A collection of six short stories by Drew Brown. Take a macabre journey from the Colorado wilderness to a Victorian cemetery and meet toads, robots, ghosts and grave robbers along the way. Toadlickers – Two college kids get more than they bargained for in a quest for free drugs... The Washroom – Secrets are explored in the Bloomington College Hospital washroom... and four more tales of horror.
Although this book is short, it took me a while to get through. The stories were not intriguing enough on their own to keep me flipping pages. There were some intriguing ideas with monstrous frogs, robots, and graverobbers, but the stories needed more length. I found the stories to be too short to include all of the setting, characterization, plot, and theme that I wanted from them. There were also a lot of spelling errors, which was distracting. This book would have easily been three stars with a bit more editing. With a lot more work put into it, these stories could easily become five stars.
Good stories, I think the best is the first in the book. I really liked that one, the one about the Toads, then again, I liked the Robot one also. I would have been tempted to rate it a five, but the truth is that one or two of the stories fell a little flat to me. Still, if you like horror and the macabre, this is worth the read for you. I read it all in about three hours, maybe two hours of reading and hey, it's free so no complaints here!
Six very (very) short horror stories that were good due to their really off beat plot lines which made them so interesting. Actually the story titled "Harry Wilson's Dad" was more poignant than scary. All in all a good collection. Regrettably, I'm not interested in reading the author's previewed novel "Last Hope" because if I hear one more thing about zombies, I'm gonna start sucking brains just out of frustration.
It was ok. Some of the stories were interesting, but not at all scary. The stories are definitely short, so reading them during short breaks in the day is pretty easy. OK for someone who doesn't want to be too scared to sleep.
Drew' s tales, although not great, held my interest and captivated me till the end of the book. The stories therein are original and ambitious, told not in a language difficult to decipher, but in an easy, relaxed manner.
I really enjoyed this book! The stories are not very long, but definitely each keeps you very interested until the very, creepy end! I give this book and author thumbs up!!
I thought it was a good collection of short stories. My favorite was the one story in there that wasn't a scary story. It was the one with the robot. Good read.
