About the author

Internationally bestselling author Tess Gerritsen took an unusual route to a writing career. A graduate of Stanford University, Tess went on to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where she was awarded her M.D.

While on maternity leave from her work as a physician, she began to write fiction. In 1987, her first novel was published. Call After Midnight, a romantic thriller, was followed by eight more romantic suspense novels. She also wrote a screenplay, "Adrift", which aired as a 1993 CBS Movie of the Week starring Kate Jackson.

Tess's first medical thriller, Harvest, was released in hardcover in 1996, and it marked her debut on the New York Times bestseller list. I've read all of the Rizzoli & Isles books so far and they are hands down the best detective/crime/thriller books I've ever read and Tess Gerritsen has become my favourite author by far. I read most of these books in one evening. So gripping, always an interesting set of twists and turns, cannot put it down once I've started! I also love the characters, particularly Jane and it's really interesting to see their lives and back stories develop over the series as well as the cases they're working on. Absolutely brilliant books, can't wait for more!

This review is just for the final book, Ice Cold. I reviewed all of the other books separately. Ice Cold is the last book in this 8 book bundle and is by far the best, I believe. I read Ice Cold in one day. I started it at the gym and finished it before I watched Castle. (I tivo'd it and was only 20 minutes in when I finished with Ice Cold).

This book was terribly sad, disturbing and had a nice twist in the end. This book involved Cults and the disturbing practice of "marrying" young brides. Personally, I think Jeremiah Goode, "The Prophet" got off too easy. It was almost as if he "won" and I didn't like it even though he was gunned down by one of his young brides.

We got to see a softer side of Maura Isles in this book that I really liked. I do wish things had turned out better for her in the end and that she could have been granted custody of Rat. The scene where she pretended to be his mother was one of the sweetest and softest moments for Maura that I've seen in this entire series. However, I think that we will see him again later since he was taken in by what basically amounts to the Mephisto Club.

Her relationship with Daniel, the priest, also ended and it was bittersweet. They both loved each other but they were doomed from the start. I am glad she is moving on with her life and I hope we get to see her find a true someone in her life..

I just have one or two books left in this series to read. I do hope they can live up to the excitement of Ice Cold. If I had to compare, I would say it kept me as intrigued and enthralled as the first one, The Surgeon.

Ok friends, let’s dish! Are these books good? NOPE! They’re pretty well written for what they are, but what they are ain’t great! I’ve read a lot of mysteries of the “Normie mystery-solver with 7 million books to their name where their lives change but their characters don’t” variety, and they’re just not good!
I usually use them as spacer fluff between books I care about or that are actually emotionally affecting in any way, not in the non-stop back-to-back marathon I’m engaging in now. But did I just get dumped by my long-term girlfriend who I still live with? I sure the fuck did! And it turns out all the media I like is about romance! which I canNOT handle engaging with rn, and I’ve suddenly got a lot of alone time on my hands.
The obligatory romances in these books are so boring and capital-letter Heterosexual (ESPECIALLY Maura’s “forbidden” infatuation with the catholic priest) that they don’t set off my HIGHLY volatile post-break-up-self-pity hair-trigger, and it turns out my local library has the 8 book collection ebook so I don’t even have time between books to get sad because I can just slam my way directly into the next one!
If you also just got dumped, feel like your whole life blew up overnight, have no idea how to plan for the future anymore, and really want to ignore that for a little while, I recommend setting yourself up with this extra long ebook and ignoring the world for a while. Or I guess you could develop some decent coping mechanisms if you’ve GOT to, loser. (But that’s not what I’ll be doing! And I’ve got pizza so I think we know who wins.)

i've only read books 1-6, but i can say they are well worth the read, and mind blowing. and for once... slightly unpredictable. and yes, better than the show (but the show is good too). but the thing i appreciate most about these books is use of vocabulary. the author isn't afraid to go into details and make sure you're creeped out by whatever she's describing. i like it because it makes it seem more real.

BTW: i don't know if it's me or not but it feels like the last half of the series is missing, and i'm pretty sure ( but don't quote me), that keeping the dead and the killing place aren't part of the rizzoli and isles series. but maybe that's just me being nit-picky.

The Body Double:
This was breathtakingly terrifying. Tess Gerristen in the undisputed queen of forensic crime thrillers. I thought I had read all of her Isles and Rizzoli novels until I discovered this and one other tucked away in my bookcase! So pleased I found them! If you have never been fortunate enough to have read any of her books, I can guarantee that once you start you will want to read every single one. Very highly recommended.

Overall I think reading the books in a bundle was a win for me. I would never have continued on with the series otherwise. Plus I had something to binge on when I was really sick, so that's a plus. On the other hand since I downloaded them from the library I only had three weeks to read 8 full length novels. That's a little stressful!

This series is lovely. Honestly, I started reading this series after I saw the TV series "Rizzoli & Isles". Considering the book & TV series they are never the same, whatsoever book you pick and in this case there was no surprises. Although "Maura Isles" is very important and main character of this whole series but she was present very less in the first book. I must admit this that I liked the characters from the books more than the TV series one. This whole series is so captivating that whether it is the book or it is the TV series I can say only this that I loved it.

For me the whole series is as follows:

This book is just not only the Action Thriller but it's also have many other good things in them. There are moments that are just a scene in TV series but while reading them in the book they are so captivating that it will keep you on the edge of your seats and your heart in your mouth. I really connected with the character "Maura Isles" as per knowledge and taste is considered she is just like me.

I really loved this series by Tess and would like to recommend because if you have not read this then you are missing something important.

after reading The Surgeon I made my best choice to read another book in this series. holy shit I'm in love. I read maybe half of a year ago and still can't move on. this is my fav series of all time in this genre and I will always recommend this to everyone. I love all the plot twists, my favorite Rizzoli, her relationship and her child of course ( she's cute, isn't she). I love everything in this series and I won't let anyone hate it.

While on a cruise, with intermittent connection to the internet, I borrowed this ebook from the library so I was sure to have something to read on those “at sea” days!

I have read some of the books before, but enjoyed reading them all in one go, and in order. It was nice to follow the characters and their relationships as they grew and matured.

Ada escapes her family tragedy in New York to live in a houseboat community on a lake in Seattle. The author and her husband rented a boat on Lake Union for four months while she wrote the book. Ada’s story starts as she rents the houseboat where Penny Wentworth suddenly disappeared. I enjoyed how Ada’s and Collin’s stories are alternately revealed. I was surprised by the ending!

I want to read more by this author!

Read the first 6 before I had to return this to the library. Enjoyed all the books and plan to check it out again to read the last 2. If you are a fan of the TV show you will not recognize the characters, they all have the same names and that's the extent of it. If you like mysteries, you'll enjoy these books.

Better than the TV show. The author actually used to be a practicing doctor so her medical knowledge is correct and she makes it understandable for the reader. Wonderful crime novels, characters and very suspenseful. Love all of them.

So far I've read all her books on this pair of women. I love them. And even though there is a TNT tv show about them, I still love the contrast of the books. Two strong women with big careers in a mans world. Truely great!

I downloaded this one from my local library. So far so good. I just hope I have time to finish this set before I have to return them.

Definitely an interesting series! Each book is a page-turner; however, each book is an easy read and may be very gruesome. I stopped at book 8 because I felt that they all followed the same storyline, just switched the killing methods.
