An adventure of a lifetime lies before Huber Hill, but first he has to get through middle school and the bully that’s plagued him for years. After years of torment and the urgings of his Grandfather, Huber finally decides to take a stand. What comes after is a more than Huber could have ever imagined; an adventure, a treasure from the past, villains and even the possibility of a new best friend. Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure is a thrill to the very last page.

My first impression of Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure by B.K. Bostick actually came from finding it on Goodreads. I try very hard to stay away from other reviewers reviews before reading a book up until after I’ve written my own, but in this case I caught the opening line of one and it unfortunately stuck with me. In the first line she referenced the movie Goonies, and that’s all I’ve been able to think about since seeing it. In a way it was a very positive reference, but in another way I think it really tainted my reading of the book. I’m positive that without reading that I would have come to the same conclusion, but there’s something to be said for getting there on your own. Nonetheless, it was a childhood favorite movie and saying that a book holds similarities is nothing short of a huge compliment.

B.K. Bostick has written a book that I think young readers will be clamoring for. It’s pages are filled with adventure, but also a main character that’s easy to relate to. Huber is your typical tween kid; he’s bullied in school, normally quiet, is occasionally tardy to class and generally does things that I feel kids will connect with. In addition to this he’s also made to deal with the loss of a loved grandparent, which is something you don’t see too much of in books with male lead characters and it was handled extremely well. With all of those connections along with the adventure of trying to find the Dead Man’s Treasure I’d easily say this is a story that will be loved by young boys and girls everywhere, but especially boys.

In a short period of time Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure by B.K. Bostick grabs young readers and takes them on an adventure that will have them begging for more. Huber’s character as well as his best friend and his sister take off on a journey together and encounter everything from wildlife to villains eager to rip the treasure they seek straight from their hands. Having grown up watching movies like The Goonies and National Treasure I can easily say that Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure is the written adventure for for this generation as those movies were for my own. If only I’d had more exposure to adventure books like this as a teen I may have read more back then. Regardless, this is a book young readers now will love and they’ll be left begging for the sequel!

It is already second middle grade book I am reading during the last couple of months and even though I do not belong to the targeted group, I really enjoyed this book. B.K. Bostick created a wonderful book for kids and touched many serious issues for children and he did it in a way, that it was fun to read. I read Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure in one sitting, I could not put it away and when the last page was read, I wanted more!

Huber is a sweet guy who loses his beloved grandfather who left him a box with mysterious hints about a Spanish treasure. From that moment the author takes you away to the adventure which you will never forget. Huber and his friends are set off to find the treasure and on their way they learn a lot about each other, friendship and what is important in their lives. The book is action packed, funny to read and the characters are adorable. Huber is a sweet and adorable boy who experiences lot of things during the book – harassing, loss of his beloved grandfather, sudden friendships and of course adventures!

What I really liked about Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure is that it is a story which is in general filled with hope and it leaves you with an emotion that whatever difficulties we might meet, life is still enjoyable and beautiful. It is a very positive book and I highly recommend it for parents for their kids. And I would add that read it yourself before giving it to your kids, you will definitely enjoy it!

This is a book my students will definitely love. It is full of mystery, and adventure. Those two things go hand in hand. I believe a lot of my students will be able to identify with the characters in this book. Huber and Hannah Hill are twins and about as opposite as you can get. Huber is a math geek and shy. His sister Hannah is very outgoing and athletic. Like a lot of students I know there are expectations from the parents that just can’t be met. Huber feels this tension between himself and his father. Huber is also the victim of a bully, Scott McCormick. He stands up to Scott and ends up becoming friends with him.

When Huber and Hannah’s Grandpa Nick passes away they miss him terribly. He was always telling them stories about hidden Spanish treasure. Upon his death they inherit a chest that has mementos, letters …AND…a treasure map! Hannah, Scott, and Huber set of to find the treasure and meet up with some very unexpected things. Check out this wonderful book to see if they find “Deadman’s Treasure”.

