Lonnie Fletcher and Seth Anthony Freeman have been best friends since birth. They are like brothers to each other. Lonnie and Seth did everything together until their junior year in high school, when they drifted into different directions, but they remained close with each other. When Lonnie comes out to Seth later in their junior year in high school, he thinks Seth is okay with his sexuality. But after a violent turn of events between them later on, Seth ends their friendship, leaving Lonnie devastated and heartbroken.

Fourteen years later, after ending an abusive relationship, Lonnie moves back to his hometown of Avery Row. Lonnie is surprised when he discovers that Seth has moved back to Avery Row from his best friend, Sheldon Jameson. During a heated confrontation at Lonnie’s mother’s house, Seth reveals a secret that shocks and angers Lonnie. Later on, at Lonnie’s apartment, Lonnie and Seth decide to make amends and repair their friendship. Then an incident happens between them that leaves Lonnie shocked and confused.

At their high school reunion, Lonnie is viciously attacked and is rescued by Seth. Several shocking events afterward transpire between them before another secret that Seth has been hiding from Lonnie for fourteen years is revealed, leaving Lonnie astonished.
