L.J. DeLeon took my image of the paranormal and spun it on its axis. In her sweet and enchanting novella Absolution, readers will be delighted to find a supernatural world filled with exciting creatures and an oh-so-sexy story. In DeLeon’s magical world there’s never a dull moment as she twines a tale of adventure, true love, hope, and redemption. The author takes us on a whirlwind journey of sacrifice that will leave you weak-kneed and hot for more. At first I was skeptical, unsure of where this story would lead me over the course of just a few hundred pages. Nevertheless, soon after I started I found myself engrossed in the characters, the plot, and the mystery and thinking to myself, “why haven’t I discovered her novellas before?”
Our main characters, Lucan and Allana, are woven together by a bond neither of them expected but both craved. Each is riddled with their own self-doubt, tortured pasts, and agendas, desperately searching for someone or something to save them. Over the course of the novel I enjoyed peeking into their lives and observing them as they came to terms with their prospective pasts in order to find their way to each other. Allana had a gentle yet courageous demeanor. As a healer her words flowed from the page like a melody, even and rhythmic, in a sing-song dance. It was beautifully written and part of the reason I fell in love with this story. The other yummy reason rests with Lucan, a Druid with a tear-jerking past. He is first and foremost a warrior, a mighty protector on the verge of self destruction. Throughout the novel we see Lucan’s touching transformation. It might make you melt; it will definitely make you swoon. And when he and Allana finally manage to come together, you can count on being swept away by their tender romance.
Overall, Absolution is a novella that will get you excited about love. It’s an enjoyable read you won’t even realize is over until you’ve reached the last page and are secretly wishing there was more. With its mixture of adventure, mystery, secrets, battles, and steamy love scenes, Absolution has something every paranormal fan can and should adore. My only complaint is that I did not read the two previous novels Warriors Rise and Dragon Child. It was a little jolting at first trying to sort out the characters and creatures, but once I understood the gist of the back story, I couldn’t have put this book down if I tried.
The writing style, Orginality and world setting is just as the 1st 2 books of this series... completely awesome. The fast paced plot and suspence of not knowing whats happening next will keep you turning the pages. The characters were bulit so believeable, you can get attached to them and their story. Overall this was a great book to add to this series. It does not disappoint, and I can not wait till the next book!
The druid Lucan Woods considered his soul lost and his life meaningless after having to be the one who killed his best friend after a failed assassination attempt on the Cáidh Arm. After completing this final mission, Luc intends to end his guilt and eat a bullet. Alanna is the missing Fae princess that has just learned her twin daughters are still alive and living among the humans on Earth. She is also the only reason Luc is still among the living and his only chance at redemption. Luc must let go of his guilt and accept the soul bond or both he and Alanna lose their chance at happiness.
Wow!! I have been immersed in this series for awhile now and I am not ready to let it go. In fact I had to create a series rating based on how much I LOVED this series. I am a series slut, no doubt, no arguments. But I only have a hand full that I would be willing to sell my child for. (said child is 29 and not very sellable). For those few series, I have created the diamond standard as you can see at the top of this post. When I designate a series a diamond series, you know that I give this my highest recommendation and will run over the elderly and small children to get first crack at it.
L.J. DeLeon has created a world on the verge of a supernatural war with factions from every myth, realm and religion. She has given the reader FANTASTIC heroines, who are strong, yet compassionate, intelligent but always willing to learn from others, and some of the fiercest warriors anywhere. Her heroes are dominant, strong, incredibly sexy but damaged men who love as hard as they fight and are loyal to their core. The war they are fighting is massive and losses are enormous. The lines between good and evil shift several times and the players are not always who and what they seem. With a story that often brings as much heartache as smiles, this series has a long, long, long way to go before I am even partially sated. Brava and kudos on a job extremely well done.