Huber has a difficult life. A bully picks on him constantly, he can’t attract the attention of the girl he likes, his twin sister makes him look like a weakling, and his parents fight constantly.

Just when he thought things couldn’t get any worse, Huber’s beloved grandfather dies. Huber inherits a map, a journal, and a mysterious gold coin. Huber is soon off on the adventure of a lifetime as he tries to beat a mysterious Spaniard to the treasure.

B.J. Bostick's novel will be a fun and interesting read for both boys and girls. The nonstop action coupled with the realities of life in middle school will keep them reading and wanting more. This book would also be a high-interest book for high school students with disabilities.

From withstanding the classroom tortures of a school bully to braving unforeseen danger in a deadly mountain treasure hunt, Huber Hill develops into the young man his grandfather knew he could be. I enjoyed the interactions between the friends as they wound their way through this story that developed into a grand adventure for them all. And can we say "cliffhanger?" Oh boy!

Huber Hill is struggling. He can't get the girl he likes, and he's constantly being picked on. Everything gets worse when his grandpa dies. Huber finds an old box that belonged to his beloved grandpa. He was surprised when he found a map. He then decides to set into an adventure with his friend, Scott, and his sister, Hannah. They're adventure gets more intense as they learn another man is looking for the treasure as well, all in greed. Huber and his gang have to decipher Spanish codes, pass obstacles, and go through many twists and turns, doing it all while keeping their parents clueless. The basic theme of this book is how everyone needs to let their inner, adventurous selves be free. I loved this book because it kept me wanting to read it. It was gripping until the last page! I would recommend this story to anyone who wants to go on an adventure! If you are looking for a more serious novel I wouldn't recommend it to you, though.

What drew me in to read Huber Hill and The Dead Man's Treasure was that it took me back to the movie Goonies. That movie was awesome and it will always be my oldie favorite! Please excuse my nostalgia =)

This book had my heart racing and pounding from excitement, tear-jerking, and anxiety! A treasure that will be prized on your shelf!

Huber, a 15 year old, lives an exciting life as much as a corn in a corn field. He's been bullied most of his life by the same boy, Scott, his twin sister Hannah is better than him at everything, his crush doesn't even notice him, and his parents are always on opposing sides constantly fighting. The only thing grounding him is his cooky but well-hearted grandfather, Nicholas Eldredge.
On visits to Grandpa Nick's house, he indulges himself as well as his grandkids, Huber and Hannah, about tales about the Spaniards who found a mine filled with gold but protected by the Ute tribe. And as the story goes, in the end the Spaniards died and weren't able to fend off the Ute, and were left to spend their afterlife with the treasure they greedily fought for. The treasure was never taken, never removed, and to this day is still there in that mine.
The ancestors of those Spaniards passed along the map leading to Tesoro de los Muertos, Dead Man's Treasure, from generation to generation until Grandpa Nick received it as a gift from a Spaniard man who gave up the find and believing that the treasure is just another false legend. With his passing, Grandpa Nick hands down the map to his grandkids... Let the treasure hunt begin!

Huber Hill and the Dead Man's Treasure was such an adventure. I would definitely have my son reading this when he grows up. This will be great for boys as well as girls because Hannah appeals to the girls point of view and keeps Scott and Huber in line! The characters were not at all too hard to adore. You will catch yourself rooting for the kids to get the treasure and solving riddles right along with them. Well written and fast paced. The only con I have would be the book cover. I know everyone has their own point of view of how characters look, but the kids don't look at all like the ones I have in my head lol Juan Hernan Salazar on the otherhand is right on the ball =)
A must MG read!

