Great goddess, I'm exhausted. Between the contrariness of the characters and the neverending almost-sex, the endless euphemisms and attempted superlatives, and the two big secrets between them, it was all just too much. Pebbled pearls, velvet woman's petals, evidence of his manhood, male muscle, stoking fires, reaching for the heavens, I will have you, I can't have you, she's mine, I must send her away, ad nauseam... Just too much. Halfway through, I started to hear my gran banging on the door, telling them to shit or get off the pot. Took so long to accomplish so little, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm getting really bored with all these nontraditional women who don't follow the crappy social mores of the era. It's not a breath of fresh air anymore; it's cliché.
These are some of the horniest characters I've ever read. There was supposed to be some subplots involving a cursed jewel and a secret formula but there really wasn't any room for them between all the heaving bosoms and throbbing loins.
Another Goodreads review used the term, "Shit or get off the pot" and I must agree. At least for 3/4 of the book these people are like, "You and I are going to make sweet, sweet love. Eventually. Not right now. Just think about all the wicked things we're going to do together sometime in the foreseeable future. I can't wait, although I'm going to. You, me, sex. TBA. I've got you penciled in."
I was more than a bit wary of this book, due in part to this being one of Christina Skye's lowest rated on Goodreads, as well as the author's penchant for over stuffing a story (too much of the "big misunderstanding for my taste). But surprisingly, Barrett and Pagan had a chance to fall in love without the meeting consisting of that atrocious old-school rape, a lot of readers complained about the "foreplay", but they also complained about the constant sex within romance novel, so..... pick your battles, guys. Pagan was an old school hero (macho and broodingly in love to boot) with an added plus: he was able to acknowledge his love towards the heroine without shoving his "man root" in her; there were passages that were dedicated to his controlling his need and shield her from harm. The novel isn't without its flaws Barrett has amnesia, which aids in the "big misunderstanding", as well as Pagan catching that damn Superman Syndrome; he is unable to see she is the one he met/fell in love with because of her "brilliant" disguise (her hair is dyed black when it's really BLONDE!!!!!!! How ever will he know?). Barrett's admission of being unwillingly married to the villain felt like it should've had that soap opera organ wailing behind it. Also, the descriptions of how deep Pagan penetrated Barrett were absurd to say the least (it literally states that he went so deep that his tip grazed the edge of her womb... What...... NO .NO. NO. Not only is this cliche, but more importantly, biologically impossible. It kind of suffered in that this felt like poor man's Blue Lagoon at times... Still one of her better romances. I won't be reading any more than the two of I already got as gifts though. She's turning out to not be my cup of tea

it was... horrible. not just fiction, buy totally unbelievable. Just barely avoided a tiger attack? Sure, have sex right after at the same location. Up all night fighting a house fire after almost being killed? Why not go on back in the house and have sex?!? Seriously just lousy. The "mystery" part was ok, but would have been better without the rest. Found a couple minor editing mistakes, but they paled in comparison to the poor romance story line.
It's a romance novel. Not much more to say. The characters were a bit cardboard and I really had a hard time caring about them. Way too much time spent on the amnesia plot and not realistic on how it was resolved. Lots more could have been done on the backgrounds of the characters instead of leaving the readers in the dark.
Overall, it kept me moderately entertained, but I wouldn't suggest it to others.
This story took me awhile to make it through. It felt long. The author was through with details though and the story was well fleshed out and complete. I enjoyed it and will try a few other novels by this author
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
This is a long, boring book. Repeating itself all through the lengthy chapters. The book is not noteworthy as the first two were. Would not buy it and stop after book two. The charterers are OK but nothing to be loved by this reader. Surely the writer would have been better served by leaving this long narrative off.
I picked this book up when it was offered for free, but it is called "The Tiger's Lady" with same description as this title. It starts out interesting, then gets confusing for bit, then it becomes boring. At some point, I nearly gave up. Barrett is so ridiculously stubborn. Pagan's attempts to seduce, if you want to call it that, are nearly like attempted rape. The subplots and more subplots are a distracting hindrance to the rest of the story. I was frustrated at every turn. Finally the pieces start to fit together and some of the mess is tidied up with the climax and the villain is defeated. Even that is a let down, then yet another quirky useless detail is revealed. All that is followed by one of my least favorite things that authors do, the couple, immediately after escaping peril with grievous injury, no less, fall all over each other in a fit of lust? We nearly died; what a turn on!? Finally, I reached the end with a nice little epilogue with a sweet ending, and then another odd and pointless character history is revealed- that in no way makes the story better or more interesting. The end does have nice set up for other books, but I don't think I will bother with them if they exist.
I was truly disappointed reading this very good plot....It was massacred in the storytelling. Loved the characters, and much of the interaction is quite good, but the story gets all fouled up with too many subplots and secondary characters that muddled the story. The way the story was structured was choppy and jumbled. A good editor could have done wonders for this book.
Love, love, love, love, loved this book! One of my two fav books by Christina Skye. The other would be the Black Rose. This book has just the right mix of exoticness, sexy, brooding Englishness and feisty, independent, strong female. I borrowed it from the library but I would consider this book one worth buying and keeping.
The story dragged on forever with holes in the story line. At one point she loses her virginity to one man, only to later have the story say she lost it months earlier to another. 577 pages of repeating story plot and plain ol' boring reading.
Riveting characters and storyline. Great depth, strengths, secrets, and vitality on this book. A must read. I would say that it would take a pot or two more of tea while reading this book.
This is a book that keeps your attention. It has it all romance, murder, intrigue. I loved the way the author built up the story and just didn't throw you into it making it unbelievable. I like a beginning, a middle and a ending! Well worth reading.
I know there are a number of people who gave this very negative reviews & there were some convoluted parts that bothered me, but over all, I loved the characters and the rather hot interaction between Barrett and Pagan.
