A vivid portrait of a girl with a hyperactive mindRainy isn't thrilled about going to camp, away from her family and her beloved dog, Max. Without her family there to help, how will she stay focused when her thoughts start bouncing around her brain like ping-pong balls?Once Rainy finds friends who can handle her extreme energy, she decides that camp is great. She's even gotten good at keeping track of her things. But when bad news from home floods her head with too many thoughts, she forgets the rules and sets off on a dangerous journey. With her signature mix of humor and heart, Sis Deans explores the hectic world of a girl learning to live with ADHD.
Sis Deans was born and raised in Maine, USA. She has won several regional awards, including the 1995 Main Chapbook Award. Sis now lives on a small farm in Maine with her husband and three daughters.
Rainy isn't thrilled about going to camp Megunticook, away from her family and her beloved dog max she hates the idea of this not being able to have her family to rely on and even worse her ADHD to prevent her from staying on track and acting normal instead she has tons of energy and talks a lot which makes it hard to make friends . A terrible thing happened to Rainys dog max back at home which causes rainy to have grief so rainy does a terrible thing and gets herself in a dangerous situation not thinking about her or the camp. This story can be relatable too many different people it has many parts in which you can relate to like when rainy was having trouble making friends some people don't have as much as others which can lead to this also when rainy was grieving many people also have these type of emotions and feelings overall a great book that I would definitely read again 4 out of 5 stars
I LOVED this book narrated by a 12-year-old girl with ADHD who's not on any meds and has a wonderful but sometimes frustrated family. Rainy is at summer camp -- her first time away from her family -- so it's a real challenge for her. But she makes a couple friends and just seeing everything from her point of view is VERY touching. My favorite part was when she said that after she and her father rode a roller coaster, she explained to him that the roller coaster ride was "what it feels like inside my head all the time. One jerky, jolting, zooming throught turning into another, the twists, the speed, the turns out of control." Now I want to read this author's other books! I think I've read her "Racing the Past" and liked it too. Jeaneane-- I will bring this one to you because I know you'll like it too!!
This book was super easy to relate to, since I am an eleven year old girl with ADHD (although I just started medication). It's funny reading it because I would just stop and go "I've done that" or "That's what I would do". I also have an older sister who nags me all the time about being too crazy or unfocused, or even sometimes being super random. So, if your one of those people (that kind of stuff annoys you) I suggest not reading this book. But really, this was an inspiring book that I couldn't put down.
Interesting look (though I was truly annoyed) at a family's decision to not medicate their 11year old daughter who has ADHD
Rainy is a nice girl but can not make friends easily because her thoughts and actions are not understood or tolerated by others. I found the dialogue to be an issue - I just can't see a girl from Maine using the language the author gave Rainy. Shawna recommended this one for me.
I enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see into the head of a kid who has ADHD. No wonder I have a hard time getting my students to focus! :) Because of a few small situations in the book, I would save this one for fifth grade and up. :)
This book is a very interesting book but it did cause some confusion, there are a lot of emotions like sadness, happiness, worry, and others. After all, it was a very good book. It mainly explains her life and what she is doing for the summer.. There is a lot of action in this book she is trying to solve the main problem of the story while there is a whole entire camp being hateful towards her. I didn't think that I was going to like this book at first but then I read the first page and thought it sounded pretty interesting so I decided to check the book out I ended up liking it. I would highly recommend this book for someone else because it does explain even though you are going through problems you can always make it through those tough times. I feel as if this book presuaded me to care more for others even though they are hateful towards me. This was a really good book and most people would enjoy it so you should check it out.