First off, I love the name. Who wouldn't want to read a book where the lead character's first name is Huber. Anyway, Huber Hill and the Dead Man's Treasure is a Middle Grade book of 257 pages published by Cedar Fort Publishing.
The Story- Huber Hill, nicknamed Puber, doesn't have many friends. Even his twin sister Hannah, all-star softball player, stays away. Bully Scott McCormick has free reign to terrorize the boy. Then one day things change, Huber finds out a secret about Scott and they become best friends.
Huber also finds out a secret from his Grandpa Nick about ancient Spanish gold that is hidden in the mountains near their home. The three kids; Huber, Hannah and Scott, set off on the adventure of a lifetime as they follow a worn out old map into the raw and wild mountains. Unknown to them a killer is also after the treasure, tracking them step by step, he will stop at nothing to get the treasure that once belonged to his ancestors.
My Thoughts- This is definitely an upper middle grade story due to the violence depicted throughout the book. Quests are my favorite thing, and these three kids set off on their own solving clues from a treasuree map. The presence of Salazar hunting the children is chilling. The author did a good job of pacing tension that builds and builds. Plus, this guy keeps coming back. You think the kids have won, and bam there Salazar is again. It is very intense. I really enjoyed reading this book. I found the children's characters well developed. The truth behind Scott's original bullying is so true to real life. The character of Huber grows throughout the story, from victim to hero, facing danger eye to eye. And Salazar, wow, totally creepy character, well written and believable. The children's parents are likeable too. The two fathers come after their children, determined to save them at all costs, the theme of bravery runs deep throughout the book.
For Parents- The violence I mention all revolves around Salazar hunting the children and not being afraid to kill them for his goal, the treasure. The children have several confrontations with the killer and the guy gets pretty mangled up, and he still keeps going. There is no bad language and romance wise, there is a first kiss underneath a waterfall, very sweet.

I received this ARC for review from Cedar Fort, Inc. as part of the author's virtual book tour. I did not receive any compensation for my review, and the views expressed herein are my own.

Wow, what an adventure!

When I read the synopsis, I knew I would enjoy this book. But even I wasn't prepared for what a fun, captivating read this was going to be!

Huber Hill is a 15-year old boy who has the misfortune of being antagonized by the class bully, Scott McCormick. Every person will be able to connect with Huber because we have all been in that position at one time or another. He is an extremely likeable protagonist.

Huber and his twin sister, Hannah, are extremely close to their Grandpa Nick. I love how Bostick portrays the closeness of their relationship. The kids are devastated when Grandpa Nick dies, but he leaves them a secret map that is supposed to lead to the Dead Man's Treasure hidden in the mountains.

Bostick throws in a creepy villain, puzzling clues, and a twist that makes this book a thrilling read!

As a parent, I love the many teachable moments that Bostick has created within the novel which act as a springboard to meaningful discussions with my children that include topics such as: death and grief, bullying, forgiveness, family dischord, keeping secrets, and money.

Fans of Indiana Jones or the Goonies will love this fast-paced adventure! I think it is a perfect middle-grade read which appeals to both boys and girls. As an adult, I enjoyed the book thoroughly and thought how much I would have loved to read a book like this when I was younger. My kids are little young yet for this, but I know they will enjoy it every bit as much as I did when they are a bit older! The ending sets the reader up for the next adventure, and I cannot wait to continue this series!

MY RATING: 5 stars!! I loved it, and I can't rave enough about it! Highly recommended!

It all began in Salamanca, Spain. Juan Hernan Salazar really wanted the map leading to dead man's treasure. His uncle told him that Nicholas Eldredge had the map in Carbondale, Colorado. Then Juan killed his uncle.

On the other side of the ocean, in the town of Carbondale, Colorado, Huber and Hannah Hill, twins, were visiting with their grandpa Nick. He was telling them of a legendary treasure known as dead man's treasure. Hannah didn't believe a word he said, but Huber was really taking it in. One day when Huber was visiting grandpa Nick while Hannah was playing softball, grandpa Nick pulled out an old gold coin. He said this coin was from the dead man's treasure. Huber couldn't believe it! His grandpa told him to keep it a secret. Shortly after this, grandpa Nick died.

