Roger Hargreaves was a British cartoonist, illustrator and writer of children's books. He created the Mr. Men series, Little Miss series and Timbuctoo series, intended for young readers. The simple and humorous stories, with bold, brightly coloured illustrations, have sales of more than 85 million copies worldwide in 20 languages.
Mr. Bounce could be named Mr. Rubber. He does end up in a Tennis match at one point. Mr. Bounce is one of the more healthy people in this world. He knows he has a problem and so he decides to go see a doctor to help him. More people in this world need to see doctors of all kinds. The doctor is a good one and does have a way to Mr. poor Mr. Bounce. I wonder if he is friends with Mr. Small, they are close to the same size.
I read this to the nephew and he kept shouting out answer to the questions the book asked. He mostly knew what was going to happen. He gave this 5 stars and he said he loved it.
Here I am sitting at the Victorian/South Australian border uploading a book review to the internet (I didn't write it here, I did that beforehand, I just wanted to upload the book review on the border since we can access the internet almost anywhere these days – well, not 30000 ft in the air, but I did say almost anywhere). Well, I'm on my way back to Melbourne (by car) and while I was in Adelaide I found all of my old Mr Men books sitting in the back shed, so I thought that I might look at them again and write some reviews on them (since they are books, and I have read them – quite a few times in fact – they were some of my favourite books as a child).
So, three minutes after picking this book up I had finished it and was ready to write a review. Well, since it is so short I guess I won't be marking it as one of the books that I have read in 2016 (it would be cheating a bit, though some may argue that it is a book, even if this book consists of a grand total of thirty six pages, of which only half of them actually have words on them – the other half have pictures). Well, to me, reading a book that takes me three minutes to complete, even if it is a book within the general definition, isn't much of a challenge.
For those who don't know the Mr Men books are a collection of children's books that tell stories about rather odd individuals, in this case somebody named Mr Bounce. As you can probably expect Mr Bounce has a problem in that he can't stop bouncing everywhere. In fact he bounces so much he even gets mistaken for a tennis ball (he is also quite small). So he decides to go and see a doctor, but all the doctor can come up with are some heavy boots, which he wears, but these end up causing another problem, but to tell you what it is would be a spoiler.
I guess there isn't much else I can say about this book (or feel that I can say about it) so I guess I will leave it at that. Still, as I mentioned, I loved these books as a kid so expect to see other reviews pop up from time to time.
Constant bouncer Mr. Bounce finds elastic like qualities too my of a headache, especially as he keeps hitting the ceiling in his own home.
Deciding to visit a doctor to help solve his problem, our little protagonist gets mistaken for a tennis ball during the journey!
This is one of the funnier stories in the series, including the Doctor's name Dr. Makeyouwell. Whist Mr. Bounce might've been cured, he still forgets himself first thing in the morning.
Mr. Bounce was always one of my favourite Mr. Men, with his uncontrollable boinging every which way and getting mistaken for a tennis ball. The thing that always fascinated me was how he managed to keep his hat with him all the time. It clearly isn't attached by elastic or the like. I have come to conclusion that it must be a magic hat that returns to its wearer much like Thor's hammer. Not a bad trick!
Mr. Bounce as the cover art suggests is the size and color of a tennis ball. He also bounces like a tennis ball. In fact, he bounces so much that it's interfering with his quality of life. What does a little yellow man who is too bouncy do? He goes to his doctor of course.
My son likes this particular Mr. Men story because Mr. Bounce is a ball and later he's a ball with big heavy shoes. Sean knows of another ball with shoes, namely, Kirby. When playing Melee and Air Ride, yellow is one of the options for Kirby. So it makes perfect sense to Sean that Mr. Bounce is actually a yellow Kirby.
Ah, Mr Men and Little Miss, how wonderful you are!
These books made up so much of my childhood. No matter what I would go ahead and pick one up. I worked my way through them all a couple of times. Each one has a wonderful story for the child to engage with, each character being fun to read.
Everyone has a bias for their favourite character, yet every book is delightful.
Think I’m right in stating that as a boy I had all the pre-1990 Mr Men books with the possible exception of “Mr Snow”. Looking at all the covers apart from the latter jogged my memory.
Sadly I remember little about the stories now, despite reading them numerous times during my boyhood, plus watching the Mr Men cartoons more than once.
Reckon the last time I would’ve read these was 1983, though may have returned to them as late as 1985. Although I’ve forgotten almost everything about this title and all the others I feel that owing to the amount of times I read each publication that they all deserve to be rated five stars.
I’m grateful to Roger Hargreaves for brightening up my childhood with both his Mr Men and the Timbuctoo series of books.
Not one of the strongest tales in the series, but a fun read anyway.
Mr Bounce's problems would seem obvious to most people, but avoiding tennis courts would seem to be a no-brainer, especially according to my kids!
Is there a darker subtext at work in here? Mr Bounce is a livewire, who despite daily tribulations is happy enough. His real problems start when he goes to visit the doctor to seek help.
The doctor provides a prescription of something heavy to weigh him down. However instead of a chemical cosh, he prescribes heavy shoes, which the fashion police must surely have an APB out on!
Even this apparent solution doesn't prevent more trouble from striking Mr Bounce!

I absolutely loved these Mr Men and Little Miss books. I remember getting them from my granny every week. There was so much from these simple characters, I remember filling my little bookshelf with all these books making sure I had got them all in right order. I wish I still had these books but somehow most of them got lost with many house moves or my mum gave the rest away. If I ever have kids, I will make sure they get the chance to experience these wonderful, colourful books.
I've read this about 10 times this month (which is why I feel like I can add it to my read books) at placement. Children pick this out quite often so guess it's quite a good story for children. I don't feel as it if it would give an older child a good outlook on life though as he falls in the end but I think it's about keeping trying so I guess it's okay haha :D I've given it 4 stars because I don't know how to honestly rate a children's book but not many children get bored of it.
Mr Bounce is having difficulties in life due to his extreme bouncey-ness. He goes to the doctor seeking a solution, and the doc just so happens to have a teeny tiny pair of weighted shoes in his medicine cabinet that are exactly Mr Bounce's size. (That doctor must be ready for EVERYTHING)! Wearing the shoes everywhere appears to solve the bouncing issue, but it seems rather unhygienic to wear them in bed as Mr Bounce does...
Mr. Bounce, being fed up of bouncing everywhere, finds a solution. First, however, he gets mistaken for a tennis ball, but that's all in a day of life for Mr. Bounce.
