Before Copernicus, Galileo was jailed and Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake for stating that Earth revolves around the sun. Copernicus knew they were right, but hesitated for thirty-six years before daring to print his observation. His books were listed on the church’s Index of banned books.
This was one of the better biographies on Copernicus. Though some of Kersten claims may not be factual. Like was Copernicus really born at 4:48 pm on Feb 19? That he died with his published manuscript in his arms has since been refuted. All the same it was an engaging read.