In the mail, Huber receives a box from grandpa Nick, after he had died. Inside of the box is a journal and an old treasure map that dates back to 1747 made by Pedro Salazar. He shows Hannah and they decide their grandpa was telling the truth and they are going to find the treasure. Now the adventure begins. The twins become friends with a boy named Scott. He bullied Huber, but Huber was kind in return and they end up becoming friends. They showed the map to him and they all go together to the mountains. There they encounter Juan, who has come over to Carbondale, Colorado to find Nicholas Eldredge, who has died. Juan is a descendant of Pedro Salazar and thinks the map is his. He follows them wherever they go, in order to find the treasure. It gets really interesting and exciting.

This book is full of adventure and mystery. It will keep you guessing and the end is very surprising. This book is quite violent, so it is not for young kids. One of the book's themes was don't judge others before you get to know them. Scott was a bully. He bullied Huber, but in the end they became best friends. I would give this book 4 1/2 stars and would like to read the sequels.

Review copied from original post at Imaginary Reads.

Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure encompasses the spirit of adventure. Starting at the bottom of the social ladder, Huber confronts his fears, befriends the school’s bully, and goes in search of an ancient Spanish treasure over which blood has been shed. In the midst of all this, he will discover the most important treasures of all: friendship, life, and trust.

I can’t remember how long it’s been since I enjoyed a mystery novel involving dead man and ancient treasure. I couldn’t have asked for better characters than Huber, Scott, and Hannah, or for a badder bad guy to stalk them than Juan Hernan Salazar. I enjoyed watching the children solve the riddles to the treasure and outwit Salazar as he attempted to claim the treasure for himself. Along the way, tween angst manifests itself in Huber’s insecurities and Hannah and Scott’s growing awareness of each other.

There are countless things I enjoyed about this book, but I would like to give a special mention to Scott. For all we know at the beginning, he’s a big bully who picks on Huber just because he can. However, after the cafeteria fight that leads to the realization that their enmity was a huge misunderstanding, you learn that he’s a really cool kid. I am so glad that BK Bostick rounded out Scott’s character because not only does it break social stereotypes, it makes the novel all the more enjoyable for his part in the adventure.

BK Bostick has written a thoroughly enjoyable middle-grade mystery novel that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. I can’t wait to read the continuation of Huber, Scott, and Hannah’s adventure!

There was time I was amused by Enid Blyton's books, such as The Famouse Five, The Secret Seven. As a child, I was so amazed on how cool the adventure they experienced. I wish I had been there with them, entered their world and jumped into the books. Unfortunately, I rarely found a same kind of those books nowadays.

I was so glad when I finally found this book. Huber Hill and The Dead Man Treasure is about three children going on some exciting adventure looking for treasures. At first, Huber not really sure about the map and the journal his grandpa Nick has given him. He was uncertain whether the treasure were there for real. But, when the Spanish bad guy appeared at his house and he seemed looking for the same map, Huber began to make his own journey with his sister Hannah and his friend Scott. One by one, they revealed the clues grandpa Nick had left for them. And at the same time, they did not know that they have been followed by the Spanish bad guy...

I enjoy reading this book since its story entertained me. This book has brought me back to my childhood. Huber Hill makes you remember your own childhood when somebody bullied you in junior school and how to face it bravely. Huber also reminds us not to work hard so that everybody loves you, but just be yourself.

I like Hannah character as Huber's sister. They are twins, but Hannah seems to be more grown up than Huber. And I love the part when the three of them, Huber, Hannah, and Scott, finally work as a group together, leaving their egos behind.

This book is an enjoyable reading, and fit to children. But I do not think the kissing part is a good part to include in this story. I have never expected would find that part in this book, but I think it could be skipped (just for children).

Huber Hill is a teenager who is not exactly what you would call one of the "cool" kids in school. In fact, he is bullied and picked on by his nemesis, Scott McCormick, who gave Huber the nickname, "Puber" during a 5th grade maturation assembly. Life is pretty miserable for Huber at school and at home where his parents can't seem to stop fighting everyday.

