Have you ever had you life so good then all of a sudden it turned upside down? Well if you have your just like Santiago Munez. The genre of this book is Realist fiction.I know this because a lot of the events in here could have really happened in real life. The setting of the book is in a lot of different places it takes place in Newcastle at his old house,in Los Angeles,in Madrid, and in Mexico.Santiago Munez all his life wanted to play with Real Madrid. But he was already the star player of Newcastle United.Later on he gets a transfer deal with Real Madrid. But if he accepted it that would mean he would have to leave his fans in Newcastle and his Fiancee Roz.He had almost eveything he could ask for.So later on after the negotiations Santiago accepts the deal with Real Madrid. So he moves over Madrid and he reunites with his old friend Gavin Harris.Santi gets to meet a lot of the worlds best players. He gets tomeet player Like David Beckham,Ronaldo,Raul,Casilas.Furthermore he became sensational because everytime he would go in for Harris he would score a lot of game winning goals.Later on he runs a kid over with his Lambroghini that he had had bought and it turned out the kid was his brother and he was with his long lost mother that had abandoned him when he was a kid.So that begins to distract Santi with Roz and his team and his friends. So later on Enrique his so called brother steals his car and starts driving it and Santi gets a cab and starts chasing him and Enrique ends up crashing and goes to the hospital.Police start asking him questions and Santi lied and said he crashed.Later on the coach starts Harris for the final. Then Santi goes in and scores to tie match up and then David Beckham scores the game winning free kick. Then they were champions. A theme of this book is friendship. The point of view of the story is third person point of view.I know this because it shows different places at the same time.I was surprised when Santi kissed Jordanna, becuase Santi is going to get married to Roz.Santi changed when he first met Enrique, because he thought about his mom a lot. I liked the way the author wrote the book, because he made you feel like you were in the book.I liked the book because I found it really cool.Th main charachter became really selfish when he turned rich. I liked this book a lot because I just found a lot of connections since I play soccer. If I were to rate the on a scale from 1-10 I would give it a 8, because I could not relate to his troubles.I would recommend this to soccer players or Real Madrid fans.I thought this book was fun.
I chose this book after reading the first one and I decided to read the second. The main part about this story is when a young man named Santiago Munez has been offered to play at a club called Real Madrid the biggest and richest soccer club on the planet. Munez has a tough decision to leave his home in Newcastle England to go and play in Madrid, Spain. Later on he runs into his step-brother and finds his mother working in a small bar. My favorite quote is when a reporter asks Santiago how he feels after getting his team into the final of a game and he says "im glad we made it but it was not only me that played" I greatly admire that about his character and how he is very loyal to himself and his teamates. I was very interested on how after everything this young adult has gone threw he is trying to put his team on his shoulders and saying it is a team effort. I would recommend this book to anyone who just wants a good story to read but if they like they can read the first one so they can have a better understanding on whats happening.
Santiago meet his hath brother and his biological Mother at Madrid and he forgiven his mother. He took his family to what him play at final of champion league. I enjoy reading this book because I found it interesting. The Story made me remember of a friend who struggle like Santiago to play soccer.
“Goal II: Living the Dream” by Robert Rigby is a Realistic Fiction book about Santiago Munez. This book takes place in three locations; Los Angeles; Madrid, England;Spain; and Mexico. Santiago Munez is a very skilled soccer player who dreams about playing in the big leagues. Santiago goes on through his soccer career with many personal problems at home. He went on to sign for a professional club named Newcastle United which plays at the top division in England. He has a difficult time trying to impress the first team coaches their and is put on the third team. During these difficult times he meets a girl named Roz which motivated him along his journey and would eventually be his wife. Santiago wasn’t going to take a third team for an answer, he put in the extra hours needed and started to make a name for himself. He gets his chance with the first team and runs with it. He had the performance of his life that game. Santiago became a star of Newcastle United. His incredible career impressed the best football team in the world, Real Madrid. He had everything he worked hard for but signing for Real Madrid would mean leaving his fans at Newcastle and leaving his soon to be wife Roz. Santiago makes the decision to sign for Real Madrid and is now playing where some of the greatest players have played. The main idea of this book is to show how Santiago Munez didn’t allow his circumstances to tell him what he can and can’t do. This is what the author Robert Rigby wanted the reader to walk away with.