In book 3 of the Warriors for Light series, LJ Deleon weaves a heartfelt tale between two tragic heroes from her world of the Warriors for Light. Fae princess, Allana, stolen at birth and forced to suffer at the hands of the Dark Lord now seeks the daughters hidden from her since their birth. Her path intersects the battle-scarred and soul-tortured druid, Lucan, from book one. For Lucan, life holds only the final fulfillment of his responsibilities before he ends the misery of a life without everyone he has ever loved. Both characters are so intent on their personal missions, a distraction from the emotional pain they can't combat, that they almost bypass each other in the night. Almost--because fate has determined that these two wronged people are destined to right each other.
This is a lovely, moving story about two damaged souls, who not only help heal each other, but grow in the short space of this book to become individuals of strength and value to everyone around them. Dreams they had both given up on long ago.
I enjoyed Allana for her sweet and gentle temperament. As a healer, she can't quell the impulse to help those in need. And like ying to her yang, Lucan's druid abilities, somewhat unused given his soldier roll for the war against the Dark, leap forward to seek a path to save his mate and help heal himself.
The first two books in the series were fast paced, each unique in their own fashion. Absolution hits that mark again, with a story that is true to the mystical world Ms. DeLeon has built, and yet unique in its gentle message of hope and restitution between two magical beings borne of the need to serve and protect.
The love story is well developed and the finale surges past heart stopping moments to provide that great `ahh' feeling. The secondary characters are wonderfully entertaining, with the reappearance of my favorite gargoyle, Fritz. As well as the addition of a new demon--fiend or friend--you decide.
The Warriors for Light saga takes a slight turn. Druid Lucan Woods is assigned to find Princess Allana, the princess exchanged at birth with Moira, the heroine of Dragon Child, while also undercover in a purported human supremacist cell whose leader may not be what he seems. Allana is a healer who has lived most of her life in hIfreann, but is searching for her twin daughters, stolen from her at birth. Luc feels suicidal because he had to kill his mentor/father figure, who was infected by a seed that threatened the leader of the Army of Light. Allana has connected with this wounded warrior on a psychic plane and saved his life already, now they must save each other if both hope to achieve their goals. Neither counts on love burrowing its way into their hearts.
DeLeon is a whiz at creating characters who each speak with individual voices. She has populated her world with Fae, angels, demons, gargoyles and humans of various stripes, many of whom are not what you would expect them to be. She keeps you guessing because the demon you thought was a villain may turn out to be quite heroic by book's end. The battles in Absolution are more personal than in Warrior's Rise and Dragon Child because DeLeon has chosen to keep the story focused on the growing relationship between Luc and Allana more than the overall War for the Light, but this gentle story of redemption is a worthy, well-written and satisfying continuation of the Warriors for Light series.
Absolution is a shorter book than the first two in this series. I liked it ok, though it was not the story I was expecting it to be after the ending of Dragon Child. There were a few parts of the story that didn’t make sense to me, though I’d have to say I liked this one almost as much as I did Dragon Child. However, this story is about a whole new enemy. I was hoping to find out more about the group they were fighting in the first two books, so it caught me by surprise. I wished that Luc and Allana’s story was more involved in the series plot arc, but it seemed like a sidebar.
On a positive note, there were a couple parts of this story that actually brought tears to my eyes. I won’t mention which ones, because you know I don’t like giving spoilers.
Absolution is a great book, almost like love at first sight. Both characters, Lucan and Allana, have been through so much, and yet are able to find each other, seems like a true fairy tale. This novel was the sweetest out of all the books;even among a war going on. This story shows us that with so much ugly going on in a world, you can always find the beauty if you look hard enough. I did a much more thorough review on my blog, www.readtomyhearts.blogspot.com I surely do hope DeLeon will give us more and more of this series because I look forward to being pleasantly surprised by the next books. If you are not sure about this series, I say do it! Definitely give this series, Warriors For Light, a shot. I feel like you will be glad you did!
Since I haven't read the previous books in the series I'm sure I'm not as invested in the characters as I could have been. Even jumping in with the third book I enjoyed it. It was a very original tale with lots of great characters. I had a little trouble believing that Lucan and Alanna felt such a strong bond before even meeting each other however. That aside, it was a sweet story. I was looking for something a little lighter to read since coming off of a rather stressful book and this was just what I was looking for. I'm interested in some of the side characters as well and would definitely like to go back sometime and read more about them.