The only good thing in Huber's life is spending time with his ailing Grandpa Nick. When Grandpa Nick dies, Huber and his twin sister, Hannah are completely devastated. However, amongst the things that Grandpa Nick leaves them is treasure map left behind by the Spanish conquistadors, now called the Tesoro de los Muertos of Dead Man's Treasure. According to legend, it is cursed and no one has found the treasure and/or live to share about it.

That's when the adventure really begins. Huber embarks on a journey to find the treasure and prove that the tales his grandpa has shared with him are really true. Once the action starts, it is a very past-paced adventure that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Without giving away too much, this book has all the ingredients you are looking for in an action/adventure book - a vicious villain, a journey to find lost treasure, old myths and legends, wild animals and unexpected twists and turns to keep you guessing what will happen next.

Overall:
I really enjoyed this book. It took a little bit to get going, but once it did, I couldn't put it down. It is going to be a great addition to my classroom library and my 5th graders (especially the boys) are going to love it.

This book has all the best of what I love in an adventure story: kids actually getting outside and having an adventure rather than a cyber-adventure; a treasure map with ghosts and Spanish bullion and swords; an adventure that hinges upon an ancient mystery; and a great message about never giving up and the importance of keeping your word and believing in family.

Huber Hills is an oh-so-typical adolescent. His parents are on the brink of divorce; he is competing against his smart, athletic and popular twin sister; and he is also the victim of a relentless school bully. The only sure thing in Huber's life is his Grandpa Nick.

When his grandfather suddenly dies, Huber is devastated. But Grandpa Nick left something behind for his favorite grandson-a treasure map and a story of riches beyond belief. Knowing he has to try and find the treasure, Huber enlists the help of his sister and once-bully turned friend. They all head into the mountains for the adventure of a lifetime. And Huber is determined that nothing will separate him from this last request of his grandfather.

What a great and fun read! I never get tired of old-fashioned adventure stories like this. They always take me back to my youth and the hours I would spend reading of dashing heroes and lost treasures. These kinds of books are so few and far between. As a teacher, I scour bookshelves and lists looking for that next great story to recommend to my students. This one I will have no problem finding a willing and eager audience for! A great first read by this author and the best news yet? It's only the first in what I suspect will become a favorite new series for me.

I received an ecopy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have boys who are tweens and early teens and I'm always looking for good books for them to read; or rather, books that will interest them enough to get them to read! I have to say, Huber Hill and the Dead Man's Treasure fits the bill perfectly! It has action, a little sentiment, a little romance, and did I mention action!

Huber is having a really bad year. He's being bullied at school by a boy named Scott, he has no friends, and he's not athletic like his twin sister, Hannah, to his dad's regret. The only person who he is close to is his grandfather. Sadly, his grandfather dies, but he leaves Huber a box with a story and a treasure map. Huber decides that he is going to go on a quest to find the treasure in his grandfather's name. He has since become friends with his bully, Scott, so they decide to camp out on the mountain and find the treasure. Huber's sister, Hannah, overhears their plans and blackmails Huber into taking her along.

There are lots of trials and tribulations on their journey, least of which is a Spanish man, Juan Salazar, who wants the treasure for himself, and will do anything to get it. Let me tell you, this Juan is one scary dude! I wouldn't want to run into him on a dark mountain!

This story is very well written and is a quick read. Parents should be aware that it gets really scary about halfway through, but not so scary that I wouldn't let my sons read it. Just something to be aware of.

In summary, I can definitely recommend this as a great MG book, with a fast pace, and thrills and chills to keep anyone reading it on the edge of their seat :D

Huber Hill is having a tough time. He's constantly picked on at school, his parents won't stop fighting, and he can never match up to his twin sister. One of the people he feels closest to is his grandfather, who tells him amazing stories of his past. The most interesting story is about Tesoro, a place in the mountains where the some Spaniards his some gold in times past. Huber, his sister, and his former-bully-now-friend are soon caught up in an exciting adventure when they become the owners of a mysterious map. Pursued by a man bent on getting their map, the kids have to survive a lot if they are going to find any treasure.

