Phoenix Agency #1

Jungle Inferno

Rate this book
Book 1 in the Phoenix Agency series. For Faith and Mark, the telepathic connection they’d shared for years was nothing compared to the scorching physical connection they realized as adults. From the first moment they came together, “erotic” was too pale a word to describe their relationship. Together they explored each other’s deepest, darkest desires. But now Mark, survivor of an ambush to his Delta Force team, is a prisoner of a terrorist group in the Peruvian jungle, and his telepathic communication with Faith is his only contact with the world. While she searches for help to save him, they survive on dreams that take them beyond all sexual boundaries.

I absolutely love this book my favourite in the series, but all the others are pretty good too. The characters are just unforgettable, fierce personalities and them together? Fire all the way!! I have re-read this book countless times, always a pleasure to revisit Mark and Faith.

Jungle Inferno
Four and a half stars
The first in Desiree Holt's Phoenix Agency series, Jungle Inferno is a fast-paced paranormal romantic suspense. Ms Holt strikes an excellent balance between the characters' growing and passionate connection, and the evil conspiring to separate them permanently.

Mark and Faith discovered as children their share ability to communicate telepathically. Though their friendship matured with them and grew to include the understanding that they had found "the one" in the other, Mark's frequent and uncertain postings with Delta Force kept them from making a more permanent commitment.

Until the mission that went entirely sideways, leaving every member of his team dead and him captured and tortured by an irrational jungle warlord. Cut adrift from any possibility of rescue, Mark's only hope lies in his connection with Faith, and in her ability to track him down with the right help.

The Phoenix Agency includes some of Mark's friends and those he served with, and it's a race for them to rescue Mark before the torture finishes him off.

Ms Holt's story is exciting and inventive. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Action packed, emotionally gripping and edge of your seat exciting romantic adventure, one woman struggling against the world to save the one man she has always loved. She is the only one that can hear his cries for help and feel his pain.

Mark is a strong, smart and highly alpha male super solider trapped by a tarriest group after a mission gone horribly wrong. His only hope is his long time hidden physic link to his childhood sweetheart and the only woman he has ever loved. Faith is a highly successful author, sweet, sexy and desperate to save the man she loves and has been bound to since childhood at any cost. Loved every heart pounding action packed twist and turn.

This is a good book, which I have to be honest the way it opened up I thought it was going to be erotica and not a romantic thriller, but I kept at it and how wrong I was. I'm telling you this so that you hang on if necessary to get through the rest of the book and to the action.

When Faith, who is a telepath gets a message from her childhood friend, Mark, who is also a telepath she is shocked at what she hears and what she feels.

When Mark asks for her help she is determined to find him and get him out of whatever situation he's in. And that puts her in extreme danger. She finally gets in touch with Phoenix and they help her.

This is a fantastic book and I will definitely be reading the series!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good story. I really liked Faith and was hoping for her to get her happy ending.

Faith is an author and a pretty cool person. She's in love with Mark and has been since they were kids. They've had a psychic connection since their teens and have always had a special relationship because of it. When Mark entered the military, he told her to move on and live her life but (although she tried dating other men) she knew that for her it would only ever be Mark.

Mark is a soldier in the special forces. He cares for Faith and even says he loves her, but always puts his career first. Even when they finally admit their love and that she'll wait for him until he's ready he still wont marry her...thinking for some reason that he can't have both a wife and his career.

Mark is on a mission and captured. Almost all his men are killed and he's being tortured. He used his connection to Faith to try to get help. Unfortunately the terrorists that hold him captive has their own person with psychic abilities that keeps blocking Mark and Faith's communications. She gets patchy info and sets out to try to find out what Mark was working on and where he was last. Since he was special ops this doesn't work so well and she ends up rattling the wrong cages and almost ends up in trouble. Fortunately some unexpected allies help her out and they're able to save Mark and take out the bad guys. In the end, Mark and Faith are safe and have a HEA.

I enjoyed this story. The action plot wasn't perfect (a couple of the things both the bad and good guys did seemed stupid to me) but it was engaging. I really liked Faith and really liked the fact that the she gets to save Mark and save the day. I had my issues with Mark but overall this was a good story.

This is Book 1 in The Phoenix Agency series. Mark is in deep, serious trouble, worse than he’s ever been in before. His Special Ops team has been ambushed and killed while he’s been captured and tortured. There’s a telepathic connection between him and Faith, the love of his life. This has everything you could ask for in a book! Hot sex, hot Alpha Special Ops men, terrorists, action, adventure, oh and did I mention the hot men?! How can you lose when all this is in one book? I can’t wait to read more books about the Phoenix Agency. I voluntarily chose to review a copy of this book that I received from Netgalley.

