Hommage à l'Ukraine
Під час повномасштабної російсько-української війни, французький письменник Еммануель Рубен запросив українських колег — чотирнадцятьох авторів та авторок — розповісти про свою Україну. Про її міста й села, місця та краєвиди, простори та людей, які тут творили. Про речі, які є символічними для українців та уособлюють те, що називається Домом. Так з’явилася збірка Hommage l’Ukraine — «Ода до України». Це книга есеїв, оповідань та віршів, які написані під час війни і в яких автори діляться своїми спогадами й відчуттями, радощами і тривогами, думками про те, як війна змінює рідні місця та сприйняття дому, та історіями, які показують Україну такою, як вона є. У цій збірці історії про 11 областей із 24 та про Крим.

Читала український варіант, з дуже гарною обкладинкою з тисненням. Загалом сподобалась ця збірка оповідань, хоча було декілька які, як на мене, ні в тин ні в ворота. Найбільше вразив есей Рафеєнка про Донецьк, трохи плакала над ним. Багато болю, але також любові до рідних місць. Чудово, що цю книгу видали французькою, хоч хто його знає чи зрозуміють там щось французи. Це дуже тепло і щемливо саме для нас. Також там представлені найрізноманітніші куточки України, тож ви точно знайдете щось що йойкне в серці саме у вас.

A rare case of a book about Ukraine that was written originally not in Ukraine and not in the Ukrainian language. French writer Emmanuel Ruben who supports Ukraine very much and has an interest in its culture and history (his first novel was “Halte à Yalta” (2010)), at the beginning of the war-2022, asked several Ukrainian writers to share their thoughts about their favorite locations in Ukraine. He wanted to create a mental map of Ukraine — not in the geographical sense but in the sense of personal roots and cultural significance. He invited some of our most well-known and respected modern authors, and thus “Hommage à l’Ukraine” appeared (published in France in the French language). Later, it was “back-translated” into Ukrainian and published here (in a very beautiful edition).
I like the whole idea and many of the essays. It depends on your personal tastes and feeling of closeness to certain authors, of course. So my impressions will probably be different from the impressions of other people. However, I consider this book an awesome (albeit short) exploration of our country, very important and very necessary for us, especially today, during the war, when we are painfully aware of the vulnerability of every one of these places, even the littlest ones. The collection reflects the most valuable characteristic of our society: we are “decentralized”; we love and appreciate different places and aspects of our country/culture and try to be grateful to all of them. We are learning about ourselves through such different points of view, and we gradually fall in love with every corner of our land. And, of course, such collections of short stories are a perfect way to discover new to you authors and make acquaintance with their writing styles and personal interests.
My favorite essays here were by Катерина Бабкіна (somewhat strange at the beginning but creating a good poetic metaphor at the end), Володимир Рафєєнко (about his lost home, Донецьк), and Андрій Любка (unexpectedly fascinating reportage about modern Ужгород, about which I knew nothing before). Almost everything else was moderately interesting, but I strongly disliked two essays — guess whose? — Артем Чех and Тарас Прохасько )). Yes, I definitely have a serious idiosyncrasy for these two guys. The story by Артем Чех was, as with everything in his writing, disgusting (disgusting people doing disgusting things), and I did not even understand how this story is related to the subject of the book (there are three paragraphs talking about something like “land of my childhood” but this mentioning was so secondary to the whole story that I did not even notice it at first). The essay by Тарас Прохасько was about a theoretically interesting subject but written in this characteristic vague and flamboyantly empty style that I hate (seriously, what all this shit is about? “…крізь тунелі букових лісів (вони роблять своєю широкою висотою напівпроникні для світла оболонки, які тримаються на блискучо-білій гладенькій колонаді стовбурів, що вчепилися зовнішніми виростами коріння у багаторічну листяну підстилку вічної кольорової осені)…” — oh no, not my brain!).
Anyway, I liked this book and I am happy to have it on my bookshelves now. I would love to read something else like this about our country. I think it’s a very delicate and precious way to remind us what we are all fighting for in this war.

Книга - втіха та тихе задоволення. Тихе - бо в книзі не літають ракети, не гуде сирена повітряної тривоги, не гремлять новини (в книзі є і винятки, але це ок, бо кожний хоче розказати про своє, і без цього книжці б бракувало). Збірка наповнює душу ностальгійними думками та бажанням приїхати в місця та регіони, про які йде мова, та побачити їх очима, відчути душею.
Майже в кожній історії відчувається сильна любов автора до місця оповідання, навіть якщо через світлий сум.
Чудово! Україна все витримає і стане ще сильнішою і гарнішою!

J'ai aimé cette initiative de réunir des histoires écrites par des écrivains ukrainiens en ce temps de guerre. D'abord, j'admire leur courage d'écrire "sous tension" du danger et de l'incertitude totale que provoque cette guerre immonde. Puis je suis ébloui par la beauté des histoires, qui m'ont fait découvrir leur pays à travers l'amour que portent ces auteurs à leur pays, l'Ukraine !

Ідея книги дуже сподобалась. Деякі есеї більш вдалі, деякі менш торкаються душі. Однак щемкість почуттів письменників, їхні обережні і щирі описи рідних місць, заставляють поринути в різні закутки нашої чудової країни. Запам'яталася історія про домівку Люби Якимчук, близький і далекий ніким "незнаний" Ужгород Андрія Любки і вічні й філософські описи Тараса Прохаська. Чудова майнд мандрівка українськими містами, стилями, типами мислення. Безперечно гідна рекомендації

Деякі есеї відгукнулися мені більше, інші менше. Особливо відмітила для себе Володимира Рафєєнка, Олександра Михеда та Петра Яценка - їхні тексти та стилі справили сильне враження. Тепер хочу познайомитися й з іншими їхніми творами.

Ох і погойдає ж вас на емоційних гойдалках.
Вам щемитиме десь всередині, ви будете злитись і радіти, будете погоджуватись і обурюватись, ви будете плакати і посміхатись.
Патріотичних почуттів книга в мене не викликала, а деякі автори висловлювались таким чином, що
хотілось закрити їм рота.
Книга була створена для французького ринку і вона точно не стане рекламним буклетом України.
Вам щемитиме десь всередині, ви будете злитись і радіти, будете погоджуватись і обурюватись, ви будете плакати і посміхатись.
