I've read a lot of books by this author because of his fascinating originality and mastery of language but Memorial is, perhaps, my favorite. The plot has similarities to Nabakov's Lolita but this, IMO, is a much better book (and I realize that, for many, that's sacriledge).

Stuart is a seriously underappreciated 20th Century Irish writer and many of his novels are absolutely 1st rate. Unfortunately, they are also almost all out of print.
