She was the eldest daughter of Maggie Eloise Cliatt, a nurse and also journalist, and William Olin Spaeth, a college professor. Her mother was part of the women's liberation movement many years before it became fashionable. Her best friends are her mother and her sister, Dannis Spaeth (Cole), who now has two daughters, Amanda Belle Hofstetter and Maggie and lives in Utah. Susan grew up reading Zane Grey and fell in love with cowboys. Susan is a former newspaper reporter, with sixteen years experience on both daily and weekly newspapers. Since 1972, she has been married to James Kyle and have since settled down in Cornelia, Georgia, where she started to write romance novels. Susan and her husband have one son, Blayne Edward, born in 1980.
She began selling romances in 1979 as Diana Palmer. She also used the pseudonyms Diana Blayne and Katy Currie, and her married name: Susan Kyle. Another failure from DP.
The heroine is bff with the hero's sister.
She's a romance writer and since in her books there are some explicit sex scenes, the hero thinks she writes from experience.
So, be warned because we have to be very worried about Stephen King, Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley.
Surely they all have something very nasty to hide.
So, according to the hero, the heroine is a ho that happily jumps from bed to bed with every man around.
The hero is nasty with her each time they meet.
Unfortunately his sister asks him to spend Christmas holiday with her and the heroine and the hero spends all his time harassing and slut-shaming the heroine, while having sex with ow.
The heroine, that is a typical DP heroine who falls in love with the worst guy around, is of course in love with him, while he offers to have a no-string affair because he doesn't want to get married, especially to a woman like her.
Of course when the heroine tells him she's a virgin he's angry and furious and jilts her at light speed.
He doesn't do virgins, only experienced women like the one he did some day before.
Just tacky.
Yes, eventually he realizes he loves her so much but I didn't buy it and I really didn't enjoy this very very poor story.
Really stupid and bogus excuse for slut-shaming the heroine.
DP can do better than this.

“Heart of Ice” is the story of Kati and Egan.
The love hate relationship plot with best friend’s brother is put this time in a typical DP novel.
The hero was despicable. Apart from being a chauvinistic judgmental pig, this is what he did:
- Just because the heroine was a romance writer, thought and called her a promiscuous whore and slut shamed her throughout the book
- Always blamed her for his shortcomings- like when he can’t control is ardor.. it’s her fault!
- Was oh so generous with his mean barbs
The heroine initially gave back too but being a Diana heroine, she was easily seduced by his hairy chest and swooning kisses, and is soon in love with him while he walks all over her and humiliates her.
The heroine summarized the hero’s behavior in this one line
“first you think I’m a tramp, and then you try to seduce me, and now you think I’m a cheat besides
I love this author to death but double standards- BOOO-thy name is douchenozzle Egan. Also he dated other women in the book. (She dated another guy but it was more like a brother- sister relationship, even no kissing).
The heroine gave in too easily, there was no grovel. This sucked.

Egan's such an ass, to be honest. I mean, he's making ton of remarks toward Kati but in the end when Kati told him the truth, he sent her away. I don't fancy him at all. I think he's overbearing and annoying. But Kati's the one I loathe. Why in the world she forgive Egan that easy?! I was like whaaa?
But eventually, I enjoyed reading this book. Very Diana Palmer. Even though I ended up grumbling, but still.. Way to go, Miss Diana!

This book worked for me. They did not do the deed but enough sex to keep you guessing and the passion wow! He was so into her. He got her on that rug I would just cave! Virgin or not he was one hard guy to resist and he kept thinking she was experienced and putting up the heat. It sure got hot until it all blew up in his arrogant face. Great. Read again.

This book is so much of a NO, that it's insane. The main male character is chauvinistic and sexist. The main female character is a romance writer and a virgin. He makes so many assumptions about her, that he's absolutely slut shaming her. And the miscommunication trope? Stop it. Despicable.

