Is love really blind? What will you do for love? Kara Butler arrives in Bretherton, a small sleepy seaside town where nothing much happens. Then Kara meets a man, falls in love and her life is set to change forever. She embarks on a road of obsession, lust, betrayal and finally murder. Bretherton will never be the same sleepy seaside town again.
Cindy Vine is an author, mother of three kids, with lots of life experiences she uses as an inspiration source to write her books about. She is a teacher and uses her teaching qualifications to travel around the world teaching.
First thing I have to say is that I absolutely HATED Kara. I know the girl had some issues at home, but she was so STUPID. She was an immature brat and needed to die. The way she kept going back to Kemp was sickening. It was like she couldn't do anything for herself other than be his sex toy. She kept saying she wouldn't be a doormat for any man and yet she definitely was for Kemp. Even when he lied to her and treated her like crap she went back and was absolutely certain he was her one and only.
Other than hating the main character, I enjoyed this novel. It was set at just the right pace to keep me interested. I did get a little confused as to how long it took for Kara and Kemp's relationship to jump off. While I read it, I thought it was merely a matter of days, but later the book said she had already been in town for two weeks. That's really my only "dislike", not being able to tell even approximately when things took place.

What I love most about this book? No matter how you expect it to end you'll be shocked when all your ideas are for naught. This story haunts you long after you finish it and you don't know exactly how to feel about the outcome, which keeps you thinking. You feel so many different emotions for the individual characters it's simply astounding.
Cindy Vine is an excellent writer and I cannot wait to read more from her. This book had it all; murder, mayhem, insanity, phobias, abuse, manipulation. It's a feast of the worst qualities that makes people so vulnerable and you get an idea of just how dangerous the human mind can be when pushed to the limits. This is a true must-read book! It will leave you with your jaw hanging open at the end.

I want to start this quick review by stating that I don't normally read books like this, so I began reading with a bit of hesitation. As soon as I opened the first page however, the story line unexpectedly grabbed me by my shirt collar and yanked me within its pages. I immediately felt compassion for the protagonists, and was quite devastated when the mother of the young girl sacrificed her well being for her daughter's freedom. I did feel that the story got a bit predictable a couple of times, and when the dramatic events did occur, I found myself rather nonchalant about the whole thing. This is a great book for young adults, but I feel that older generations might enjoy something a little different.
As a side note, I originally wanted to give this book 4 stars. Unfortunately, the amount of typos strewn around the book was quite distracting.
I will have to say that this book isn't somthing i usually read. But i love to have something different sometimes. This book i thought was going to be slow and stupid but i found myself actually liking the story. From the very beinning of the book i liked it. And i felt compassion for Kara when her mother sacrified herself for Kara's safety, life, and happiness. Kara picks another place to move to, to escape her abusive step-father. After she moves to a new town and ends up liking this man. This is the only part of the book that ended up getting on my nerves. All her and his back and forth, on and off again relationship. She uses her sexuality to get someone else to do her evil bidding. Loved all the twists and turns and i can't wait to get another book like this in my hands.

A shocking thriller about degrees of manipulation set during the Apartheid; the protagonist, Kara, is a very naive and innocent 18 year old girl, who runs away from her abusive stepfather with the money her dead father left her. She chooses a new town to live in from her school Atlas, and life seems to be slotting into place for her there. However, manipulated and isolated by her infatuation with a married doctor, a man with a history of abusing and manipulating his wife, Kara becomes more unstable, in turn using her newly found sexuality to manipulate someone even more innocent and naive than herself to do her evil bidding. A very well written novel which makes you truly think about the human mindset and nature; would definitely recommend this book.
