Sheikh Muhammad Ikram better known as S. M. Ikram, was a Pakistani historian, biographer, and litterateur. He was member of the Indian Civil Service which he joined in 1931. In 1947, when Pakistan emerged from British India, Ikram opted for Pakistan and served in the Civil Service of Pakistan. On July 1, 1966, he was appointed as Director, Institute of Islamic Culture, Lahore, a position he occupied until his death in 1973, at the age of sixty-four.
This is the best book on cultural history of Indian Muslims and is of high standard work of author.I have been awarded M.Phil degree on this book in 1991 from Urdu department, A.M.U.Aligarh and the same was published in the book form entitled"Mauj-e-Kauser ka Tanqeedi Mutala'h"in 1997.I did my D.Phil. on author entitled"Shaikh Mohd Ikram ---hayat Aur Khidmat" from the same university in 1993.The same work also has been published as "Ikram Namah" in 2010.For this purpose I spent three months in Pakistan from 16th May to 13th August, 1991 and visited Lahore,Karachi,Islamabad and Rawalpindi to collect materials regarding S.M.Ikram. I met also so many relatives of S.M.Ikram and his Bewa Mrs. Zaib Ikram.Now I am working as Associate Professor in the Department of Education in Languages, National Council Of Educational Research and Training(NCERT),New Delhi(INDIA).
