My Maid Invests in the Stock Market...and Why You Should, Too!

Rate this book
Once upon a time, Bo Sanchez was a poor missionary who received an allowance of P30 a day. There were days when he couldn’t afford to pay for a bus ticket to preach in a prayer meeting.

But in 1998, he transformed his life.

Today, he owns 12 small businesses, all running in auto-pilot, because he spends 90 percent of his time still doing missionary work.

He also learned how to invest in the stock market.

And he has never forgotten the true purpose of wealth—to love others.

In this inspiring yet highly practical book, you’ll read the fascinating story of how he helped three of his house helpers invest in the stock market and build their retirement fund. He’ll tell you how he taught them the 5-envelope system. He’ll explain how he painted a clear vision of their future in their minds.

In this book, you’ll learn his “4 Rules to Making Millions Thru the Stock Market”.

Bo believes that you can retire a multimillionaire by investing in the stock market. Because if his helpers can do it, you can, too.

This is a story of a Catholic preacher who taught his 3 maids and a driver to invest in a stock market as long-term investors. Eugenio Isabelo Tomas Reyes Sanchez, Jr. or widely known Bo Sanchez (born July 11, 1966) is an author, entrepreneur, preacher, celebrity and lay evangelist in the Philippines. He started preaching at the age of 13 and came up with his first book at 20. In 2006, he received his Ten Outstanding Young Men award from the government and he is the publisher of the religious magazine called “Kerygma.”

Last Saturday, my wife and I attended Sachez’s seminar based on this book. I have some stocks but I am not actively into trading neither long nor short term. We attended a similar seminar when we were about to leave the company where we met and married almost 20 years ago. However, this seminar was a lot clearer and easier to do. Thus, the title that even housemaids can invest on stocks. My wife is now saying that we will.

Although Sanchez says that he is not connected with CitisecOnline, the chairman of that company is his life mentor. Maybe Sanchez saw an opportunity to tie up his preaching ministry with the company and the end-result is a program they now call together as EIP or Easy Investment Program. Easy because all you have to do is to go to their website and be a long-term investor by depositing P2,000 (~US$47) on a monthly basis in a company of their choice. They promise that at that amount, there is a big chance of being a peso millionaire by 20 years.

The marriage between Bo Sanchez’s religious ministry and the company is a perfect fit. Sanchez started the morning with a prayer and talked about basically the contents of this book and introduced a young man, Mike who works for CitisecOnline and who obviously is not a prayerful person when he commented that those who do not want to go rich should might as well pray every day. Sanchez’s life mentor, who also did not refer to the Sanchez’s ministry in his talks, also talked endlessly about money and becoming rich. I mean, there is nothing wrong with getting rich but I just have a feeling that people will do everything to get rich even to the extent of using religion and that makes the whole thing a bit scary because of the intent. This reminds me of Matthew 19:24: ”Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

However, my wife says that we are doing this for our daughter. We will start putting money to this long-term investment plan and hopefully my daughter will continue when she gets to work after finishing college. It is just like saving for a rainy day. Anyway, as they always say, you put in stocks only the money that you can afford to lose and I think that makes a good amount of sense. The only question is that do we have such kind of money.

Just like Bo Sanchez’s maids, I also used to live in a paycheck-to-paycheck mode. Several years ago, I also experiences cases that whenever I get extra cash like 13th month pay or bonus, people in the province get sick or die. I remember my uncle was dying in the ICU of a hospital when I received a bonus from a company. Then an aunt died in time when another company handed out our mid-year bonus. There was just no choice but to help and I did it from the bottom of my heart. Also, Sanchez mentioned about “tithing” and that helping other people creates a feeling of abundance and that feeling directs richness to flow to our direction.

Luckily, I am now out of that paycheck-to-paycheck mode, because most of my aunts and uncles are already dead. I need to save so when I die, my nephews and nieces, who are not yet working, will not have to share with me their hard-earned salaries.

Overall, this is a nice book. Straightforward and it makes more sense than what I thought.

2012 Reading Challenge: Book #2

This was not part of my 12 Books to Read in 2012 but just like the recent book I read about Personal Finance, it drew my interest, too. It’s short anyway, and I manage to complete it in one seating. I downloaded the ebook from citiseconline.com for free. Yey, thanks!