Sweet, Old Fashioned Romance
THE STORY: Katriane James is a romance novelist. Her roommate's brother, Egan Winthrop, believes that she is a tramp who does research for her books with various men. The two fight like crazy but are also deeply attracted to one another.
OPINION: I liked this book even though the hero is a judgmental jerk for most of it. The book is typical of Diana Palmer books especially of the era so I can overlook his behavior. The book definitely reads as a 1980s series romance so modern readers should take that into account. This is a book that I enjoyed reading. It was a quick easy read but not one that I would recommend for keeper status.
WORTH MENTIONING: This book was written in the 1980s and is definitely on the sweet side. There is heavy petting but no actual intercourse in the book.
FINAL DECISION: I liked this book as a one time read. Nothing about it stands out to me, but I was completely satisfied with the story.
CONNECTED BOOKS: This is a standalone book.
STAR RATING: I give this book 3.5 stars.

Wow! Despite the fact that there was no "sealing the deal" in this book, it was still a fun, sexy read. Of course, there is the obligatory dominating, attractive from the waist down hero of some of DP's earlier works. There is also the sweet young thang with pesky virtues and virginal jitters.
When you put all that aside, it's a sappy, quick, frustrating, singularly Diana Palmer reading experience.

I normally love Diana Palmer books and her Heroes. this is the first hero I could not stand. Even at the end I never felt his remorse about how he treated the heroine. I also felt the ending needed more she just accepts his apology

I'm just gonna put it out there... Egan is a jerk! So very unlikeable until basically the last 15 pages. In the beginning he was almost emotionally abusive, it was kind of weird. And I understand the reasons behind all their fighting and the so called misunderstandings between them, which like most romance novels just boils down to a lack of communication only to further the drama, but it was just too much useless back and forth to me. While I enjoyed the happy ending, if these two were a couple in real life, I'd suggest they stay far away from each other. With all that being said, I'm a sucker for a cowboy romance with a happy ending. It was short enough that I was as able to get over the terrible parts pretty quickly and enjoy the few sweet moments they had.

Tuve que leerla como si fuese una peli de esas pochocleras porque es que sino, no iba a avanzar. Claramente esto está escrito para otra generación y en otro contexto social. Los comentarios en muchos casos violentos y agresivos, hoy en día no se dejarían pasar, pero es que además el libro ronda continuamente en el maltrato mutuo de ambos protagonistas. No podía creer cómo es que en las primeras páginas ya se podía leer sobre una cachetada sin que los protagonistas hayan cruzado ni diez frases.
Todo el libro romantiza pensamientos y actitudes muy desagradables, todo el tiempo con el tema de los celos, las pullas y en muchas ocasiones, violencia verbal.
Pues nada, no fue un libro que disfrutase pero al menos me sirve para completar una consigna de desafío literario.

Cómo escritora de novelas rosas históricas Kati siempre recupere a la buena investigación de los lugares donde de hambientan sus historias.
El hermano de su mejor amiga tiene un concepto poco alargador sobre ella, siempre le lanza pullas de su trabajo de campo que el cree que va más allá de recopilar datos de la época, nadie que sea una mujer decente puede describir las escenas de sexo como en sus novelas.
Kati guarda el mayor secreto por qué ella es virgen a sus 25 años y las pullas del vaquero le hacen más daño del que el cree y peor aun su novela se centra ahora en el lejano oeste y que mejor que ir a un rancho para tener datos.

ummm... I must have been born in the wrong era. I'm not sure what this was but it didn't feel like a love story. He was a bully and she was just snarky with a touch of uptight . And with all talk of sex throughout the novella (I'm sorry, but this is not a whole book) they didn't even do that. I'm giving three stars because I suppose it's a good one for its genre but ... nope. not my cup of tea. at all.

I cannot get enough of Diana Palmer, I have just read almost everything I can get my hands on. I love her characters, especially the I'm a man and everything I says goes kinda of man and the naive, innocent, tramatized girl hopelessly in love with him. I especially love all the groveling in the end. HEA!

If this writer’s heroes are all mean and cold like this, I don’t ever have to read another of her books. I get that it was written in the 1980s, but still. I’m so glad we have evolved past this type of story.

Another random re-read of an old Diana Palmer.
Did not stand the test of time. I really need to simply toss my Palmers into the recycle bin and have done with it. Yet I continue to try and rekindle my old timey reading days.

I really enjoyed The Heart of Ice! I always look forward to a good enemies-to-lovers story. However, some scenes felt a bit outdated—but that makes sense, lol. It is 2025 now. 🤷🏾♀️