The basic situation is Santiago having to deal with his off field problems and family issues. They took up most of the story being told instead of how good he was playing on the field and this had an affect on him throughout the book. Some of the new characters that weren’t in the other book are Rosa-Maria(mother), Enrique(younger brother) and Miguel(Rosa’s husband). The important thing about them is Santiago didn’t know they lived in Spain or that he even had another brother. Another important thing about them is the mental effect they had on Santiago because he spent so much time thinking about and affecting his life. The setting is now in Madrid Spain because he signed with the team and joined former teammate Gavin Harris and legendary players on the team. This would cause a problem between Santiago’s relationship with Roz because she lived in Newcastle and wasn’t willing to leave everything behind. I found the theme to be more about friends and family because of the effect that can be seen in the book. There is also some examples that you could use in your own life when it comes to these topics. Again I would give this book a 10/10 because of the nostalgia and just how it takes me back to my childhood.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It gives you as the reader the perspective of a professional soccer player. And what they go through every day. Also as someone who plays soccer, it is very interesting to me. The only thing that I disliked about the book was the ending. I was hoping for a different ending that wasn't so plain.
If you are in too soccer this book will interest you very much. This book has a lot of events that happened in real life. This book did a really good job at telling Santiago's journey with Real Madrid
The book was about a professional soccer player and his name was santiago but everybody just called santi. The book start out santi playing for new castle (a professional soccer team) and they just finished their season and now it was the off season. Santi got a call from a team named Real Madrid asking him to play for them and its every kids dream to play for Real Madrid its like the most storied franchise in soccer. So santi has meeting with the owner of Real Madrid and decides to play for Real Madrid instead of New Castle. The first game he played for Real Madrid he was sensation scoring 2 goals in debut. Then Santi keeps on scoring goals all season long and getting bigger pay checks and then he was at a party with some friends and they were passing the ball around and Santi feel and hurts his foot. Well he went to the doctors and found out that he broke his foot. So santi is out for a while so he starts losing money beacause he aint playing and he is depressed because he cant play and his wife left him to go back to new castle. So he gets his cast off his foot and begins to go to rehab and then gets okay to go back and start practicing with the team again. Then real Madrid makes it to the final Contrary to speculation and despite the bad form of Harris, Santiago is brought onto the field – but not as a substitute for Harris. In the second half the two former Newcastle teammates get the chance to link up at the front to bring Madrid back to life. However the game gets worse as Arsenal go 2-0 up. Arsenal are denied an even bigger lead when Casillas superbly saves another penalty. Following this save, Real Madrid get to counter-attack with Santiago finally creating a moment of magic with Harris, who scores to make it 2-1. In the final few minutes of the game, with Madrid needing a goal to stay in the game, Santiago gets his chance and makes it 2-2. Finally, with only seconds left, David Beckham scores from a free kick to win the Champions League for Real Madrid. Real Madrid beckons for the Toon Army's favorite player: Santiago Muñez. While his fiancé, Roz, plans their wedding in Newcastle, he realizes every soccer player's dream and gets to wear the legendary white shirt alongside David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, and Raúl. Mirroring the paths of many soccer legends before him, Santiago basks in the glory, the acclaim, and the money in the second part of the trilogy, only for this illusion of happiness to be shattered and his life destroyed. As the fame-hungry, avaricious, and beautiful Jordana seduces our aspiring Galactico, his past is closing in for catastrophic results. Set against the backdrop of Real Madrid, Santiago discovers the ugly face of success and begins to lose his career, his friends and his wife Roz. Real Madrid reach the final of the UEFA Champions League and they are lined up against Arsenal. Santiago learns that Harris has to get a place in the starting line-up in the final in order to ensure an extension of his contract and a place in his national squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. He asks the coach to let Harris start instead of him in the final. Harris gets his chance, but almost squanders it by fouling T.J. Harper in the first half – which leads to a penalty and Real Madrid concede the first goal. The final turns into a nightmare for Real Madrid after this. The star players can hardly build any chances and Arsenal have a firm grip on the game in the first half, creating chances and threatening Madrid with attack after attack. Only a superb performance from goalkeeper Iker Casillas prevents Real Madrid from crashing out before half time. what i thought about the book was I really enjoyed reading this book becuase it showed a story about a man dreaming to be a star soccer player, and now finally living the dream by playing with real madrid. The book also tells the readers about the highs and lows when it comes to being a professional soccer player. The book was great and i would recommend it to anybody that is into soccer. I really hope that they come out with a Goal 3 because the movie and the book don’t have a ending to the story because its says to be continued… and I’ll think that it will be a really good movie and really good book too.
