For a book titled "The Comet Kohoutek", the author spends precious little time talking about Kohoutek ... but spends tons of time talking about (a) "falls from the sky" of frogs, worms, stones, etc. (b) the 'fact' that the planet Venus was a comet until 3500 years ago (c) that scientists are all stupid...

Just when you think he's done ranting about these topics and that he's moved on ... Bam!... A few pages later he's back onto one of these three topics again :) ... Its all so very entertaining at first, but then it just gets boring.

WAY too many italics for professional scholarship. And of course doesn’t hold up historically considering the world is still here (fucked up as it is). 1974 wasn’t any more terrible a year than those surrounding it, and the predictions that did come true were sure bets (Nixon) while too many failed (volcanos, Queen Elizabeth, etc.).
Of course, the scientists were wrong about the comet, too. So there’s that.

I borrowed this from a friend and (i think) enjoyed it as a kid.

I read it well after the disappointment of its flypast,. So much of its message was redundant by that point.

Clearly part of the sensationalist 'we're all gonna die!' strand of books common in the 70's.

Hey, will you look at that? we didn't:)