This was a pretty entertaining book. I felt it started out a little slow, but it went forward at a steady pace from there. Huber was a little too down-trodden for my tastes. I was very happy when he finally stood up for himself. Scott turned out to be a pretty good friend, but I could have done without the constant use of Huber's nickname. I also felt like the bad guy went through an excessive amount. How was he not down for the count?

In the end these turned out to be fairly minor quibbles. Overall it was a fun book. Once the kids got out into the mountains, it was pretty much non-stop adventure. I think this book will be enjoyable to boys and girls equally. The ending also leaves room for more story to be told, so I look forward to reading more about Huber and his crew.

The first quality the reader will notice about the book is the that the book is reminiscent of The Goonies-a childhood favorite movie concerning a group of kids attempting to find treasure while being chased by a bad gang of adults. The main character in this book, Huber, is clever and precocious. He's fun to read about, the reader will not be bored. The secondary characters are interesting to read about, they all have their own quirks.

Huber doesn't have the most exciting life in the world. He is repeatedly bullied by Scott, the meaner character of the story, and his crush doesn't notice him. His life is fairly normal and monotonous until someone who is very important to him dies. When he loses his grandfather, Nicholas, he is shattered; his grandfather was the one person Huber always looked up to. Over they years, his grandfather had told Huber stories of treasure and epic fights between the Spaniards and the Ute tribe, the treasure was fought over, but never found. As a parting gift to his grandchildren, Nicholas left them the treasure map. The adventure takes off from this point.

The plot is fun to read about and inventive, the events are fast-paced, and the characters are, for the most part, likable. This book is great for both boys and girls; Huber will appeal to the boys, Hannah (Scott's twin sister) to the girls, and the plot to both boys and girls. This book was hard to put down and recommended to teens/children.

This book is about three people who go on a very big adventure for gold. Huber is the main character, and the other two people that go on the adventure are: Huber’s sister, Hannah, and Huber’s bully, Scott. The adventure starts when Huber finds an old box that belonged to his grandfather. He found the box about a week after his grandfather died. In the box was a map, a gold coin, and a couple of other things. The map supposedly led to the gold. So they decided to go follow the map to the gold just for fun. They started out happy and it was all fun and games but then they realized what they were actually getting into. They weren’t the only ones looking for the gold.
My favorite character is Hannah. She’s my favorite character because she’s smart and she makes the book a little bit better. She throws in more drama and books need a little bit of drama (in my opinion). I also like her in there because if it were all guys, like the two in there, the book would go totally different. There would be way more fighting and barely any brain power.
I personally can’t relate to anyone in the story but I’m sure some people could (just not me). I like the book because it has drama, it has action, it has mystery, and it’s just the type of book I like. My favorite part is the end of the book so I don’t want to spoil anything I just love the ending. This book is in a trilogy, this is the first book, and if you read the first one you’ll have to read the other two.

When I was a little girl, I used to read wonderful stories where a group of young children get stranded on a mysterious island or where’re they’re kidnapped or they go for an adventure without adults supervision. It was a blissful form of escapism for me when I was a little girl. I wish I’m one of the book characters and I was the one who is on an amazing adventure instead.

Unfortunately for me, Young Adult of Children fiction these days has lost such charms and authors tends to write stories more on paranormal side… a darker side.

Huber Hill and the Dead Man’s Treasure is a very rare book… I mean, it’s a gem. The story reminds me of books I used to read when I was a little girl. Very nostalgic and I enjoyed it very much. I’m very pleased that I finally found a book that’s not tainted by the darker side of children storytelling.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Cedar Fort Publisher via Netgalley. I was not compensated in any ways for writing this review.

Huber’s Grandpa Nick was a story teller. He would share stories of a lose gold mine that was said to be cursed. Grandpa Nick had a map and a prospecting journal to search for the mine. When his grandpa dies, it is up to Huber to fulfill his legacy and find the mine.

