As a journalist and editor of the magazine Expo , Larsson was active in documenting and exposing Swedish extreme right and racist organisations. When he died at the age of 50, Larsson left three unpublished thrillers and unfinished manuscripts for more. The first three books ( The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo , The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest ) have since been printed as the Millenium series. These books are all bestsellers in Sweden and in several other countries, including the United States and Canada.
Witnessed a rape when he was 15, and was helpless to stop it. This event haunted him for the rest of his life. The girl being raped was named Lisbeth, which he later used as the name of the heroine on his Millenium trilogy. Sexual violence against women is also a recurring theme in his work.

Piętno nienawiści
Trylogia Stiega Larssona zyskała uznanie czytelników na całym świecie i doczekała się kilku ekranizacji. W "Mężczyznach, którzy nienawidzą kobiet" siłą napędową powieści są świetnie wykreowani bohaterowie i nawet jeśli można by określić ich mianem nietypowych, to przynajmniej nie da się powiedzieć, że są nudni i bezbarwni. Właściwie każdy z nich ma coś na sumieniu i trudno ocenić, jak daleko każdy z nich mógłby się posunąć.
Fabuła obraca się wokół trzech wątków – intrygi przewodniej (zaginięcia sprzed lat), afery wywołanej artykułem napisanym przez głównego bohatera – Mikaela Blomkvista oraz prywatnego życia Lisbeth Salander. Początkowo każdy z wątków rozwija się niezależnie, aż do momentu, w którym bohaterów połączy wspólny cel.
Pomimo objętości powieść Larssona czyta się zaskakująco szybko i faktycznie można by uznać ją za lekturę rozrywkową, gdyby nie bardzo dosadne opisy przemocy – zbyt dosadne. Gwałty, torturowanie, brutalne morderstwa może i są niezbędne dla fabuły, ale pławienie się w nich do przyjemnych nie należy, choć trzeba przyznać, że nienawiść do kobiet faktycznie ukazują.
Czy sięgnę po dalsze części serii Millenium? Pewnie tak, kiedy znowu najdzie mnie ochota na śledzenie wątków kryminalnych. Intryga w "Mężczyznach, którzy nienawidzą kobiet" jest naprawdę dobrze skonstruowana, co daje nadzieję na równie dobrą kontynuację. Nie ukrywam też, że chętnie dowiem się, jak potoczą się dalsze losy Michaela Blomkvista i Lisbeth Salander (zwłaszcza Salander).

Lisbeth is awesome but I don't understand the cover

I think it wasn't perfect after finishing, but it was so thrilling that I couldn't stop it while I was reading. A message after the chapter title was strange from the beginning, so that I had thought they were something to do with the story. Violent scenes are too disgusting and techie plots are skeptical, but the setting is grand and intriguing.
