The Piedmont Naturalist, Vol. 1

Rate this book
This is the first collection of “Piedmont Naturalist” columns written by Bill Hilton Jr. His 38 essays originally appeared in Sunday editions of The Herald (Rock Hill, South Carolina) between April and December 1986. Hilton’s columns have been warmly received by readers, many of whom send copies to friends in other parts of the country. The author’s love for natural history is eloquently and elegantly expressed in his tales of happenings at Hilton Pond and other locales in the Piedmont—that fascinating area between the mountains and the Coastal Plain. Hilton takes the everyday occurrence in nature and makes us look at it with greater appreciation, with renewed interest, and with an understanding that every living thing is important. He has a special affection for birds, but his weekly columns cover topics from blacksnakes to Goldenrod, from red clay to Red-tailed Hawks. This new electronic edition includes line drawings from the first print edition PLUS lots of new color photos.
