Disillusioned, dumped and unemployed on his twenty-fifth birthday, Sam Wilson, a high school mythology teacher and self-proclaimed loser, knows his life is over when he is attacked by a shrieking demon out for his blood. Rescued by his fascinating and unusual guardian angel, Sam’s gratitude earns him more than expected when his angel entangles him in a dangerous quest to find and silence a demonic sound and bring exiled angels back to San Francisco before demons destroy the city and ultimately, mankind.
Kathleen Pickering is one of my favorite new HQN authors and I'm so excited to read her super romances. But she also has her Kat Covelle book about a Mythology teacher named Sam in San Franscisco. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a sucker for Mythology. I had to buy this book, and I bought from her personally at the Heather Graham's Writers for New Orleans conference. Upon coming home, I must say Sam has an interesting life. The world has gone crazy. His girlfriend dumped him because she became a lesbian. Sam's students are shooting each other because of the mythological happenings and oh yeah, a hydra falls on his car... clearly Sam is not having a good day.
Then the story morphs into this Matrix like questioning and Sam is figuring out the new world order, and what's going on. And I enjoyed the addition of Rosemary... cute, but I'm a sucker for romance. Anyhow back to the story and defeating the power of Lucifer.
Kat does a great job with her imaginative spirit. Sam's interesting. I'd recommend this book
Love how this book starts off. Huge wow factor. The writing style is amazing. In this completely Original storyline/plot, you can expect a wild ride, with laughter on the side. Pace was awesome, could not put down. And Sam **Drool*, He is mine! **Calls Dibs**Overall is was a fantastic read. One I hope to see more of, and definitely will be reading again soon.
Kathleen Pickering - Book Review, Author Interview, Author Guest Post, Interaction/Chat, Book Giveaway at Were Vamps Romance:
Sam's a reluctant hero who is none too sure of himself as he embarks on a white-knuckled ride filled with humor, action, danger and romance. The pacing and imagery of the book initially hooked me, but it was the underlying message of courage, loyalty and love that resonated and kept me turning pages to see how this endearing hero would prevail. Along the way, Sam and a host of other characters kept me smiling!
Really bizarre and unusual world with a self-deprecating hero, hilarious sidekicks, enjoyable bit of romance, and talking animals. Honestly, they had me at talking animals. It was a nice, new and refreshing book in this new fad of vampires, angels, zombies, faeries or whatever else is popular. Or at least I seem to come across a lot of books capitalizing on the paranormal...but maybe that's b/c I like them? Hmmmm.
