Imagine a company where people are excited about coming to work and giving their best efforts every day. In this innovative and engrossing business parable, harry Paul and Ross Reck show managers at all levels how they can immediately and easily increase productivity by tapping into the discretionary effort of the people who work for them. Starting from the most basic aspect of business reality - that people intentionally regulate the amount of effort they put into their jobs based upon how they feel they re being treated - authors point out that the most important part of the job of every manager, team leader, supervisor and executive is to treat people in such a way that they become excited about applying all their discretionary effort toward performing their jobs. At the book s center is the story of Nancy Kim, a human resources director at a magazine that is struggling with all the problems associated with unhappy employees - low productivity and morale along with high absenteeism and turnover. After she openly challenges the CEO s new management-by-the-numbers system, she s charged with turning the situation around immediately. Filled with real-world studies, Destination Work! shows anyone how to turn the workplace into a destination- a place where working hard feels like hardly working because it s engaging, enjoyable and fulfilling.

A simple and easy to read book with out too many stories. The key messages are conveyed in a simple single story sticking to the basics of management. The key management terms are explained lucidly even to beginners .... I like the way it is written as it easily connects with the real problems & people. My learnings include: Be Real, Be Appreciative, Be Interested & Be Nice to everyone. Genuinely connect with the front line staff and see the difference that it can make to employee productivity and morale. A must read for people in management to reinforce the basics.
An interesting read! Destination Work applies everywhere in life not just your workplace, with your friends, with your relatives. It is just a fancier way of "treating people right", respecting the most important resource on this comples planet.

Simple,no nonsense and basic fundamentals are explained through a story. Everything mentioned in book are very basic skills and common sense, but common sense being a rare commodity in corporates, this book will be a great eye opener for existing leaders and a handbook for new leaders/ managers. Things mentioned in this book are really works just that it needs a great heart and logical brain for people to implement. I felt this as a handbook for all new managers !!!
This is a simple book, easy to read. Can be read in one day. The story line is however not very interesting, but the management tips are fairly decent. But not worth investing money and buying a copy. Too small to own and keep as a business manual.
I have read two or three books on management issues. but this book is in unique way because, he dealt the whole Management Issues with a single Story. It will always easy remember the values through story wise !!
