared didn't really stand a chance when it came to staying away from her. The ending wrapped up a little too neat, but I've enjoyed all the LCR books and liked this one the more the story went on.

My first Christy Reece book and I am really impressed!
I don't have much to say except it played out just like the synopsis and I had fun reading it thru. I found this book randomly so I wasn't sure if it worked as a standalone but it definitely does! I'm really happy to have a new series to read now:)

While I definitely enjoyed this instalment of the LCR books, I'm starting to feel like the male leads are just interchangeably blurring into each other - and like I said with Dylan's book, the whole emotional constipation thing gets less and less enjoyable with each rinse and repeat (and it wasn't my favourite trope to start with).

Hopefully, book 10 - Jake and Angela's story - will be a change of pace. I'll stick it on July's TBR though, so I can have a few books from different genres before I come back to it. (It's possible that reading Dylan's and Jared's stories back-to-back has really highlighted the similarities between them).

Other than the damaged, unable-to-communicate-his-way-out-a-paper-bag hero though, this was an enjoyable story, and I did like Mia's competence and utter determination to live her life on her terms. (I could have done without the inexplicable sibling hatred though - I feel like this could have been developed on far better than it was)

Still an overall four-star read for me though, and I'm looking forward to finishing the series next month.

Another absolute cracker!!!

I don't know how the author keeps delivering but she does! This was a fantastic read with lots of suspense, action, passion and heartache. She kept me reading well into the early hours so that I could just finish 'one more chapter' though that was never enough! Am going to get the next in the series tight now!! Definitely worth your time and money!!! This author has NEVER given me a bum read!!!

This was fun!! Lots of action, good banter and great characters. *Spoilers ahead* I do believe they didn’t seem at all prepared for the worst case scenario given the circumstances of their investigation and the fact that they’re supposedly highly trained rescue operatives butttt what do I know (although in comparison to Julie James’ characters these guys are like amateurs lol). But it was super fun regardless and got me out of a reading slump so for that I am grateful!