Review: The novel 'Goal II Living The Dream' written by Robert Rigby is a sporting and drama book that inspired me in many ways that have made me want this book to happen to me in reality. Goal II is the follow on from the first book in which a boy named 'Santiago Munez' is discovered as a young footballing/soccer talent and is asked to go to Newcastle, England to play for a big club there. In this book 'Santiago' moves on from Newcastle and moves to one of the biggest football/soccer clubs in the world, he moves to 'Real Madrid'. Throughout the book he is faced with many obstacles that he must overcome and he has many setbacks that seem like it would make him give up the dream all together. This book is only the second of the whole trilogy. There is 'Goal 1' and then it is followed on by this book which is 'Goal II: Living The Dream' and then the final book of the series is 'Goal III: Glory Days'.
This book is particularly aimed at young-adults or even adults but I feel as though it mostly would suit teenagers who need some inspiration in their life. I think the author made the storyline in this particular way to aim it and a younger audience who still have dreams. If we were to go deeper into who the book is mainly for then I would say it is for people who will or want knowledge of football/soccer.
There are many themes in the book 'Goal II'. But the ones that stood out to me the most were hard work and determination. These two themes stood out to me the most because it really goes well into what the book is about. In the novel 'Santiago' is faced with many obstacles and setbacks that he has to overcome. At times it looks at as though he is going to give it all up but he shows determination to overcome all of these problems and reach his dream/goal. The second theme (hard work) is shown all throughout the book. 'Santiago' shows the readers that if you put in a lot of effort and hard work there will be good outcomes of this.
My favourite character from the book is 'Santiago Munez'. I liked 'Santiago' because in the book he was just a poor kid from Mexico who wanted to make it to the big leagues, and from the first to the second book he took the readers on a journey of how he did this to make it into one of the biggest leagues in the world 'La Liga'. I see 'Santiago' as a inspiring character that you can look up to and want to be like him, because he was a nobody to begin with and then he was discovered and made a star.
I think the author wrote the book very well in a way that catches the audience attention and makes them want to keep reading. The book is written in a 3rd person point of view and also the author made sure that he did not use to much conversations in the book, which is a good thing because it keep the readers interested and not bored from all the talking.
Overall I found the book 'Goal II' to be interesting and inspiring. I highly recommend people to read it because once you start reading it you will not want to put down the book. I loved this book so much that I am going to read the next book in the series ('Goal III; Glory Days') .
I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting and flowed well. Despite the story being mainly on football, I learned that team work helps to achieve more. The epic comeback at the end was brilliantly planned. Santiago was finally reunited with his family and his half brother! This made the story much more realistic and took away from how in certain instances it comes across as commentary on a football match or other which is rather dull considering all the name dropping. The general idea of mind over matter comes across even better than it did in the first volume in my opinion.
I suppose that I am happy for him and how he managed to recover from so many traumatic experiences including his relationship going haywire, him injuring his leg, and firing the man who gave him the opportunity to become one of the most beloved footballers in the world to begin with. He scored the winning goal several times in this one and helped Real Madrid win against Arsenal in the final match of the tournament. Very well planned and I would recommend this book to anyone who feels lonely or sad.
07/07/2024. I finally found the time to read this one again! It's brilliant and I certainly think that 4 stars is a fair rating even 3 years later. This was enjoyable and one word I would use to describe it is human. There are so many elements which are very realistic and so many details derived from real life that are tied with this work of fiction. I love how Santiago is written in a way that reminded me of Miguel Diaz from Cobra Kai with regard to his progress but I'm not quite certain as to how truthful the title, living the dream, truly is. It goes to show how much celebrities go through emotionally and psychologically despite getting paid a lot of money and having anything materialistic they could ever desire. In this one Santiago is reunited with his mother and his brother and all the loose ends seem to work out in the end apart from Roz who deserves way more than an apology although I feel as though she should be able to understand Santiago's point of view too!
