Reminiscent of Sylvia Plath's violently creative poetry, this anthology is written by a professor at St. Thomas college in St. Paul. I think I was one of the besieged pink-and-green haired youths at the concert in Loring Park which she describes in one of the earlier pieces, Babes in Toyland. I chose to memorize her poem entitled Blood Oranges to recite as an exercise in one of Jim Heynen's poetry classes at St. Olaf. Warning: it's pretty dark. Other favorites include Autumnal, Lawn Ornaments, Your Window on the Wannsee is Closed, Asia, Gacela of Departed Love, and of course, Blood Oranges.
