Heart of a Highland Warrior is the third book in the Highland Warrior Series by Anita Clenney. I waited patiently for this book, and when I finally got it on my Kindle, I read it in two nights. Well, it was almost one, but I had to quit when the words started to blur. If you haven't read any of the previous books in the series, I would suggest you start with the first book, Awaken the Highland Warrior. If you start with this one first, you may be a little lost. Now on to my review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has everything you could want in a book, sexy highlanders, strong women (mentally and physically), love, passion, suspense, and good against evil. Anita has wrote another wonderful book, that held my interest right up to the very end!
The story starts with Bree finding an old dug up grave, and she just loves old graves (don't we all... uh, no). Inside the grave is a wooden coffin that contains an old skeleton. Whoever the dead man was, he is wearing a kilt and light colored shirt, just like what Faelan was wearing when she discovered him in the Time Vault. Bree & Faelan mistakenly come to conclusion that it's Tavis, Faelans younger brother, and begin preparing his funeral.
Tavis has been watching over Faelan since they were children. He has traveled 150 years in the future to protect Faelan and help him destroy his assigned demon. Tavis is being held captive by an powerful, ancient demon. He doesn't know why he is being held captive, or how he got there. He doesn't remember his name, who he is or anything about himself. It is up to Anna to help him find the answers.
Tavis s' character is strong, handsome, protective, and loyal to his clan and those he loves. Tavis has to learn how to live in this new time that he finds himself in. It is humorous the way he reacts to music, cars, and the way the women dress and act now. While getting used to a new time, he has to find the Book of Battles, fight demons, and protect Anna all at the same time.
Anna is afraid to love anyone, she is a little stand offish, and carrying around a big chip on her shoulder. She is afraid to get close to anyone, because the past has taught her that she is unlovable. When she gets trapped in a fortress following a man that she believes may lead her to the Book of Battles, she knows that she made a bad mistake. She must fight to stay alive, find a way to escape, and help a mysterious man in the cell beside her.
I love all of Anita's books in the 'Highland Warrior' Series! Heart of a Highland Warrior is my second favorite, after Faelan in Awaken the Highland Warrior. This book was action, action, action from start to finish. I didn't want to put the book down. In this book many questions were answered, but there were still a few that I had from Angus: A Highland Warrior Brief (novella) that didn't get answered in Heart of a Highland Warrior. I am sure Anita will answer those in the next book.
If you are like me and you liked Shay's aunt Nina and her cousin Matilda, have no fear you get more of them in this book. I found myself laughing out loud at Matilda. All of your favorite Connor Warriors are in this book. I love that in each book in the series all of the warriors make an appearance, so we get to keep up with all of them.
In the front of the book there is a Character Index. I am so glad that Mrs Clenney put that in this book. Now we can keep up with who's who. If you enjoyed the other books in the series so far, you will enjoy this one even more. I can't wait until the next book in the series! Write Anita, write!
