A very practical guide with effective advice on how one can improve their communcation skills with pre teens. There are great examples that demonstate the author's points. Very hands-on and down to earth advice. Highly recommended!

If your child is eleven, GET THIS BOOK! Clears up the major issues that parents have when their child is transitioning into a young adult. Wish I had gotten it sooner, as to be better prepared.

I loved this. I was wondering why I had put it on my to-read shelf but decided to trust myself and ordered it. I was thinking maybe it would help with the one I am clashing with lately. It did plus gave me new insight and help with all the others and relationships in general. It is about the relationship approach, or remembering that problems are fleeting but you can damage your relationship with your kid forever. It also brings to light the issue of control. We really don't have any not over out teenagers or really anyone else. We have an illusion of control and the older kids get the more they see it and recognize it as BS. I recommend this to parents no matter how old or young your children are, even if you don't have kids and use it just for relationship advise, great book!!!

I highly recommend this book to parents of children of all ages. While currently parenting a couple of teenagers I have found it invaluable and refer to it often. The book reinforces (for me) the goal of having a relationship with your teenager based on communication. The book focuses on sharing power rather than trying to control your teenager, which is only an illusion anyhow! The younger your teenager/child is when you begin negotiating solutions, the more you and your child will be in the habit as your child gets older and the situations are more challenging.

This is the best book on Parent-teen relationships I've read. If you don't have good communication with your teen this book will help you grow as a parent so that your kids will talk to you.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with teenagers-or give it to someone you know who has teenagers- it will be helpful if you read while your children are still young (get a head start)!
