The Ultimate Butchering Guide

Rate this book
This is a gory descriptive book with death, blood and guts. There are very detailed pictures and may not be suitable for soft hearted or weak stomached individuals. This is the best way I know to teach you! As a homesteader or a prepper it is important to be able to raise your own food. When you raise your own meat you know how the animal was cared for and what is in your meat when you process it. I like to think of it as they had a great life with one bad day. Some of the most common types of livestock to raise and process are pigs, beef, lamb, and goat, these are the biggest and most difficult to work up. Most of these animals are processed the same in the beginning, from culling to hanging them. You also have smaller animals that you can butcher from your farm or homestead. You can raise rabbits, or hunt them during the season. There are chickens, turkeys, and ducks that are considered dual purpose for feeding you from eggs to meat. There are a few things to discuss that may be a bit difficult to watch as you are killing the animal. Anyone that has witnessed or killed animals has seen it but for those that have not I feel a warning is needed. I am very much used to seeing animals killed and I still don’t like to watch. First is movement still, this is where the nerves in the body are twitching after the animal has been killed. The nerves are running the course on their way out. This is nothing to worry about, it happens to all of us. Second, the eyes are still open. The animal was killed while its eyes were still open. It is dead, so there was no response to tell it to close its eyes. I promise it can not see anymore. Lastly, death throes, This is where the animal is thrashing and wrenching its head and body. It is the phase of the animal dying but it is suffering. It is horrible to watch and should try to be ended quickly if you can safely get inside and slit its throat to help finish.