For 3 years, I’m religiously investing a portion of my earnings to mutual funds alongside a life insurance that I think I need, but I don’t really want to use. I’ve open up a time deposit account, too. And also put my little other savings to different money machines. This is the least I can do to let my hard-earned money grow while I still don’t have time to start my own business.

Got this free copy upon visiting Bo Sanchez's website http://trulyrichclub.com/. I am no stranger to stock investing in fact, I have sufficient knowledge on how things work on stock market and still learning. I started buying stocks upon careful research on those companies that I picked, will add more shares regularly and is planning to do it for like 20 years. But, I'm actually considering "trading" despite being a busy person (who's not anyway?) because few of my friends told me that it's much profitable and I got curious how when it's entirely speculating. I also found out that in order to succeed on that, you must know technical analysis.

After finishing the book, I was like, Aha! so I'm walking on the right direction from the very beginning! LOL no but seriously, once I got a clear view on "trading", we will see. Now, this book was a good short read I swear Investing made easy! Do not be afraid to start at any time, ALWAYS tell yourself "I'll start anyway!" Remember: Success always favors the brave (but DO.NOT.EVER forget to arm yourself with knowledge!)

One important tip I learn from this book is, buy at reputable companies-set a target-and then sell when you reach that.

This book sums the steps on how to do two simple things. One is how to allocate your budget and two how to save your money properly. Once you understood the main thought of this book, the supporting ideas will act like gravy. Yes the ideas are simple and yet they are branching to one another. It's a nice short book. Quite easy to read and understand on one sitting. Provided with examples, suggestions and likely scenarios for the readers to visualize on how the written statements work in real life. Moreover, it allows you to do the math in your head; not just on how to do it but on the best way to do it. Recommended for anyone who wants to start saving money and wants to retire a millionaire.

This book deserves a 5 star rating! If you totally have no idea about the stock market this book is the perfect place to start. It's completely easy to understand and entertaining too. :) I'm sure after reading it you will be convinced to invest in the stock market (like me!).

Bo Sanchez is really amazing. When I read his books especially his Kerygma magazines it's as if he's right there talking to me and telling me exactly what I need to hear. :)

You'll finish reading the book in 1 hour. The book talks about his maid at the beginning. But later on, the maids will be gone from the picture, because he'll shift the story to his friends and give advice that are easy and nothing new.

The book is full of advertisement about "TrulyRichClub", a paid membership club which he owns and promises to give regular advice on Philippine stocks.

I don't recommend this book. Better spend your precious bucks on others.

If you're looking for a book that will make you understand about the scheme in investing in stocks, then this one is for you. Bo has a way of making beginners grasp stock investment. It includes his personal choice of online stock broker and companies he himself invests in. He also give directions for start ups. Pretty much helpful if you're still new and nowhere to start. However, if you're looking for books delving more on stock investments, this does not cover much.
Totally recommended for those who wants to really know what stocks are and where to start.

I've learned a lot from reading this book. It's explicitly narrated and very helpful to those who have no idea how to start investing. Like me, I am clueless on how/what/where do I start in buying stocks but with the help of this book, I have been enlightened about the stock market. I am so thankful for this book for encouraging me to take risks and aim higher. Now, I don't just save my money, I use it to earn more. ;)

Finished this book in almost an hour. It will motivate you to invest in the stock market and to realize that discipline is important in reaching your financial goals.

What I didn't like about it is that it was advertising a lot about the Truly Rich Club that will guide you in your stock market journey but there is a monthly fee. I think I'd rather learn more about the stock market rather than have someone tell me what and when to buy or sell.

I think the book has very clear explanation of some of the most simple investing principles. And it is a very short read. The only reason I reduced the ratings is that after around 60% of the book, the author starts promoting his own other sets of books, websites and so on. I just wanted a book that explains basic principles and not the advertisements!

I was browsing through my e-books and just saw this one. Quick read just to remind me why I invested in stocks in the first place. A great book to share with anyone you know who don't have any idea about investing. This book is not too technical that's why it is great for beginners.

A colleague recommended this to me and I am so glad I read it. My only regret is I didn’t discover this sooner. It’s very informative and persuasive. It’s simple yet very direct to the point. I recommend this to everyone who wants to start going into stock market.

Title pa lang, nakaka-curious na.