What a page-turner! I enjoyed the characters--especially the Phoenix team. I wanted more from them, but only because they're hot military men. We got plenty of hot loving from Mark though. Vanilla love, love with toys, love in the shower....love, love, hot-smokin' LOVE! The ending wrapped up pretty quickly and very neatly (almost too much so) but I overall, I enjoyed the read.

Draws you in from the first page and holds your interest until the end. This is an intense, emotional action packed read full of surprises. The various twists and turns of the plot are intriguing and keep you guessing. The main characters are strong and well-written with a special bond that surpasses time. You can feel their deep connection and heartache as you read. This book is a great start to a new series and I cannot wait to read more and get to know the others from the Phoenix Agency.

Betrayed, captured, beaten and tortured Mark is determined to hold strong and not give his enemy the information they seek. Severely wounded, infection setting in, he turns to the one person he can…the first his heart and mind seek in solace to ease the pain and keep himself sane. While trying to relay pertinent information to aid in his rescue, he basks in the memories of his time with his childhood friend, the love of his life, recalling the happy moments and regret for all the time they have wasted over the years. Being uniquely gifted by having a psychic connection, they share snippets of conversation to help in finding him; he just has to hold on and give her time. He only prays he is strong enough and her determination will lead to his safety and returning him to her arms.

Out of the blue Faith receives a frantic message from Mark, crying out in pain and begging for help. Having been psychically connected since their childhood, she reaches out to him trying to gather the information and unravel clues to find him and bring him home. The problem is how and who can she trust to help. Digging into any information she can find and stepping on some powerful toes up the ladder in her quest for answers, she herself becomes a target. Connecting with the Phoenix Agency is her only hope for them both.

Dodging bullets, explosions and phantom pain from the connection they share Faith digs in deep and races with Phoenix at her side to save her love but time is running out. Will they reach Mark in time or will regret and heartache be in her future?

A re-release, this book has been revised and re-edited. I have read both versions and this one far surpasses the previous. The sizzling starts at the very beginning but quickly you will understand that it is a coping mechanism for Mark as he holds on to his love for Faith while a prisoner of arms dealers. The telepathic link he has always had with Faith is his only hope of rescue.

Faith on getting his message telepathically has to figure out a way to find where he is and get someone to help her save him. Not easy to do when you really don't want to reveal your unique connection. With another telepath on his end, Mark has to try to give her hints without giving away her identity. He calls her Tidbit, his nickname for her since school.

As Faith begins pulling strings to find him, the other side is trying to find not only her but another survivor of the ambush and eliminate them.
With her assistant Tess researching Spec Ops for what she believes is part of Faith's next book, Faith finally gets a lead. Joey Latrobe is in the hospital, he was part of Mark's team and he has a brother Eric. With the aid her computer wiz friend Andy she gets a number to contact Eric and starts leaving messages for him.

Annoyed yet curious Eric 'Rick' Latrobe, decides it's time to make contact with this author. With his brother safely out of harms way, he and his Phoenix team need to determine which side Faith is on as they try to find Joey's Captain, Mark Halloran.

The excitement revs up as the Phoenix team with the aid of Joey and Faith try to beat the clock as Mark's time begins to run out.

Plenty of extremely hot scenes and hold your breath action. These two definitely work for their Happily Ever After!

The Phoenix Agency Team will have you hooked with this book so you'll have to start the next one just like I am about to do!

Edge of your seat thriller with hot steamy romance

This was an amazing story of love, perseverance, military service, and espionage all rolled into one. Desiree Holt has hit a home run with this first book in the Phoenix series.
Faith and Mark discover in their ore to early teens they gave a psychic connection and their lifelong friendship turns into a deep love despite their young age. However they are both highly career oriented and motivated.
Mark joins the Army and Faith begins a successful writing career. The years pass with only one hot weekend of unimaginable sex to tide them over. Well that and their psychic connection and messages.
It’s been years since they’ve been together but when Faith gets broken psychic messages from Mark and her empathetic abilities rear them presence, Faith knows mark is in deep trouble and she is the only one who can get him the help he desperately needs.
Phoenix, a secret agency comprised of ex- Special Forces soldiers from every branch of the armed services is just what Faith needs to save Mark, but will they believe her? Even if they do agree to help, none of them can imagine how high the corruption goes that lead to Mark’s predicament.
Can they find Mark in time? Will those that have everything to loose if he is found even allow Faith to live long enough to get him the help he needs?
Read this book to answer those questions and more!

What an intriguing new series!!!

Faith and Mark have been friends since they were children. They have been able to "talk" telepathically since they were teenagers. They each realised that they were more than friends but neither wanted to lose their friendship. But eventually all the tension came to a head and they had one magical night as young adults. many years later they have a weekend rendezvous but again are torn apart by their commitments and their wariness of losing their friendship.

