Jean Shepherd (humorist, writer, raconteur) hosted a 1-hr radio show in the 1950's which has been collected into audio format. Not only are these 45-min segments very funny, but they open up a window into an America not only of the 1950's but also further back to the America of Jean's childhood in the 1920's. Performed entirely without a script, he would introduce a topic (seemingly at random) and keep talking for 1 hr about anything that came to mind; drawing generously on his hilarious memories of growing up in a working-class neighborhood near Chicago.

Thoroughly enjoyed this collection of 8 radio productions from a program that aired for 25 years ending in the early 1970s. Jean Shepherd is sometimes brash in his humor and some of this humor would raise some eyebrows today, but stick with it and be so entertained. As you continue to listen you just being to discover the breadth of his interests and knowledge. I am certainly going to look for more of these releases, especially on audio, since his program contains music as well as voice to entertain.
