Erica, Megan, Jen and Serena are hoping for fun together before the serious future sets in. So when Jennifer wins a competition and the prize is a long weekend in New York for all four of them, it couldn't have come at a better time.
The weekend is full of surprises ans some unexpected romance.... By the time the plane touches London, some big decisions will have been made!
I was born in New Britain, Connecticut, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I also spent a year (5th grade) in Montgomery, Alabama, and a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan(8th grade). As a child, I always wanted to be a writer, but I had lots of other ambitions too. I wanted to be a teacher, a librarian, a movie star, the president of the United States, and a ballerina.
I didn't achieve all my goals. I never became a movie star, the president of the U.S., or a ballerina. But I've been a teacher and a librarian and most of all, a writer. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always kept a diary. I wrote poems, stories, plays, songs and lots of letters. Writing wasn't easy for me, but it felt natural and right.
I've always read a lot, too. I was an English major at Emory University (I love Shakespeare), and I also received a master's degree in library science at Emory. I earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago, and I taught children's and teen literature at St. John's University in New York for over 20 years. Now, I'm a full-time writer, living in Paris, France - the most beautiful city in the world.
This was a fun, quick read. This is just what I needed after reading a fantasy novel as this was a quick, lighthearted contemporary novel.
The novel follows four friends who win a trip to New York. We get to see each of the girls and follow their stories. The stories were all cute, lighthearted stories and they all involved romance. One girl loved to shop, one loved art and wanted to visit the museums, one wanted to meet celebrities and the other wanted to meet the person they had been speaking to online. All the girls ended up meeting their perfect guy.
The stories were very predictable but it was a lighthearted read and just what I needed. I really liked the characters as they were all very different although similar to other characters in contemporary novels.
Four best friends are all about to go on the ride of their life as they receive the tickets of a lifetime. From Jennifer who is obsessed with Celebrities gets an insider's view when she finds herself hanging out with rock star Jordan Blake - though will she discover that just because he is a celebrity, it doesn't always make him a nice person. Megan has always been the spoilt princess of the group with having everything handed to her on a silver platter, what will happen though when she is presented with someone who won't put up with her rubbish and puts her in her place - will this turn her on ? Find out when Megan meets Officer Frank. Erica has been chatting to Danny online - on Friendspace. What will happen when the two of them meet and Erica discovers Danny lied about who he is really ? Find out in Marilyn Kaye's Ticket to Love - the perfect romance book to read this Autumn/Winter period in front of the fireplace.
Ticket for love is one of those girly fluffy reads which you can soak up in a matter of hours and leaves you with a bit of a warm glow afterwards.
The story follows a group of friends on a trip to new york. Whilst there they all have very different plans. One was to shop, one wants to take in the museums another want to celeb stalk and one wants to meet the boy she talks to on the internet.
The girls all have different adventures on their holidays all of which involve gorgeous perfect for them boys they meet whilst on their weekend in New York. While this is a little (ok a lot) contrived I enjoyed it nonetheless as that's what I was expecting from the moment I first picked up the book.
I enjoyed that this book was a bit of girly escapism. I enjoyed the relationships between the unlikley group of friends and enjoyed following their adventures even if they were a bit predictable
Recommended for teen girls who are love contemporary fiction ... definitely a bridging novel between YA novels and Adult Chick Lit
The book had a very 'Sex and the City' meets 'Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants' vibe. These friendship books with individual stories of each girl showing their romances really appeals to me which is why I enjoyed this.
Each girl had her own personality so it was easy to distinguish between them. They all had their own 'quirks' like fashion or stalking celebrities which made them easy to identify. I liked how different they were and yet their friendship was still so strong. I did, however, find they were very mature for their age and they could have been a lot older than they were.
The romances were done really well. Jen's romance had to be my favourite I think. Things weren't always easy in the romance department for the girls and there were lots of obstacles in the way!
Ticket to Love is a light fun read that will leave you with a happy feeling. Nothing super special but really enjoyable none the less!
ok, so i know this probably isn't meant to be a REAL book - it’s like the equivalent of a hallmark film, just flat and void of all character. but i still don’t see much point in plot twists that aren’t surprising. examples: feldman being a man, erica's bf being poor all along, jennifer falling for nick even though he’s not a celebrity, jordan being an asshole, serena being less attractive to her date after following jennifer's advice because it makes her lose all personality. that sort of thing. they're all super-cliches. but on the whole, the story gets much better as it progresses, and the storylines become more interesting. you start rooting for all the romances. i did only read this book because i was moving house at the time, and all my GOOD books were in boxes, but i don't regret reading it at all. it was actually kind of nice not to have to focus too hard on plot or anything. it was just fluff.

