The One Who Would Be King

Rate this book
This BIG (6"x9") trade paperback is 372 pages with a map and a glossary. If you liked Harry Potter AND Lord of The Rings, you'll most likely LOVE this book! The goblin horde has arrived! Djar’s parents have been murdered, his city is occupied and things look worse every day. But there is one small If only he can reach the sorceress Dymorla. The only trouble is, she already has a plan of her own, and it includes snatching a boy from an alternate plane (Earth), and animating an army of undead heroes to fool a powerful group of zealots into helping. Now what could go wrong with that?

I've read this and the re-write (recently published). It was completely re-written and much improved! The author is now using his real name (I think?) and it is more adult - this one seemed young adult to me.

By the way, my paperback (this one) has a nicer cover so there must be different versions or a second printing as well!

The new book is called: The Goblin Invasion by Dan DeBono.

If you like this one, you'll love that one (better writing, pacing, characterization - all around a much better book). If you haven't read this one, skip it and get the better one. See my review of that one!

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway. I thought it was an ok book, needs some inprovement though. When I first got it even the cover put me off a little because it's not that great of graphics (even for the age range). I did enjoy the plot, but some places dragged a little where details got to overly talked about when they didn't seem that significant. And, for a younger audience, I think it might be hard for them to keep up with all the different locations and names. But, overall, it was an ok read.

I received this book as a giveaway from Goodreads. It was not my type of book. I'm not into fantasy-type books, but I can see where this might be interesting for the pre-teen to early teen readers. I will be passing it on to one of my grandkids who falls into that category and see what they say about it.