Although I enjoyed the first book and the way it was written, I couldn't help but notice that this one summarised everything that happened in that one in just a handful of sentences. There are also instances where chapters are nothing but commentary with regard to the match. If this book is great for anything when it comes to applying it to real life, it's that regardless of who you are, in life there will always be hurdles but that does not mean that it's the end of the world. Tough times don't last, tough people do I suppose. Very good mentality especially where football is concerned. I very much enjoyed the dynamic between Harris and Santiago. True sportsmanship indeed!

Have you ever played in front of a coach and no they want you on their team?Well if you have heres is a story you could realate to. The book Goal 2 is a realistic fiction book by Robert rigby. I think this a really good book.
The setting is in Real madrid Spain. Santiago wanted to be a starter on the field but his friend Gavin who also played his position he was a starter. So Gavin started to lose his touch then Santiago startarted scoring goals. Then he started on the field on one of his games. The conflict is a person vs himself because he kept on thinking about his mommand thats what messed him up in the games.
I was suprised when Enrique who was Santiago's half brother he was driving a Lamborghini. I was suprised because a Lamborghini is one of the fastest car in the world. Another reason is because the streets of madrid are really busy and crowded. I was angry about Santiago's first game because he got a red card. One reason I was mad was because it was his first game starting on the field. Also becasue it wasnt his fault that he did a late tackle. Also he was mad because everthing in his life was going bad.
I can relate to the character because when I get mad I dont focus on games. Also because I start to tackle. Another reason I can relate to him is because everthing in his life was bad and therenwas a time in my life were that happened to me. I wish that Santiago would of done a better job on his first game as a starter because if he would of done better he maybe would of gained more of his coaches trust. Also because if he wouldn't of been thinking about his mom he probaly wouldnt of got a red card. Another reason that I wish he should of done better is because it was his time to show his team coach and fans that they made the right choise on buying him.
I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars because I like soccer and he has to face many obstacles to complete his dream. I recommend this book to people who wanna meet their dreams and also who like soccer. I hope you could relate to this book and see see that people do reach their dreams.
“It began with a dream. Now the journey continues..” This quote describe the life of the young soccer player Santiago Munez. He was born in Los Angeles, California but his parents were from Mexico. He used to live with his grandmother and little brother before going to his first team that was Newcastle. In Goal 2, he joined the biggest club in the world that is Real Madrid. It's a really hard for Munez to move to a new country, with new people, and with a new style of life. It might sound good to be in the richest and biggest club in world but nothing is perfect not even for the best players. During his time in Spain, Madrid he saw new things new house, the most expensive cars, and new privileges. Nothing stays the same, his whole life change to the bad. Munez focus more in soccer and something that he had so much curiosity to know. In Madrid there's a person that he had never met before and that will change his life forever. Munez gets really focus in soccer and this person that he never seen, that he forgets about someone really special in his life that is his wife, Roz. Roz met him in England were Munez started his career as a professional soccer player. She has being with him on everything but Munez is interested in finding that person and Roz is getting tired of this. Would she leave or stay by his side and help him finding this person? And Would Munez find that person that he had never seen since he was little? I recommend this book to those who like sports and know about sports especially soccer. Young soccer star Santiago Munez will show you that everyone even the most famous people in the world have problems. I’m recommending this book because is not a boring book, it keeps you interested and also because it's a short book something that some kids like.
Young soccer player Santiago Munez has come a long way from the barrios of Los Angeles. He has become one of Newcastle United’s most outstanding players. Throughout his progress playing with Newcastle he has shown us what he is capable of. This second book being a sequel to the first catches your attention because you get to experience how a young kid from Mexico came to be one of the best players in the world. In this book Santiago gets sign to Real Madrid One of the best teams in Europe. He then shows what he is made of. He gets to play with some of the most outstanding players such as Iker Casillas (Goalkeeper), Zidane, Raul, Sergio Ramos and even David Beckham . In addition he starts a new life with his girlfriend Roz Harmison, a women who was a nurse in Newcastle. Before getting sign to Madrid Santiago Muñez and the person that discover him Glen Foy travel to Japan where he is going to have a meeting with the coaches of Madrid in order to see if Muñez has what is need to have to be in an amazing team such as Real Madrid. I recommend this book to people who are passionate about soccer because not every good player had a nice past some had to struggle and face obstacles to be where they at right now.