Megan, Erica, Jen and Serena are best friends although they are completely different; Megan is a shopaholic, Jen’s a celebrity stalker, Erica is hard working while Serena is shy and cultures. When Jen wins a trip to New York for the four of them they set off with their own agendas specific to these traits. However, they discover some unexpected things along the way.
Personally my favourite character was Serena, she was down to earth and honest. I didn’t like that Jen kept trying to change her, the narrative showed it wasn’t going to work from the very beginning.
This book is a fun, light-hearted, feel-good book although I did find the plot a little on the simple side and rather predictable. Although I will say that is made a nice light read that is different from my usual taste.
When I picked this book up it was because the author also wrote 'Penelope' a story I have great affection for. I found the first third hard to get into and I was frustrated with some of the language used in it. A lot of the things said were very cliche and it was even more common for characters to tell things about themselves rather than these things being shown clearly or ever implied.
Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on it: It made me laugh and thinking light, happy (slightly frustrated) thoughts and I enjoyed the experience of the book. It wasn't exactly something I can really see myself reading again, but hey! it was fun while it lasted.
I bought this book simply because I wanted a quick, light and easy read on the weekend. And that's exactly what I got!
Writing nothing spectacular, characters not fully developed, and a few cliches along the way (seriously, what are the odds of ALL FOUR girls meeting some guy?! lol...Bit ridiculous), but I didn't buy the book to feel 'inspired', I simply bought it to be entertained. There were some good messages at the end of the book though, especially regarding Serena - always be yourself! :)
Ticket to Love on keskivertoa chick-litiä nuorille. Kirjassa on neljä päähenkilöä, jotka ovat melko stereotypisia eivätkä kehity suuresti tarinan aikana (oma suosikkini oli ujo taideopiskelija Serena). Tytöt voittavat matkan New Yorkiin, joten luvassa on shoppailua, väärinkäsityksiä ja ihastumisia.
Marilyn Kayen kirja on kevyt ja juonenkäänteet ennakoitavissa. Etukannessa mainostetaan, että Ticket to love olisi Naughty, funny and honest, mutta oikeastaan kirja ei ole mitään noista. Omaperäisyyden puuttesta huolimatta tämä on mukava välipalakirja.
I really enjoyed this book, it's only the second novel I've read from Marilyn Kaye but the way she writes flows so well and quick and naturally that it's always so easy to get really stuck in to a book. The story was lovely, a great little romance and all the characters were nice too. It's hard to think of words to describe the aspects of this book, when I reflect on my feelings as I put the finished book down I feel content and pleased, it was a perfect happily ever after and a great pick me up book to read if you're feeling a little romantic.
I absolutely loved this book. I don't normally read these sort of romantic stories so I thought I'd try something new. It was a great story and a dream come true for some. It is about four friends who go to Manhattan to live their dreams after entering a contest from their favourite T.V. It is written from each of the girls points of view. An amazing book and I think I'll read some more by the same author.
A quick light read, it said on the front it was 'naughty funny and honest' and really, it was none of those things. It was boring at times, the plot was predictable and the characters were hard to sympathise with as they were somewhat cliche and unoriginal. It was quite immature and I felt like the book and the style of writing was very simple as if it had been written by a child. Overall I would not recommend it.
Erica was my favourite girl throughout the books, she was amazing and just being herself whereas Jennifer wasnt so sure where she was headed. Serena was so unusual, so odd and weird. And their other friend, forgot what her name was, Megan maybe...she was just horrible. I liked Erica, and im so glad that it ended with her too, she was happy and everything with Harry. It was a brilliant read!
Ticket to love is a sweet girly read that follows the story of an unlikely group of friends. Megan, Erica, Jennifer and Serena all jet away on a trip to the Big Apple. This story leaves you with a smile on your face. I enjoyed the relationships between the girls and their adventures with some gorgeous boys along the way.
The book was a very light read! It was very girly and fun, it defientely had a lot happening at the same time with the 4 girls which is why i think it was a bit overwelming but overall it was an ok read.
I love this book and just could not put it down. im not a fan of girly girly book about love but this is just right with a bit of mystery as well. I like how it follows 4 different girls and they all get something different and exciting out of the trip. just truly wonderful!
