Anna was the hardest to connect with for me. I’ve read an entire book from her perspective and yet still have no understanding of who she is. She didn’t have a clear voice and wasn’t believable. She came off as unemotional and I just couldn't feel for her. When she couldn’t get back into her body, for example, Anna says “pure, raw panic rolls over me like a tsunami.” But the author never made me feel that panic, she just left it at that. Simply telling me a character feels a certain way doesn’t make me believe it, you need to show me that emotion and make me feel it too. This was a major problem for me, and it was consistent throughout the book. She never felt like a real person to me and I never managed to connect with her so I never really cared about her character or what happened to her. Rei was far too perfect, almost annoyingly so. He is extremely smart, attractive, and good at pretty much everything. I can’t relate to a character like that, no one is without flaws. He was caring and very considerate of Anna, which got him a few brownie points, but overall his character was flat and kind of boring. It wasn’t until I got towards the end that he ever felt like a real person to me, at which time he did start to grow on me a little though . Taylor was the most realistic character in the book oddly enough. I may not have liked her but I still felt for this girl more than any of the others. She is the only one who had any real depth or complexity. She had more than just one side to her unlike the rest of the characters.
I really did like Auracle, I thought it was very sweet and had the cutest ending, I just didn’t love it but if you’re looking for a unique and light read then it’s a definitely great choice.
