The Complete Vegan Kitchen "Overall this is one of the best vegan cookbooks I have read." ?Famousveggie.com "Vegan eating is a truly indulgent way of life, as vegans regularly partake of the very best foods?the most nutritious, appealing, and tasty?that nature has to offer. . . . A well-crafted vegan plate offers a festival of flavors, textures, and colors that makes every meal an aesthetic celebration." ?Jannequin Bennett " The Complete Vegan Kitchen is a most informative, upbeat, and useful vegan cookbook. Jannequin Bennett's talents as a chef shine through every recipe, from comfort foods to adventurous culinary creations. The powerful nutrition information in the first forty pages alone is worth the price of the book!" ?Neal D. Bernard, M.D., president, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine " The Complete Vegan Kitchen is extraordinary. It's appropriate that Carl Lewis introduced this cookbook because the recipes deserve a gold medal!" ?Eric Marcus, author, The New Ethics of Eating
Some good recipes fairly simple lots of intro for new vegans and good info for existing vegans However lots of dips and condiments. Some good soup recipes including cold ones. A lot of the condiments are easy to find vegan but good if you want to make it all from scratch. Lots of sauces and bread recipes also. A well rounded book with many options. Some neat snack options and ways to hide veg on kids.
I'm new to Veganism, and this book is an excellent resource for recipes. I am not a good cook. This book makes it easy to make delicious food. My husband was very impressed with the spinach and mushroom quesadillas (with no cheese!). I also made the dirty rice which was delicious. I like how this book also gives insight into the different foods before going into the recipes. For example, it will discuss all the grains and list recipes by each grain. It is always on my kitchen counter.
really liked the vegetable section! Also there were a lot of explanations that were really helpful! Not a fan of the substitution sections, instead of using soymilk, would rather just read a recipe that doesn't use milk of any sort, because if it's supposed to be using milk, it's not going to taste right/have the right texture. But I can see where if you're a vegan you'd want to still try, I guess...
I appreciated the nutritional information about how a vegan diet lacks certain nutrients that will need to be made up for in supplements. Good recipes with a range of complexities and ethnicities. It also includes a section of fun vegan foods for kids. Tonight for dinner I'll be making the lentil spaghetti, Italian bread with tuscan white bean spread, and brownies for dessert. All recipes from this book!
This book is really helpful and thorough, but many of the recipes are beyond my means. So, "from Easy to Elegant" is accurate. It still seems like a book every vegan household (and others) should have.
I just bought this cookbook and it's quickly becoming one of my favorites. I particularly enjoyed the pasta ribbons with cabbage and apples recipe which we made with sweet sauerkraut. The pita bread and scone recipes were also good.
