Good photos. Categorized by color, so easy to look up a bird you don't know. I only wish this book had more info on each bird, like what types of food they prefer and if they are found in urban/rural areas, only areas with lots of water sources, etc. Each bird has a map on the page, showing which parts of Michigan it lives in, but doesn't tell me if it can be found in the city versus only in the country. I'd like to know which birds I have a shot at attracting and what brings them to the feeder.
I do alot of backyard and neighborhood bird watching. I own more bird books than one person needs, but my very most favorite is nature photographer Stan Tekiela's perfect pocket-size Field Guide to the Birds of Michigan. His clear and concise color photos are spot-on, making it easy to quickly identify birds. The book is sensibly organized by color of birds. A color-coded range map of Michigan identifies the seasons birds can be seen around the State. Stan's Notes, featured on every page, add even more helpful information.
This is an AMAZING little book to help identify what birds stop by your house!! It's color coded with great pictures of each bird on one page, and the page opposite has some information on those birds!
These books are absolutely worth having if you live in Michigan and like to identity birds. Organized by color, this is a great way to identify birds when you only have a visual reference.
I like the way this field guide is organized, by color. Just right for a beginner! Since I'm not well acquainted with the different types of birds, it's easier for me to look them up by color. However, this guide doesn't have all the birds. We were disappointed not to find the endangered "Kirtland's Warbler."
I didn't know that I would have a preference with a field guide. A field guide was a field guide before now. We'll eventually find one that is stellar to buy and use often.
One great thing about this guide is that it comes with a companion CD that has the bird songs.
It's an ongoing process to read this type of book!
Great book for getting your children interested in bird watching. My children love looking up birds we seen in our yard. Every time they seen a new bird they would run to grab the book to see which one they found in the yard. We still use it and it sits by the front window with a pair (two pairs) or binoculars.