But when Mark and his team are ambushed and he is taken prisoner, Faith begins to have flashes of contact with him. She pulls out all the stops in her bid to find him and return him home. She even ropes in her aunt and TLC to aid her. But she also manages to step on some toes, attached to those involved in Mark's confinement and torture. Can she reach anyone who can help her track Mark in time? Will she even be taking seriously considering she is a romantic novelist?

Great introduction to the world of Phoenix, all ex military personnel with a lot to offer to the world. I love cloak and dagger spy novels and this had a great twist by including telepathic powers! I really loved Faith and Mark and their very real love affair, stretched over decades. It's just a shame that neither was willing to make the jump into romance earlier.

3.5 stars paranormal military romance and good start to a series. I deducted 1/2 star because the back and forth between memories and real time action was a bit dizzying. Mark, a Delta Force soldier, is captured on a mission gone terribly awry. Turns out he also has telepathic abilities and reaches put to Faith, his childhood friend and love. Faith, a best selling author, has no idea where Mark is but she's determined to rescue him. Mining the contacts she'd made through her literary career, she meets with his commanding officers at Fort Bragg and a senator on the powerful armed services committee. She also finds the identities of Mark's teammates and contacts the brother of one, putting her on the radar of the powerful but elusive Phoenix Agency. Her inquiries draw attention from the wrong people but a member of Phoenix is there to thwart an attempt on her life. When Phoenix learns the extent of her connection to Mark she joins the extraction team. Mark and Faith's relationship is told through flashbacks and they have a deep connection. Obviously this is fiction but still seems a bit much that he can recall all their sexy times in such vivid detail between torture sessions. Nevertheless, it's clear they share a strong physical connection as well. The other men of Phoenix as well as Faith's assistant Tess are engaging and presumably will get their own books.

This was a great story with an interesting plot, complex characters, humor, mystery, suspense, and intriguing twists that kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to see what happened next. I really liked the main characters, and the secondary one's as well, except for the bad guys of course. A great beginning to what I believe will be an exciting series.

My biggest issue with this story was the inner dialogue of both main characters. They had been friends since childhood, but had been intimate on two separate occasions. They both reminisced about those two occasions, as well as the danger that Mark was in, and the time that they wasted by not being a couple. These were brought up repeatedly throughout the story, so much that it became repetitive, and took up a majority of the book. It seemed like it was being used as a filler to make the story longer, which wasn't necessary.

This was a great story that I enjoyed, despite the repetitive aspects, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I would recommend this book, series, and author.

I have voluntarily reviewed this arc provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

Jungle Inferno....Steaming!

"Tidbit....I love you..."
Faith is startled when the telepathic message from her lover, Mark, suddenly happens riding in on a tsunami of agony. Something is drastically wrong, and Faith must move heaven and earth, and defy hell, to find Mark before it's too late.

Mark and his team of Special Ops have been betrayed. The only surviving member of the team, he is captured and faces unimaginable torture as his captors try to force him into revealing invaluable information.

Can Faith find Mark and rescue him before it's too late? Will they have a chance to recreate the passionate weekend that bonded their souls into one?

Fast paced, action packed, you "live" the story. Amazingly detailed plotlines, complex characters, and unexpected twists and turns that keep you guessing. Some graphic sexual scenes with the temperature set to blazing hot! If you like action thrillers, and strong characters that start sexual infernos, you'll love Jungle Inferno!

I have to enjoy my books in audio format due to injuries from the military so paperbacks are no longer an option. I barely finished this audiobook. I can’t even tell you if it was good or not because the narrator absolutely ruined it for me. Of all the voices she used she gave the two main characters her most middle to old aged, uneducated, backwoods, excessively drawling, and damn near Deliverance rendition of southern accents. I’m from GA and I just couldn’t stand it and am borderline offended at her take on a southern accent. Her voices for the other characters were fine. For the main characters it was a grating. Seeing as she has narrated the other books in this series I won’t be risking the rest. Rarely do I find a narrator worth negatively reviewing but Dawn Harvey aka Bethany Legare made some very bad voice choices. If you enjoy adult erotic novels with love scenes sounding like their being read by some backwoods uneducated aunt and uncle or grandparents by all means listen. If you don’t want to hear that save your ears and just read it.

i know i had read this book in some other time i just dont remember if it was my local library or through my kindle and never shelved it but....

this book was amazing i loved their connection and their love.... it was soo bittersweet and enchanting and the special circumstances on how they communicated was so cool...

and please lets talk about the sexiness thats the pheonix group like hellooooo yummy alert!!! lol

now the only reason i gave this book 4 stars its because in reality the main characters were never really physically together it was mainly his dreams and her part in trying to rescue him then at the end it was just like this little part of them being together and it was a little dissapointing for me because i wanted to see them interact but all in all like i said the book was really good.

happy reading my lovely bookworms and remember to always be caring to one another.