The journey to find the mine is very exciting. Huber and his friends solve puzzles, cross rivers, and hike for days on end. A wonderful kinship blossoms between the comrades as they share this amazing experience. It was fun to watch Huber, who was used to being teased, take the lead.

Huber must also contend with a Spanish murderer who sees the mine as his birthright. This guy was a little unbelievable to me because he was somehow able to survive even the deadliest of situations. He fell off a thirty foot cliff and then showed back up to cause more mischief. See what I mean?

Overall, I enjoyed solving the mystery right along with Huber and his friends.

COVER COMMENTS

Huber and his pals are front and center with a treasure chest. Do you see the spooky eyes in the background? This cover really fits the story nicely.

Tesoro!

This book took off from the first word. Kids will love its fast-paced action and its boy-next-door characters.

Huber Hill is the guy everybody picks on in middle school. Especially Scott McCormick, who gives him probably the worst nickname ever. (I really hate that name and hate that poor Hubs never seems to shuck it off.) At first we really want Hubs to give Scott the old heave ho, but instead, they become firm friends.

When it comes time to share the secrets Huber's dying grandfather has left him, he shares it all with Scott and his sister, Hannah. There's a treasure in the mountains, waiting for them to uncover it with the help of an old map, a notebook, and some old-fashioned brainpower.

Unfortunately they aren't the only ones interested in the money. A truly creepy Spaniard shadows the kids' every move, intent on beating them to the gold doubloons. He'll stop at nothing--not theft, not spying, not assault, or even murder. Luckily the kids have powerful forces on their side.

This was a fun, speedy read and fits on the shelves with the likes of Obert Skye and The Janitor.

This book was sent to my via NetGalley as part of a book tour. The main characters are Huber Hill and his twin sister Hannah Hill, their friend Scott McCormick. Hannah and Huber spend their Saturdays with their Grandpa Nick hearing stories about buried treasure. Shortly into the book Hannah and Huber are devastated by the loss of their grandfather who has died. He left a book to the kids which sparks them wanting to find the treasure little do they know that someone else is after the treasure and willing to get it at any cost. This book reminded me of the Goonies and Pirates of the Caribbean. Full of mystery, adventure, trying to figure out a treasure map, field guides written by their grandfather. The three travel deep into the mountains in search of the treasure having to think smart and fight of bad guys. I really enjoyed this book and think other readers will especially teenagers. What a great ride!

Wow! What a great book. This was a pretty fast read. Huber, Hannah, and Scott draw you in so quickly on their adventure to find the Dead Man's Treasure that you'll feel like there must be buried treasure in the mountains by your house.

Huber and his friends will take you on an adventure unlike any you have been on before. The Dead Man's Treasure is literally a treasure, but the lessons that Huber, Hannah, Scott and everyone else learn along the way far outweigh the temptation to carry a giant load of golden coins down a mountain.

This book is extremely well written and full of excitement. I'd recommend it to anyone that likes an exciting read!

Can't wait for the second one!

Huber has heart! I haven't read a treasure story I enjoyed this much since Holes. What I loved most about the book was Bostick's characters. I found myself connecting with and caring about them right away. The story doesn't rely upon fantasy or supernatural elements to carry it- simply great characters, impeccable writing, and a superb plot. It's a story that can kids can see themselves actually living. While written for ages 10 or so, I enjoyed it as well- it reminded me of my childhood and definitely has a nostalgic appeal for adults.

I was given this ARC from a reviewer and was in no way compensated.

I enjoyed reading all about Huber, Hannah, and Scott's adventure. The book itself is geared probably towards middle school students but I looked forward to reading it even though I am in my mid-twenties. It was a perfect read when you have to pick up and put down the book often because it has an easy to follow story line, but with a twist or two! I recommend this book for teachers because it has some good structure to use for teaching students about plot and some unexpected vocabulary words. I was thrilled to win this book for free in the Goodreads Giveaway and was especially excited that it was signed by B.K. Bostick. I would read the sequel to The Dead Man's Treasure.