Goal is a book that has a live excitement in a book. It starts when the newest soccer sensation Santiogo Munez hits the peak of his career. Santiago currently played at a famous English team New castle. He had it all. A hot nurse girlfriend, a good tea, and loyal fans. Was he willing to give it all up just for an idea that may or may not work. But, he was crazy if he did not take the chance. His loyal fans knew it was the best for him. Santiago must now take on new challenges around Spain. Like, a girl trying to get his fiancé jealous, a family trying to get in contact with him, or pressure getting to him. But the real challenge is his success in his new team Real Madrid. Even tough it is the best team in the world it does not clarify that Santiago will fit right in. He needs to work hard to keep his place that was earned but as weeks go by his attitude changes completely. The Santiago that was playing for Real Madrid was no longer the Santiago that played back in Los Angeles with a local Latin team. Is the pressure too much?

I'm really happy that Japanese national team can participate in the FIFA World Cup! 2 If you became a rich, what do you want to do? A I want to a huge house and I want to take it easy at my home. I have watched the movie of this story. It was so exciting. Because there are so many famous soccer players in the movie. I like soccer very much.Actually, this story is about soccer. However, this is also about life of a man. It is kind of success story. So I think you will enjoy even if you are not interested in soccer.
I chose this book because it's about football. I love football. I watch football games and I also play with my friends. My life revolves around football.
Goal 2 is about a boy called Santiago Munez who is such a good footballer. He started off playing for the team Newcastle United and then was signed by Real Madrid. He gets really famous and starts to earn a lot of money. He buys a fancy car and a big house. He goes to live abroad and separates from his girlfriend so he can dedicate his life to football. In the end, he learns to find a good balance between football and other things in his life and he gets back together with his girlfriend.
I recommend this book to teenagers who have a goal in life and want to succeed and never give up until they fulfill their dreams.
The second book that I read was goal living the dream. This book is about Santiago the main character moving from the club that he got into the champions league, Newcastle united to his dream club real Madrid. At Madrid Santi deals with problems on and off of the field like being away from family and not being in the best of form on the field. The message from the book that I got is that even though you may get things you want there will always be people who doubt you and things that go wrong, and if you get through those bad times the good times will come through. I really enjoyed this book and would recommended it to people who love soccer I rate this book an 8/10.

Goal 2 is a a sequel of goal 1 with Santiago the main character leaving New Castle United to join Real Madrid with great players like David Beckham, Ronaldo, and joining his old friend Gavin. Santiago will have to make his way up to be a starter and maybe led this team to a championship. I personally think this book is like any other sport book with the main character trying to achieve a goal which is to win.

There is also a movie of this book but this book has to be one of my favorite books partly because i love soccer. It is about a very poor kid from Mexico who is an illegal immigrant of the U.S. and soccer is his life, he didn't go to college, and his Dad wants him to be a farmer so there is a lot of conflict between him and his father
I really enjoyed reading this book becuase it showed a story about a man dreaming to be a star soccer player, and now finally living the dream by playing with real madrid. The book also tells the readers about the highs and lows when it comes to being a professional soccer player. The book was great and i would recommend it to anybody that is into soccer.
This book As long as the first book of Santiago's journey to the top, is very inspiring to people who want to make it pro in any sport. This book shows how time and effort really makes a difference. It's a great story in how a poor Mexican boy takes his soccer career to the level he always dreamed of playing
I think this is a really good book because the characters really show their emotions they express if their sad, mad,or happy. If your the kind of person that likes sports, dramas or action books this is the perfect book for you. There is just so many events that occur that makes you just wanna keep on reading and never stop well that pretty much covers it.
Santiago Munez was in New castle united where he started his professional soccer career. santiago then was given an offer by Real Madrid. One of soccer's best teams known all over the world. Santiago had barely bought his own house in new castle and he was thinking
