The Demonata Vol. 1 & 2: Lord Loss & Demon Thief

Rate this book
Grubbs Grady has stiff red hair and is a little big for his age, which means he can get into R-rated movies. He hates history and loves bacon, rats, and playing tricks on his squeamish older sister. When he opts out of a family weekend trip, he never guesses that he is about to take a terrifying journey into darkness. Hungry demons and howling werewolves haunt his waking nightmares... and threaten his life.

Lord Loss: I have figured out that Darren Shan's first book of the series is always the weakest, so if it's a really good one does that mean what I think it means? In this book I am introduced to yet another one of his portrayals of a twisted race. Which is demons, big, small, scary, wimpy, and many more. I haven't gotten so interested in a character since Shan's Cirque Du Freak's Darren. The only down side of this book is the slow start. Besides that it's really good!

Demon Thief: The second installment to Shan's Demonata is amazing. This book kept me guessing until the very end. This book was definitely better than the first, but it did take a bit longer to get interested. After a certain point it does feel like the whole book is a climax, even the end! I am glad I finished this, but now I have nothing to read!

Darren Shan really outdoes himself here with the blood and gore, unlike some of his other novels. Since this is an omnibus edition, my ratings for the 2 of them combined is 3.5/5. I enjoyed both books for entirely different things. I loved Grubbs in the first novel, but I love the plot in the second novel. It was just a bit iffy for me to keep in mind that the series separates frequently between novels, but is still all woven together to make a single storyline. I also recall that the first few novels in a series aren't my favorites when it comes to Shan's work, but I do believe that they will only improve as the sotry becomes more apparent.

The Demonata series is a wonderful read. From the start until the end, you’ll be gripped, with the storyline being intricately woven throughout the books. Whilst it may seem, at the start, as though the books are telling different stories such is not the case. Everything is brought together wonderfully and you cannot appreciate the magic of the series unless you work your way through it.

Without a doubt, one of my favourite reads from my later childhood.

I believe that the first volume does a good introduction into a series and does not hesitate to start in a very descriptive and gruesome way. The author describes the creatures as misshapen and with many different body parts which plays with your imagination which gives you a clear mental image of everything.

Darren Shan is one of my most favourite author. I instantly fell in love with his books, 'Lord Loss' 'Demon Thief' and 'Bec'. They are absolutely amazing. I really love his second book 'Demon Theif'. The plot twist was like someone had just smack me. Love his books! They're just outstanding. I suggest you read them.
