The civilization of ancient Egypt continues to cast its spell across the millenia. This is undoubtedly due to the astonishing architectural, artistic, and technological achievements of that culture, as well as its advanced system of writing and the quality of its literature. An international team of scholars has come together for this book in order to present the extraordinary high legacy of ancient Egypt in all of it's many aspects. The chronological span is from prehistoric times to the Greco-Roman period. Besides the great achievements in architecture, sculpture, and painting, the authors cover many individual topics relating to the state, society, and religion. More than 800 photographs, maps, and diagrams give visual immediacy to the highly informative text, bringing that vanished world in all its complexity vividly to life.
interesting alternative to the usual chronological analysis and quite straightforward explanations, however i found the format a bit distracting and dispersive.
This book is huge and seriously heavy - hell, it's monolithic! I have been reading a lot about Egyptian history and mythology recently, and I was looking for a nice book that covered everything chronologically with full-color photos. Lucky for me I ran into this beautiful monster of a tome at a second-hand shop. Bought it for 8€ - a steal! I am very content with the content.