This is a great beginning to a new and fun book series full of romance, suspense, and thrills. This book was fast paced from the beginning to the end, I finished it faster than I wanted too. The connection between Faith and Mark was exciting to read and follow from their childhood into adulthood. Desiree did a great job explaining whey they had such a hard time being together at first, and just how stubborn Faith was. A very strong an independent women that knows what she wants and makes sure that those she loves is safe and protected. Adding psychic abilities into this series will make readers enjoy the way that those abilities are used and just how much they can be utilized.

There is. O greater happiness for an avid book-a-holic than to discover an amazing new book and to discover it is part of a series. Jungle Inferno is a book that you can’t put down intriguing, suspenseful and realistic The hero is just that, a a real life hero. His great love will stop at nothing to save him. The love that Faith and Mark have saves him from ruthless cartels and drug runners. His own government turns against him but Faith moves mountains to get to him as he is tortured and near death. I can’t wait to read book two. I’ve read Desiree Hopes book throughout the years but The Phoenix series is amazing. Happy Reading!

Talk about doing anything for love!

The main characters in this book had such an amazing connection to each other. One beyond just being friends or lovers they could actually speak to each other Telepathically no matter where they might be at the time. When the heroine gets a startling cry for help from her love she does anything she can to help him, crossing lines and angering some very bad people in the meantime. I absolutely loved every moment of this story and I highly recommend it to anyone. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

Desiree Holt wrote an exciting page turner for the first book in the Phoenix agency series. Faith is a kick ass woman on a mission to save her man. She has lots of helpful friends since she is a political thriller writer. Mark is a Delta forced soldier whose mission went bad. They can communicate telepathically with each other. She is determined to make it in time to save him. It’s a good thing that the Phoenix agency knows of Mark, and they are willing to help. This book is also sexy and has an excellent happily ever after. I can’t wait to read about the rest of the team.

I don’t know if I got an ARC but I did receive this as a freebie through BookFunnel. It was littered with typos and the sex scenes were very repetitive throughout the book. I skimmed most of it because most of these scenes were a recollection of the past from both Mark and Faith. It felt like there was just too much going on all over the place.

The story picked up toward the end when they finally made a move on rescuing Mark. All the aliases from the shady characters were confusing and at the end of the book, within 2 sentences of each other, Brannigan is both Mr Green and Mr Brown.

Make sure that you have a lot of time before beginning this book! It's a can't put it down intense story packed with espionage, treason, suspense and of course a love story. Faith is an author who has been friends and then lover of Mark Who is aSpecial Op officer. They both possess telepathic abilities and when a operation goes bad and Mark is captured he reaches out telepathically to Faith for help. Great book!

I really enjoyed this book. Faith was a great character, easy to relate to. I liked Mark, although he wasn't perfect. The telepathy was an interesting way to spice up the story. It definitely has some hot and heavy moments, but they just leave you convinced Mark and Faith are meant to be. I liked that the suspense was there but the story still maintained humor. The Phoenix Agency seems very intriguing!

Okay, I guess

This was a good book, don't get me wrong. However it felt so drawn out, likeI wasn't sure if they would get to be in the same scene together, the flashbacks of them were good, but tbh I really didn't care or want to care about the other characters, like Green or Brown or Winslow. I was here for Mark/Faith and I hardly got that. I wasn't even sure if I would finish this, but somehow I did. I just wanted to get this over with. And it sucks because I wanted to like this one, because so many others did. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Such a great beginning to this series!

Although there is sexy times in this book between Faith (Tidbit) and Mark it's "a long time coming"- they knew each other forever, soft and sweet loving. The suspense was 'nail biting' exciting, and I loved the telepathic aspect too. The fact that she could be reassured throughout that he was still alive, was soooooo good! Loved the premise and am looking forward to reading more. 😊

Mark and Faith have a special ability. They can communicate to each other through telepathy. They also have a special relationship together that they keep saying will happen when the time is right.
Mark has contacted Faith that he has been captured. Trying to find him is really hard when no one will help. She finally contacts the Phoenix agency. Will they be able to find Mark in time? Will they figure out who was behind the treason?

Wow! If this story doesn't set you on the edge of your seat, set your to pounding and get your blood pumping, I don't know what will. Political intrigue and treason along with a deeply emotional love story really make this a fabulous reading experience. Mark Halloran and Faith Wilding's rare, unusual connection reaches across the planet. Her tenacity and devotion to this man may be his only hope. His love for her carries him through the hell he's in. Truly remarkable.

This book did a good job of keeping the heat up, even though Mark and Faith were apart for most of the book. They communicated telepathically while Mark was held prisoner in the Peruvian Jungle.

Interesting world with the introduction of The Phoenix Agency and I am looking forward to more books in the series.
